In the middle of a four hour road trip, and in the mood for coffee, we saw the advertisement for Common Grounds Coffee from the highway and decided to make a stop. What we stumbled on is a comfortable, quaint coffee shop with a really large menu and an unmatched vibe. The location is handled with care, the decor makes you feel at home, and everything was clean, as were the restrooms. The person taking our order was very polite and patient with us as we mulled over the menu before deciding to go with what we know - two iced dirty chais & a frozen lemonade for our daughter. Quite possibly is my favorite coffee shop ever. I live closer up north, so coming here was a bit of a drive...but might I say it's completely worth it--and a trip to my favorite gas station wawa. The space feels so inviting and the lovely baristas were especially sweet thank you . They have a good variety of syrup flavors and good food options with a bakery case--perhaps I wasn't loooking too hard but I didn't see any savry. How fast one can fall. Came in for a repeat performance of my last trip here- and wow. The drip tasted old and not quite hot and our pastries were a bit dry. For the price - pretty underwhelming. No smiles or personality from the employee. This is exactly why people make the place. I would much prefer what the owner called a diamond in the rough from the last visit ( is that a compliment ?) than the stale lifeless atmosphere, service and offerings of today. I love the ambiance of this cozy spot... warm fall colors of rust, browns and greens dominate the décor with touches of leather, wood and brick to add to the welcoming vibe. I desperately want to try the Lorelai & Rory pumpkin spice and vanilla coffee, which I may have to grab on my way out! A nice coffee shop my family and I discovered while taking a road trip down to Williamsburg. It's fairly close to the 95, so it's a nice pit stop for those wanting a place to hang around for a short bit. There is plenty of parking and outdoor spacing to sit or let kids run around for a little bit. There is an extensive menu for both coffee and food. The coffee and food were both decent. We shared a chicken panini and a breakfast sandwich. Prices were comparable to northern VA. Seating is quite extensive and there are games for people to play with. It was a nice play to drop by and would be happy to visit again if we had the chance. read more

My friends got sandwiches and iced coffees which all looked lovely and they told me were delicious. The decor is delightful, staff is friendly and engaging, the bathrooms are gender neutral and sparkly clean. My friends and I lingered many hours past the time we made our purchases and continued to feel welcome and at home in this comfortable, homey coffee shop. Stopped by this quaint and inviting coffee shop on the way from MD to SC. Never knew it existed until I saw it from the highway on one of the road signs! Since I'm a sucker for local-type coffee shops (rather than larger chains), I HAD to stop. It's not at all far off the highway, so an easy and quick stop. The customer service was wonderful: the young lady behind the counter was kindly helpful and lovely! I ordered a cappuccino for myself and a seasonal cinnamon apple cider cream coffee (I can't remember the exact name) for my daughter. Both of these drinks were delightful!
