Incredible dance studio. I was looking for fitness classes where instead of saying they were inclusive.... actually had people of LOTS of different body types and skin colors attended and had fun. Kat Dowrey's Sunday and Monday dance fitness is a solid 60 min of cardio, dancing, twerking, squats, and awesome songs. These women are rockstars and make the gym so fun! When you choose this option, you don't have to pay the start up fee of ~$20 if you decide to join as a member. I was just browsing ClassPass when I visited my friend in Seattle for the weekend when I came across Community Fitness. Seeing as it was only a 15 minute walk away and it wasn't too rainy, I figured I could get a decent workout in. So I signed up and showed up! I took Danielle's 9am bootcamp class on Saturday morning and had a blast! We used light and moderate free weights, gliders, a ball, and mat. First part of class was lower body work with some tabata bursts between sets. Second part of class was upper body work, again with some tabata bursts. Class ended with 3 minutes of full cardio and cool-down. Sign-in process was quick and easy - sign your name, acknowledge that you're fully/partially vaccinated, and walk on in. I felt safe here, as everyone was wearing a mask, and we sanitized everything afterwards. I highly recommend checking out a class or two if you're in the area and looking for a good workout! read more

If you like group fitness classes, Community Fitness is the jam to your toast (but make it whole wheat because we are healthy and into fitness). I've been attending classes at Community Fitness for the last three years and have never once regretted any of them. Their schedule has significant variety and they hire great instructors who are energetic, motivating, and professional. This location has one large and one small studio, each with plenty of space. The large studio has a stage and two side projectors which show what the instructor is doing. No more struggling to see what is going on if you are on a far side or in the back of the room!! I also appreciate the sky lights in the studio. Great to capture any natural light we can get on those gloomy winter days. My favorite classes are Daniel's Zumba (Sunday's) and any of their dance classes. The energetic and friendly crowd that attends really makes it feel like their namesake, a community. read more

Get fit with your community at Community Fitness! LOGISTICS // Parking on Roosevelt is a bit of a pain most days & times, but there are plenty of options a block away. There are two studios at this location (one for Tabata, TRX, and cycling & one for dance and weightlifting) and a third studio on 65th for yoga, so be sure to double check which one you're heading to before class. SERVICE // The front desk gal who greeted me during my first visit was awesome. Super warm and even offered to help set up my equipment in the studio. I really appreciated this because I've never done Body Pump and, with how the class is designed, there isn't a ton of direction from the instructor before, during, or after the workout. FACILITIES // The weightlifting studio has cool colorful club-like lighting, an elevated stage where the instructor teaches, a projection screen to help folks see from the back, a fully stocked equipment corner, and a line of cubbies to the side for storing personal belongings. CLASS // I like that Body Pump is super customizable to all shapes, forms, and abilities. The music is pretty good, too. What I liked a little less was the redundancy of the tracks, the piles of free weights everyone needs to get & return between different exercises, and the lack of interaction with the instructor being posted up at the front. This class is definitely better and SAFER for folks with basic knowledge of weightlifting techniques. TLDR // Not sure if I'm a fan of the Les Mills Body Pump program and how it's taught here; it made me feel like I might as well get a self-guided workout tape and do the reps on my own time. That said, I do like everything else about Community Fitness so far and plan on trying one of their dance classes next! read more

Your review of Community Fitness will depend upon how much you like participating in GROUP FITNESS ACTIVITIES. Note that the name of the place is COMMUNITY FITNESS, and most classes on the weekends and after work will be packed with people from your COMMUNITY, who are jostling with you for space on the dance floor or groaning next to you on the cycle. The good - a variety of classes from Tabata workouts to different types of dance fitness and spinning with great instructors who each bring his/her unique brand of fun/pain into the classes. The prices are also reasonable for a full-access pass, and Community Fitness does offer once-in-a-while discounted rates through Groupons, Class Pass or the Chinook book for new recruits. There are two rooms - both with an elevated platform and two large-screens on which you can view your chirpy instructor through your blurry, mascara- and sweat-soaked eyes. The screens give you the ability to follow the instructor regardless where you're at in the room, though the outside light (and your immense pain) may make the screen difficult to see at times. The gym is loaded with all types of spin cycles, weights, mats, balls and clean towels for the body as well as cleaning supplies for the equipment. The bad - no real one-on-one instruction offered in the group classes (COMMUNITY, remember?) This means potentially performing certain weight-lifting moves incorrectly and injuring yourself, looking like an ass on the dance floor when you sashay gallantly to the left and everyone else is twerking MIchael-Jackson-like to the right, fumbling with the resistance on your spin cycle, so that there's so little resistance you feel like your legs are going to unscrew themselves off your body and down Roosevelt Way to find itself a foot massage - believe me, I've been there. I would also hate being a resident in that neighborhood. CF offers only a handful of parking spots adjacent to the building and while parking spots can be found on weekday day times, it's very difficult during the weekends and evenings, where you must resort to restricted street parking. CF also doesn't allow for reserving class spots in advance and try to pack in as many into a class as possible, even though the motto is, "first come first served". For the more popular dance classes, this means a flash mob situation where virtually every spot on the floor is occupied. I wish CF had a better reservation system for its more popular classes, as it is registered with the MIndBody app but doesn't utilize the system fully for reservations. The facility also doesn't have showers, which is OK for me, but may not be for those who take a quick noon class and must head back to work. But I know the objective of CF is to keep rates low for its members and maintain a low/no-frills facility. And for that, CF does a great job. read more

