In the middle of a four hour road trip, and in the mood for coffee, we saw the advertisement for Common Grounds Coffee from the highway and decided to make a stop. What we stumbled on is a comfortable, quaint coffee shop with a really large menu and an unmatched vibe. The location is handled with care, the decor makes you feel at home, and everything was clean, as were the restrooms. The person taking our order was very polite and patient with us as we mulled over the menu before deciding to go with what we know - two iced dirty chais & a frozen lemonade for our daughter. Everything was delicious & I made a comment that if this location were near our home, it'd easily be my go to place for coffee.

It has been awhile since we have been here but we were down this way so we came in for coffee. My son ordered a dirty chai latte, my daughter ordered an iced shaken expresso and I ordered a cold brew. This a nice place to come and get a coffee and relax. The staff was friendly and waited while we decided what we wanted to order.

My granddaughter and I were out for a girls day and stopped in this place. Common Grounds Coffee is a cozy counter-service café with plenty of seating and a charming collection of board games, making it an inviting spot for meeting up with friends or enjoying a casual afternoon. The atmosphere is somewhat relaxing, though it can be overshadowed by the surprising price tag. During my visit, I ordered a small cappuccino, a small lemonade, a cake pop, and an oatmeal cookie, and the total came out to nearly $18. While the quality of the items was decent, the prices were far from what I'd expected for a local coffee shop. At nearly Starbucks-level pricing, I found myself questioning the value for money, especially considering the smaller portion sizes. Given the absence of other café options in the area besides McDonald's, Common Grounds Coffee might be your only alternative--or you could save a bit and make your own treats at home. If you're willing to pay a premium for the atmosphere, it could be worth a visit. Otherwise, you might find the cost a bit hard to justify.

Coffee, coffee, coffee... yes the Gilmore references are plentiful in this incredibly cool relaxing coffee haven! Being a sinensophile, I chose an Earl Grey, but here... coffee rules!! I love the ambiance of this cozy spot... warm fall colors of rust, browns and greens dominate the décor with touches of leather, wood and brick to add to the welcoming vibe. I desperately want to try the Lorelai & Rory pumpkin spice and vanilla coffee, which I may have to grab on my way out! For breakfast I chose the egg, bacon and cheese croissant which came out warm and fluffy! The front counter gals were super sweet and helpful! I spent quite a bit of time chilling on the couch, reading, writing, and savoring every inch of this inviting coffee shop! Love it!

A nice coffee shop my family and I discovered while taking a road trip down to Williamsburg. It's fairly close to the 95, so it's a nice pit stop for those wanting a place to hang around for a short bit. There is plenty of parking and outdoor spacing to sit or let kids run around for a little bit. There is an extensive menu for both coffee and food. The coffee and food were both decent. We shared a chicken panini and a breakfast sandwich. Prices were comparable to northern VA. Seating is quite extensive and there are games for people to play with. It was a nice play to drop by and would be happy to visit again if we had the chance.

Found this place driving back from Virginia. Cute place. Local artist have art for sell on the walls. Coffee was good and gluten free scones. Great customer service as well. The only thing is the prices were on the higher side. The frappe was good a little sweet The gluten free chocolate muffin was good. The pumpkin muffin was very strong tasting. Sausage croissant was very good.

Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. We'll be back soon to see Lashone!

Theres plenty of parking and they have a small area for outside seating. As you walked in, there's plenty of seating, they have an open kitchen concept, a side room for special events or meetings (25 people capacity) but it's their mission that caught my interest as cashier/ hostess Lexi explains to me. This company spreads and provides charity catering throughout the community with multiple outlets. Lexi was very patient as she explains how the menu works. I ordered 3 items: 1) Loaded baked potato 2) Fried fish 3) Chicken and waffles. I just wanted to taste the baked potato without any protein on top. I don't know what it was that had an off taste, maybe the butter. The potato itself was soft topped with cheese, green onions and a little bland. The chicken and waffle were tasty. The fried chicken wasn't as crispy as I would like it but it was well seasoned and the waffle was soft. There are so many options for your sides. So for the fried fish, the appearance looks delicious but it was very thin and dry. Even with the tartar sauce it was still dry. I was really looking forward to it. The sides I selected were fries and hope cakes (which are sweet corn bread). Their beverages are on point, I got their lemonade and sweet tea. Lexi was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant is only opened on Fridays-Sundays for regular business but since they do multiple catering events, they are open 7 days a week. They also offer Sunday brunch between the hours of 9a-3p which the entire dining room is open with mocktail and coffee station. There isn't a buffet during the brunch but a la carte off the menu. I would make a return visit to try their brunch menu in the near future.

Seated quickly and server was there in under one minute and gave us a bottomless pot of coffee and brought Splenda (which is not on table.). My wife ordered avocado tacos and said they were excellent. Her grits were excellent! My food however was not great. Ordered beef hash and eggs. I really wanted corned beef hash but not on menu. Beef chunks, what few there were, were actually cold as in right out of refrigerator cold while all the other ingredients were just right so it's like they tossed them in at last minute with no time to warm up! Overall it was very heavily seasoned and after a few bites I lost my appetite. Way too salty too. Again the grits I ordered on side were excellent. I took 3/4 of my meal home to try to eat later and perhaps add some corned beef hash to but haven't had the desire to finish yet after two days so likely I won't eat it. Something about the seasoning and overly salted that didn't sit well with me. Overall this is a very pleasant upscale restaurant but there are zero bargains on menu ($54 with tip for 2 people for breakfast = very high IMHO.) Music was a bit loud as we were almost directly under and between two speakers. Could just be me but I can't see any need for high volume music in such a nice restaurant. Perhaps when it's busy it helps with the overall din? Checkout was super easy with QR code but I dislike the 18% low end suggested gratuity. Let me decide. I know there is a customized tip capability but 15 vs 20 should suffice. Less for poor service which I doubt you will get at First Watch. However I cannot ever recall in my 76 years tipping any server more than 20%. Overall the food selection is fairly non-traditional and limited. 1 pancake is $9. Seriously WHO orders just one pancake? If one goes to Cracker Barrel you can get 3 pancakes, a meat and two eggs for a buck more. And delicious. This place is definitely more upscale but honestly it's about the food, right? I prefer good tasting food vs upscale so likely we won't return (but man those yellow grits with a big scoop of butter on top were delicious - better than Cracker Barrel for sure!). If I should ever return I'm ordering two sides of grits (or a big bowl) and that's it! Out for under $8 + coffee. Not sure how this chain will survive but if I were the operations manager I'd find a few menu items to sprinkle in that appeal to us tightwads, with hope some will order the higher priced offerings. A very basic pancakes, eggs and meat for ~$10 would get my attention. Almost all their menu items were in the $14-16 range which is like dining in the big city. Too much for Fredericksburg I'm afraid. It's not that we can't afford First Watch, it's that First Watch's (2 of them) are out of their element here. I wish 'em luck but fear, like the past tenants in that building, they won't make it unless they can find a menu that packs people in 7 days a week. There were probably only 4 tables occupied during our Tuesday at 11am visit. My father owned/managed several restaurants growing up and he always said you can put a restaurant in a barn in a cornfield 20 miles from no where but if the food is excellent and price is fair the public will beat a path to your door every day! He was right.
