Over the last few years, the selection of product has dwindled and prices have skyrocketed. There has been a change within the company's values - they are no longer an owner-driven co-op, but operate more like a corporate grocery store - which would be fine if they were transparent about it. It astounds me that more people are not aware of the Common Market not sticking to their core values and their ultimate shift toward a bigger, more "conventional" organic food market. Just another Whole Foods, except employees are treated extremely poorly. Additionally, gone are the days that you recognize faces at the Common Market - every time I shop, there is someone new behind the deli counter, in the produce department, behind the service desk, at the registers. Many long-standing, "tenured" employees (for lack of a better term) have left in the last two years. I wonder why no one else seems to notice. read more

Great place to buy local, healthy food. They are customer owned, and it shows. Much better than the corporate alternatives. They have a lot of local foods, and a delicious hot food bar! They change up the menu often. I also love their soups. A bit on the pricey side for certain things, but that's to be expected. I don't mind paying more for quality products. This used to be my favorite grocery store in the Frederick area, but they recently renovated the hot bar, and suddenly there are minimal if any vegan/vegetarian options. Their grocery selection is still pretty good, but I'm disappointed to lose one of my favorite lunch places. I think it's important for a company that prides itself in being sustainable to stand by their claims, and as a co-op shareholder, I don't feel especially comfortable with my money supporting animal agriculture. Alas, Roots Market is almost an hour away, so Common Market makes for a mostly acceptable stand-in. read more

I rarely shop at the shop but I always get their chicken breast sandwich and make sure don't leave the shop without trying their pecan bar!

Customer service reps were especially friendly & had no problem taring my reusable container for use in the bulk foods section. Wide variety of bulk items available including Castile soap & local honey. read more

I don't come too often becuase it's on the other side of town for me, but I still love it and try to come in as much as possible. I've had a sandwich and tea here, sourdough bread from their bakery, and great bulk items and I've been impressed with all of them. It smells great--even as you walk in! They have a great selection of tea as well. Overall, a bit expensive but worth it for a lot of items, especially their fresh breads. Can't wait to try the challah! read more

I am so glad that I found this place. I go to the sport and health next door and decided to try this place out. The selection is great and they have a variety of good vegetarian and vegan options. Their smoothie bar is also great to check out on a hot day in the summer. The customer service is also great and it's definitely my favorite place to shop for groceries. read more

I love Common Market. It really is a gem of a co-op. The people here are incredibly helpful and kind, the selection of natural/organic/specialty foods are excellent, the bulk bins are extensive, the olive bar is amazing -- it's a really great place. The fish counter is outstanding when it comes to quality and cleanliness, and the selection is limited to ethically sourced fish, which is fantastic. Common Market isn't our go-to for everyday things. It's where we come for stuff that is harder to find, or when we need specialty, quality things. The prepared food is awesome and they label the hell out of allergens, which is great. They have some of the cheapest prices on gluten-free bread in town, too, which is a feat in and of itself. In short, give it a try. It's a quirky, hippie grocery store and it's fantastic. read more

They have a lot to offer, but their prices tend to be quite outrageous... unless you "join" their organization. They do have a nice selection of holistic health stuff and essential oils though. read more

stopped in here during a day trip after hearing great things about it from a friend. i'm in love and only wish that this was close to my house! instead of the aisle or two of natural/organic products that are in most grocery stores, they have an entire supermarket. there was a great selection of organic product, bulk foods, prepared foods, teas, meats (all types and seafood), skin care products, and bread. i was pleasantly suprised that prices were pretty good on the whole. i had a question about a type of tea and the customer service that i received was truly excellent. frederick is lucky to have this store! read more

However, nothing seems to be unusually expensive, and you get what you pay for. My only gripe is I can never find cottage cheese anywhere here, and I eat that stuff like it's going out of style. I love common market. It is a staple for a post workout shake and meal. (The gym is next door). They have an awesome selection of fresh produce and healthy food choices. I especially enjoy their ready made section. The salads etc are sooo good. They also have a hot bar if that's what you're in the mood for. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have an incredibly delicious deli that make to order sandwiches, smoothies, juices and also have a very good food hot bar and 4 soups and lots of premade items such as kale salad, tuna salad, beet/carrot salad, along with a large assortment of premade sandwiches too. Their rotisserie chicken at Common Market is all natural and antibiotic free and it is so good. The rotisserie chickens at other grocery stores have been marinated in a long list of ingredients that contain MSG and too much sodium. I usually have a headache the following day. The Common Market chicken is made with a short list of natural ingredients. YAY! The bad - I tried getting a gallon of their expensive milk in a plastic container and the milk tasted like plastic - we had to throw it away. read more

I Love this place! Their produce is completey organic, fresh and just wonderful! Their dried spice section includes multiple hard to find herbs and powders. Their juice & smoothie bar is great! I have pretty much stopped eating from the salad/hot food bar. Nothing is labeled organic, and every time I have asked if food is organic, the answer is way too vague. They say they try to use organic when they can. But nothing is labeled and no one seems to make any effort to point out a few items that are organic. This is a HEALTH food store. Glyphosate has been labeled a probably carcinogen by the World Health Organization. Why is it to much to ask for clearly marked organic food at a health food salad bar? read more

Not that many choices for GMO free, antibiotic free, organic, hormone free, locally sourced (catch my drift?), etc, groceries. In the Frederick area, you basically have Common Market and Wegmans. If you dont feel like spending 1 hour checking out 50 isles of items in Wegmans, heres your place to go. They also have a cafe; and unlike Wegmans, Common Markets food is made on the spot; not made by someone else and delivered to the grocery store and made to look like its fresh. And unlike Wegmans, rather than just selling organic vegetables, they can also serve it to you in their Juice Bar; this is not the case in Wegmans. They also have rather nutricious and whole some paninis (portabello and other vegetarian paninis as well as glutein free options). read more
