That is not the reason why. Living literally 5 minutes away from this food bank, (walking distance), I still wanted to be some sort of help to them and help the homeless community and feed the hungry people that are practically everywhere. They have couple of entrances adjacent to eachother and are affiliated with the church next door. With that being said, I packed up a bag of goodies and walked over there at 8:15AM on 7/27/26. They are only open on Mondays and Fridays. (Please update your hours on Yelp so you don't confuse people). Some volunteer workers really go out of their way to help people, and a few others will give you a blank, confused, and lost stare that makes you feel very small, like Daniel the other day. On the bright side, Barbra and the director of this food bank named Sloan were helpful, kind, positive, softspoken and knowledgeable. Anyway, packed my bag with: 2 boxes of Rice-a-Roni Pasta, 2 cans of Progresso Chicken Noodle soup, 1 box of family size Kellogs Berry cereal, variety of Oatmeals, 4 Toto Cookies. Some other types of canned food, 2 boxes of Macaroni & Cheese, 1 bag of Plain Bagels, (count of 6), one big box of Macadamia Nut cookies, and a single, small, lonely chips. This is NOT my first time donating food to them. I have seen a few perishable and non-perishable items/products with expired dates on them. That is UNACCEPTABLE!! They wouldn't eat it, so why give it to someone else?? This pantry is only donations for food/beverages. Nothing else. They also get food from our local supermarkets such as Ralphs, Vons, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts. Before they open, there is a long line outside to pick up a bag or two. Overall, it's not a bad place, but few volunteers need to go that extra mile, put a genuine/sincere smile on their faces and pretend not to be SO pretentious.. The value of the food is what you make it to be!

They don't give you an 8 hour window where you are required to attend - the food collected goes to local food organizations to feed the homeless throughout LA - it's a great excuse to get outdoors & get some exercise! Motivation I love the entire concept of this organization. It is challenging for the impoverished to get access to fresh fruit and produce. A low income man in the Midwest a few months ago went to the hospital and was diagnosed with Scurvy! Yes, like the pirates illness. Why? He was only eating cheap, frozen meals 3x a day for the past 18 mos., no fruit or produce, and was severely vitamin C deficient! MDs diagnosis, not mine. Access to healthy fruits and veggies is critical to health but can be challenging given the expense. In comes hero organization Food Forward! They pair up with local home owners who have excess fruit or veggies. They have volunteers come out to "pick" their excess fruit. The fruit is then taken to local food banks in the area and distributed outward. How cool is that? I spent 1.5 hrs with them picking grapefruit in Woodland Hills. It was such a fun way to volunteer my time but manageable enough to fit into my schedule. I loved it and look forward to volunteer with this terrific organization again in the future. I got to work with them at their annual summer harvest at CSUN in Northridge, in two hours we gathered 5000 pounds of oranges to benefit MEND poverty in Pacoima, Family rescue center in Canoga Park, and Seeds of Hope in Los Angeles through the Episcopal Church. If you're looking for volunteer opportunities or you're a home owner that has a fruit tree that is rarely harvested you should look up Food Forward.

On 4th of July weekend they gave me some great coffee additionally to the usual. They give some type of meat frozen or fresh, and a bag of pantry goods, a bag of veggies for cooking a soup perhaps, and bread, something sweet, and fruits. Sometimes you get something additionally, today I got a plant. These people do not judge you and I knew them when I was homeless and suffering horribly living in my car for a year and a half, and I know them still now that I am better off and housed. They feed me every time I drive up. There are new cars in the food line and mine is probably the worst looking in the food line, but we all get food to save us money. Thank you forever!
