The bookstore is intimate and inviting, with music to set the mood for casual browsing. I felt drawn in from the outside and compelled to stay once inside. The books are displayed in a way to spark intrigue, and I especially liked the sitting area, tempted to settle in and read what I had just purchased (although selecting only a few was no easy task). Commonplace is a community treasure. It's more than bookstore, it's a community gathering space. Hence the tag line "a common love for books and people." I think of it as the best place to come across a title that I didn't know I wanted to read next. They have curated some of the most popular tiles of the moment, but by & large they stock books that feed my mind, body & soul and challenge us to live at our fullest potential. Come hangout anytime. It's a great spot to pop in on a date and explore titles together, or hangout here in between meetings in Midtown. It's also a hit with out-of-town guests. They offer a great kids book selection. Every Saturday morning at 10:30 they have a story time for kids who they lovingly refer to as "Littles," which I just adore. They have a fantastic cook book selection. Their titles are organized by subject titles like "naturalist," "achiever," "intentionalist," "intellectual," "historian," "activist," etcetera. If you are looking for a book they don't have, most of the time they can order and get it for you pretty quickly- a lot of times in just a day or later that week. They often have book sales with books on a cart sitting outside for up to 30% off. Good deals can be found on that cart, let me tell ya. The bookstore is connected to the Kitchen at Commonplace which serves breakfast & lunch and they open most days of the week at 8am. Final thought: Their signature candle, Unhurried Wonder, is one of my favorite candles. I was sooooooo happy to come here. Obviously, coffee is a must. So I was excited to have an expertly made americano. The staff was friendly and they got me my order pretty quick. The space is well appointed and comfortable. Then... I saw the pancake. I would go back and eat ten if I could. It was delicious. Rich and buttery, this thing was perfect. Highly recommend. I have had really good experiences here! The bookstore part of the store is really peaceful and there's a variety of books available. The staff (and dog!) are very friendly. I love this bookstore. It's so cozy and they have a wonderful selection of books to choose from! I truly feel like Commonplace is an exclusive club. I've never 100% felt like I belong and service is truly hit or miss but what they share on social media, their mission, and dedication to the love and support of authors and book stores must be shared and spoken about. Maybe that's why I felt like I don't 100% belong. I feel like I'm just now on a cusp of wanting to support local bookstores and not feeling guilty about buying it off Amazon. I feel like I can be a part of a culture and support system that can be so so huge. Service used to be amazing- like one-of-a-kind. Booksellers truly wanting to know what you're shopping for, curious, wanting to learn about who you were. Now it's more laid-back and I hardly get spoken to unless the owner is in the shop. I mean maybe that's the vibe now, that's fine, just not what I was used to. The space is cute- I've used it as a back drop for some photos during non-peak times, as to respect those shopping, and I've never had a problem. The family dinner nights are so interesting, and the cafe is super cute. So glad it was added on. The color scheme, book placement and decor is extremely throughout so when you purchase something you're taking home a piece of the store- which I love. Overall, love Commonplace. Commonplace Books may be my favorite place to be in Oklahoma City. When Commonplace first opened, I was very frustrated, because it didn't fit my work schedule, so I could never go. Thankfully my schedule changed and I can shop at least once a month. Any more would be detrimental to my budget. First I love the ambiance, the bright open windows, the welcoming scent, the decor and the music is all part of my style. They have comfortable seating and all of the employees encourage to make yourself home, as you enjoy your selections. They are so incredibly welcoming as they offer you freshly brewed coffee and/or water as you enjoy their space. The last time I went, I had some time until my next engagement and it was pour rain. Personally, I was having a tough week. The staff was so incredibly kind to everyone who entered the door, which warms my heart, as you find this rare in other book stores around town. As I walked around, I did not know what it was I sought for my next reading adventure. I found two that spoke to me at the moment, same as the few times prior. I always find something new that speaks to me at the moment. Commonplace does a wonderful curating their selection of books. I cannot wait for them to open their cafe portion. Super friendly people, relaxed atmosphere combined with chill music and an amazing assortment of books. That sentence was long on purpose. This is a real bookstore, without fluffy nonsense books. It is for people who like to read things that a little more complex. We walked in and were met by a big white dog. Well, he didn't really come meet us, so much as act as a rug. He was very friendly when I pushed myself on him and pet him. But, he was far more interested in the cool concrete floors. I was offered a glass of wine, which I accepted. I had passed by several times and I thought this place might be a little too... scholarly? hip? intimidating? I'm not sure, but as soon as I walked in, the atmosphere was so welcoming that all I could think about was hanging out all afternoon. Maybe next time I shouldn't judge a book by its... you know what never mind that one. The music was pleasant and not too stuffy, the furniture was nice, but not so nice that you're afraid to sit in it. One of the owners was there and he did a great job of engaging me when I came in but also let me explore and ask questions at my leisure. The whole experience was warm and inviting, and I haven't even mentioned the books yet! First stop and maybe the most impressive part for me was the children's area: big, breathtaking, imaginative books of all kinds. Around the corner was a quaint little secluded area lined with bookshelves and beautiful mural with a hearty table and chairs at its center. There is also a cozy little parlor area with a gorgeous emerald sofa and strappy leather chairs that I thought looked weird but ended up being extremely comfortable. I could have sat there all day, reading while petting the enormous shop dog. The organization is a little different too: the sections are organized by types of people instead of types of books. It was something I hadn't experienced before and it made for an inspiring bookstore visit. Good job! read more

