Good selection of books, but would *not* recommend. Book I ordered was not delivered and returned to sender, USPS mistake. (I have written admission of this from USPS.) Archives would not try to resend the book, and tried to charge me a penalty. First they claimed my address was incorrect (i showed them on the USPS site where my address is verified), then they claimed that they could not deliver without a 9 digit zipcode (not true), then they claimed they couldn't resend the book without a totally different address. This was all via email - and they refused to take my call or call me back to discuss. I even offered to come pick up the book, but they would not do that without me paying a penalty. I confirmed with the USPS that Archives could have resent the book to me for no additional charge and gotten a refund of the shipping penalty, but Archives refused to do so. Their customer service is clearly written by a bot, and they have no interest in actually helping customers. read more

My husband and I journeyed to this book store because they were giving away 5 free books per person. The store was very unorganized but the isles with books piled haphazardly were included in the free book deal and the $10/paper bag deal. $10 for a huge bag of books is an excellent deal and definitely worth rummaging. You may even find something you might enjoy but wouldn't normally look for specifically. I plan on bringing my mom and getting the $10 bag deal another day once I make it through these great free books I got! read more

A book shop well worthy of your attention. Hello, my fellow Yelpers. I'm a Los Angeles born native and have grown up on every kind of bookstore you can think of, including the once-famous one out in 29 Palms (now defunct). What makes Archives Books unique is the massive collection of books. One could make a joke that the books are breeding at Archive Books. There isn't much of an organizational setup, outside of the isles and isles of books, with a rough category to what's on each aisle, but I think that's part of the charm! We came by this bookshop, from their Facebook page, where you can obtain five (5) free books. There's also buy one, and get two free!! Frankly, it's an actual scavenger hunt for papers here. If you are a lover of first editions, they have them, ten fold at their warehouse (not sure if that's open to the public or not!!). Best of all, there is the older gentleman behind the counter, glasses didn't catch his name, but he's the shop owner, been in the business for 45 years and knows a thing or two about books. I have an eclectic choice in books; some would call a "Champagne Taste" if you will. What I seek is a touch obscure in nature when visiting a bookshop, but if you're just a lover of books, this is for you! This is a great place to buy for your home library. Don't have a home library? Archive Books is a great way to kick your "my first library" off with a bang! Also, all the prices are negotiable, nothing is firm, so if there's a choice selection of books that you want, this is the place and the right time to get some fantastic deals! Archive Books are very much on the level. Books that could fill a square, and then some! Best of all, some of the kindest folks that work there! I may have to chalk it up to that Oklahoma charm. I am an online customer and cannot speak highly enough of their superb service! As it happened, the book I purchased had a printing defect - a page of smeared unreadable text deep inside the book. Only a close reader would have noticed it, so completely understandable why Archive Books wouldn't have noticed it. When I brought it to their attention, they immediately offered a prompt and cheerful refund, and told me not to bother returning the book (I have marked the bad page and donated it to our local library in hopes they might be able to give it away). In summary, they were super-conscientious and could not have been nicer about clearing up the problem! read more

This is the type of bookstore I could spend all day in. It's like stumbling into someone's old stash of books, on shelves made of cinderblocks and strips of unfinished wood. It feels like a travel through the history of the printing press. The staff was friendly and helpful, locating the book I was looking for with ease. That took all of five minutes- I spent the rest of the time I was there browsing. I was so excited to see all these super old books- they had an entire section full of "vintage books" that had everything from children's books printed in the sixties to textbooks so old they were held together by rubber bands. Nothing glamorous, but a joy for any book lover, especially old books. My favorite part of the visit is when I overheard a little boy ask for The Magic Tree House books and announce that they were "my favorite quality reading". read more

THE BEST . . . I could (and better not!) get lost for hours in a store loaded with such a vast array and deep quality of THOSE kinds of books. Classics! Rare books! In fact, I find I have to remind myself (gently) that I'm there now to make available to others to cherish, as much as possible of the (current) ~3500 pounds of Great Books (a long-standing habit from the family in which I grew up, whose 3K pounds of them successive universities paid to move about the U.S. as we did while my late parents' respective professorships, and our family, progressed and blossomed). I am deeply grateful to Wayne (and his crew) for ensuring that people all over the *world* will now get to enjoy the pleasure of hardbound Great Literature in various disciplines . . . and languages. Very nice store clerks. The book prices are not rock bottom, like, a $10 list price paperback sells for $5 or $6 dollars, but the store owner will give you a coupon, like, $25 credit if you buy $25 of books, also, if you bring many of the books back, they give you store credit for at least half of it. Incredible deals to keep you going back. Some parts of the store are incredibly disorganized, and other parts are very well maintained. read more

This truly is a magnificent store! I only made it through the first two aisles in the three hours that I was there. And the three boxes I walked out with certainly said that I found enough for the day! I see this place as an excellent business to sell your used books to, or donate unwanted books to, also as an excellent resource in the community for finding rare and hard to find books. Because I was in the first aisle digging through the literal piles of books, I was blessed to hear the way the owner handles his business. Used to be a great place to trade books. They still have a great selection but they do most of their business online. As far as selling books they will give you a horrible lowball offer compared to bookstore down the street. If you bring in books and accept an in store credit you get a slightly better horrible deal but the credit expires in one year. read more

I had enjoyed going to this bookstore for several years. It is a great place to wander among the stacks of unusual books. However, when my husband became disabled with dementia and we were forced to downsize, I had to get rid of a large portion of my carefully cultivated library. Because I knew that this establishment bought used books, and because I had seen the proprietor offer someone $10 for a few books in the bottom of a box when I was there on one occasion, I took my books there to sell. After telling Wayne the circumstances under which I was parting with my beloved books, some of which were vintage or unbroken sets, we hauled in numerous large boxes of books. He spent some time going through them, then offered me $30. Because I was in a very stressful time in my life and did not wish to deal with re-loading the books into my car and dealing with them again when I got home, I took it. I have deeply regretted it ever since, and have lost all respect for a man who would take advantage of someone in a bad situation. read more

I took some books to this store to sell. The guy behind the counter picked out 5 one of which was worth $25 and offered $3 for them

This store either does NOT have their inventory updated or makes it a practice to say books are out of stock and order them at triple the price. The owner, Wayne told me the two books I was looking for, were NOT in stock but could be ordered. I couldn't buy the first one myself for less than 29.95 but he could get it for me for 14.95. The second book was 7.95 - he could get it for me for 4.95. When I came back to pick up the book - Wayne wasn't there but his very nice and smarter than his boss employee, said there were 5 copies of the 4.95 book on the shelf and one was marked 3.95 ! Then the kicker - when I got home - the receipt was left in the 14.95 book showing Wayne Stephens/Archives Books paid $6.77 for the book ! I know he needs to make a profit but come on - to actually lie to the customer - it is always better to tell the truth in the long run - because it will usually come back to get you. I won't be back to this store & I'm telling my friends !! read more
