Located in Alvarado's Carver Park, this red painted box is under the picnic pavilion and is easily…read moreaccessible. Hard to miss as it is painted a farm barn red with yellow trim and stands on a yellow post. It looks like there might once have been a plexiglass window but that's gone. The door is secured by a latch. As it's is here in the picnic area, it should be mostly okay from the elements. Three shelves inside, divided into Adult, Teen and Kids. Unfortunately, it's just a big jumble today. But free books are free books and that makes it A-OK. There is parking in the park and there are picnic tables nearby if you'd like to sit and read. Very cool, folks! Very cool. Inside, two stuffed shelves with mostly hardcovers and thrillers on the top and children's and young adult on the bottle. Lots of good stuff here and I was happy to add a couple of my own paperbacks to the collection as I'm trying to reduce my own home library just a litttle. This big blue box is on a residential street and it's hard to miss. Double doors with transparent…read morepanels show a fully stocked library with a lot of books. Inside, two wide shelves that are also deep enough for many of the books to be double deep. Mostly paperbacks because those fit best. I was able to add my three from my own library that I'm working to cut back and I didn't take anything with me today. This is charter 111107 and has the title "Glenn's Little Free Library." There is a small plaque on the box that reads, "Silver award project. Lily Dorris. Troop 2330. December 2020. Nicholas P. Sims Little Library." It also has the Girl Scouts logo. Inside the box, two shelves of books that now have four of my thrillers from my own library as I'm reducing my own library at home. None of the other books were interesting to me. This adorable Little Free Library stands in front of the Layland Museum of History. It's a brown…read morebox with white trim that makes it look like an actual library. Very cute. A single door secured by a magnetic catch, there is only one shelf inside and it's quite full. Mostly hardcovers today and nothing that caught my fancy. I did add two of the paperbacks from my home as I'm working towards reducing my library there. This is charter number 8733 (a low number!) and the steward is Christy Morton. The online caption reads, "With a grant from Andrew Carnegie, local residents worked to get a library built in Cleburne. The 1905 historic building housed the public library until 1978 when the city expanded and built a new library on West Henderson Street. The Layland Museum, which was located upstairs, was expanded to the lower floor and other collections began to be added. The Little Free Library pays tribute to the history of the Carnegie building and it's original purpose. Mollie Mims, local writer and Layland Mu [and then it's cut off.]" There is street parking. The box has a single door with a clear panel secured by a twist lock. The inside was stuffed with all sorts of interesting books including children's, reference and non-fiction. I was tempted by The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires but opted to leave it for the next patron. This is charter 128994 and there is no steward listed on the website. The caption reads, "Although the pond area is only for Mistletoe Hill Residents, the book box is located outside of the fence and is open for anyone to enjoy!" As I was leaving White Rock Lake Park, this library caught my eye. Peavy Road is quite busy and I…read morefeared stopping here so I continued to the next side street and was able to stop my vehicle there and pop over to the library. Painted a mint green with a wooden roof and wooden door that has a single clear panel, the library is quite full. I was able to add a couple of paperbacks to the collection as I am reducing the size of my own home library. I also grabbed a book to read today, Alex Trebek's biography that is now back into circulation. This is charter number 61091 and the online caption reads, "I have been enamored with the idea of the Little Free Library ever since I saw one for the first time while jogging in Tyler, TX. I said to myself "What IS this magic?!" Years later, I am finally the proud librarian of my very own Little Free Library. Fully stocked and ready for sharing. Let the adventure begin!" I called to see about getting my grandson's Bible repaired. It looked like he had played a few…read moregames of basketball with it. The back was off, but the inside Bible itself was intact. The price quoted was a lot with a 10 week wait! But after they explained what repair entailed and what to look for when purchasing a BIble that lasts, I understood. I didn't get the name of the person that spoke to me, but she had excellent customer service skills and she used them, taking time to explain the process so very kindly. I decided to just buy the kid a new Bible (one not glued, but sown together, her recommendation) but if I ever need a book repair service, they will surely get my business. And, I'll be sure to pass on their info. Customer service is a lost art, but not at The Book Doctor!

If you want a quick-and-dirty commercial fix, this is not your place. But if you are looking for a European time machine that will take a beloved book back to what it was or even better, this is the spot for you. We came to the Book Doctor with a small devotional, quite honestly a lost cause with no cover or binding and several severely damaged pages. We were hoping for some sort of cover and binding to preserve it since it is of great sentimental value and over 90 years old. What we received back was a gorgeous gem, a true made-to-order family heirloom. Not only was the cover beautiful, the binding is a work of art and pages we thought were lost forever were delicately and expertly restored. We stand amazed. Again, if you expect to do it on the cheap and have it by next week, forget it. But if the book in question matters to you and you budget for time and money, plan in advance, make an appointment with one of their experts, then expect the best. These are artisans who will pour all their skill and experience into your valued piece and devote entire days solely to its restoration.