I have been hitting this cute little bookstore in Midtown almost every week/every 2 weeks or so. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful when you need assistance in finding what you want. The children's section has some of the most interesting and eye-catching books I have ever seen in my life. Even though I don't have kids, it makes me want to buy some just so I can keep for my future kids! I highly recommend coming here and browsing this store even if you don't know specifically what you want. I guarantee that you will find something that you will want to pick up. Dear Bibliophiles, Welcome to your new favorite local bookstore. Commonplace is temporarily located in a small shop near the Midtown roundabout, until construction is completed on their permanent space. In the meantime, expect a small, beautiful brick and mortar sparsely populated by gorgeous books. In the handful of times I've visited, I've had to carefully narrow down my selection to only a couple of purchases, since the books carried are overwhelmingly desirable- classics and moderns and pretties and smarties. This last visit, I reluctantly returned my own choices to the shelves in favor of books my kids had in hand. I want my children to value supporting local bookstores, and this seemed the right way to show them. Unimpressed. This is a bookstore with barely concealed religious leanings/bias. They have tables filled with religious books with a tiny fiction section (ironically selling Stephen King among the Christian books, which I found funny). One of the employees explained that if I saw more religious books it's because the owners are religious. Suddenly, it all made sense. This person was not only dismissive, rude, and unprofessional, but obnoxious in their approach to any kind of customer service. Not a good experience. Not recommended. Go to Full Circle Bookstore instead. Bigger selection, far nicer people. read more

I love this new bookstore! I could seriously hang out here all day every day. It has such a cool atmosphere and Sara Kate Studios did an amazing job of decorating this place. The owner is so friendly and greeted me when I walked in. The store dog is so cute and is very relaxed. The store has lots of unique book options and is set up nicely. They are always getting new shipments of books. They have their own blend of candles going in the store and they make the whole place smell incredible. Goodness gracious me. Do you want to feel like you've strolled into someone's carefully curated home? This, this is your place. The owner is an absolutely lovely human, who will happily share his thoughts on books you should read (if you're interested...he lets you do your thing, whatever that may be...as long as it is mostly legal), and answer all of the questions about the store. Boz is the "office" dog. He's a gentle giant, who just loves a good scratch behind the ears. He will play coy at first, but truly, he's an attention hoarder. How does this place only have 4 reviews?? I know it just opened, but shoot. Commonplace is a book lovers dream. They have an incredibly unique and beautiful selection of books. Even their selection of classics contains beautifully bound books in great covers that will look beautiful on display in your home. Additionally, the store is full of art from local artists that makes your experience even more pleasing. The shop owners were super friendly and kind. Their young daughter was helping out, as well, and doing a great job. She has also started her own all-ages book club, so check it out! To round it all off, they have a shop dog named Boz that is as sweet as can be. This is the type of family-run local business we need to rally around and support (and I just met them yesterday in the store). Check them out and BUY some books! You will not be let down. Last time I was there they were just playing crossword puzzles...such a bookstore thing to do! I love being able to shop local, especially for books, so having this place just a mile or so from my apartment is divine. They have a great selection that is clearly carefully curated. It's very obvious that the owner cares deeply about his shop and providing the OKC area with quality books. The little restaurant is precious. They have great cookies! Commonplace Books is the absolute cutest. This place is so near and dear to my heart that my husband knows the best surprise he can bring home is something he's found laid out in this store. The owner and employees are so welcoming, you don't feel pressure to know exactly what you're looking for, and it has a cozy enough feel that sitting down on the delightful emerald couch doesn't seem out of the question. The Kitchen I had been anticipating the opening of the Kitchen at Commonplace ever since it was announced, and when I visited a few weeks ago, it exceeded my expectations! Pros: From the dishes to the cups to the beautiful silverware and all the way down to the napkins, I didn't receive a single item that wasn't reusable. The next step would be to know their sourcing practices, how they avoid waste during cooking, and whether they participate in a compost program. If I find more info, I'll update. Cons: there aren't any. Other notes: -aesthetically pleasing: my pictures don't do it justice as I was too busy enjoying the experience to make sure I got good shots, but the place is beautiful. It's so relaxing to feel like you are inside a perfect Instagram feed! -the community experience: instead of the typical separate tables and lengthy menu, dining at the Kitchen feels like you've been invited to an elegant party. You can sit at the kitchen table or the bar and before dinner is served at 7, the owner reads a short selection from a book. -the price: I was a little nervous about cost (no menu = no clear pricing) but there's no way I could go to any other restaurant and get an appetizer, main dish, dessert and coffee for under $20/person. In a city of no-places this bookstore is a place. Every time I come in I spend ~30 minutes just looking--the books are so well curated I always find something new and fascinating (I come in to wander--though on the rare occasion I'm looking for a specific book they usually have it). The children's books are especially beautiful--routinely rotating ones I haven't seen with beautiful illustrations so that I always end up with one or two for my two year old. What a fantastic concept for a bookstore! This locally owned store isn't your run-of-the-mill bookstore arranged by genre and author. Commonplace Books is specially curated by its owners to create relatable sections from Innovator to Host to Activist to Poet. It redefined the common bookstore experience and creates an atmosphere of fun exploration and discovery for any book-lover. I tend to go into bookstores to browse and allow myself to stumble upon inspiration, rather than arriving with a mission to find a specific title. Whatever your style, Commonplace can accommodate you. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and can lend you a helping hand, whether you're looking for that specific title or have certain interests or suggestions for reading materials. I really loved my first experience. They greeted me and briefed me on the layout of the store, then allowed me the freedom to browse without hovering, while still remaining available for assistance. This bookstore is so much fun and if you're a book lover, I know you'll enjoy the experience of exploring this store, too. Also, for the book club lover, I'm told there will be regular book club meetings at the store, so keep an eye out for those details! read more

I am SO glad that Midtown is getting its own independent bookstore - we sure have been needing one of these downtown. They are only in their pop-up location right now until their permanent one opens up just a block away. All of the titles here are PERFECT, and it's super cozy and relaxing - a bookworm's dream!