The owner, instructors, and staff have an unwavering commitment to providing a fun, welcoming (sweaty!) experience for everyone who comes through the door or hops on the virtual class offerings. I've been a member here since 2016 and recommend it unequivocally. They offer an array of dance fitness, cycle, strength training and other classes and have the best instructors in Seattle. I am changing my review to five stars as it's all to Daren. I have been coming here off and on now for two years. I adore Daren Wade's Noon Monday class and also Wednesday when I am able to attend. His energy is so great I always come out of his classes smiling and feeling great. They aren't that crowded but some days more than others. Never wall to wall people. The staff is always super friendly and helpful as well. I wish I lived closer as I would buy a monthly membership as the amount of classes is incredible. A close 10 minute drive though, parking can be hard to find but it's my Monday funday and I work from home Monday's so I can attend his noon class. If you have never tried Zumba Daren is a great instructor. Everyone is super friendly it's just a great experience. read more

This studio is so awesome! I love coming here for all their different exercise classes. My favorites include Heather and Amy's spin classes. Both their classes get pretty packed so I would say come here a little earlier to claim your bike (especially on Saturday mornings). Amy teaches a half spin and half bar class, which gives you a great all around work out. The pace is usually pretty good where they challenge you but don't make you feel pressured to go beyond your limit. I also like Deb, Danielle, and Dan's cycle classes. The only drawback about Dan's class is that he plays his music too loud. If you get a bike on the right or left side, you might pop your ear drum. Their classes are pretty awesome too. Every time I come here, I feel like I really get a good work out and feel healthy. All the instructors also give you helpful tips too. I took a bar class a couple of times and it was pretty challenging. I think cycling is way easier than bar. I also took a circuits class here that was pretty good too. Like I said, all the instructors are pretty much amazing. There is no pretentiousness or favoritism at this studio. I've been to some studios where they place all the good students up in front and the bad students in the back. The parking is pretty good here but the only thing is that if you come late, good luck finding a spot. You might have to circle several times around the neighborhood before you can find good parking. The facility is pretty clean and the other students are fairly respectful to each other. I think $75+ for a monthly membership is very affordable. read more

Just found out my prepaid classes expired. I'll take some blame for this because I joined a traditional gym and haven't visited Community Fitness in awhile.... but I would have appreciated a phone call or a postcard letting me know about a month in advance that my prepaid class credits were going to expire... that's like 100 bucks that I gave them and can't have back. I don't remember being told that my classes would expire when I paid for them.... so I'm writing this review to warn others! I had high expectations for CF, since I had heard that the reason this place is so pricey is because they have world class instructors. Although I don't particularly like paying a lot, I am more than willing to do so if it's for something I can't get anywhere else or if the instructors are truly experts in their field. I tried out a BodyPump class and although the instructor was very "welcoming" and friendly, she was definitely less knowledgeable than any of my BodyPump instructors at Gold's Gym or 24- Hour Fitness. I may come back another time to see if maybe a different instructor is better or possibly try Zumba here, as I'm a huge Zumba fan! Things I really liked about CF was the tv screens so you can see what your instructor is doing in case you can't see well from your spot. Also they had lots of nice & new equipment. Parking was also easy to find close by, although I did come during the day. I wish they had a locker room with shower. Although was happy they at least had a changing room. I am writing this review based on the HIIT demo class by Josh at lululemon today. His HIIT class was very fun and with challenging, strengthening components. He is so personable and very knowledgeable about fitness exercises. His enthusiasm and ability to demo & teach the various levels or modifications for each move is stellar. This place is fantastic if you love group fitness. They have a huge variety of classes between the two studios (soon to be 3!). I love all of the instructors I've tried and you really can't beat the price ($12/drop in; $10/class if you buy $10, or $60/month). I purchased the 10 class punch to try things out, then signed up for the $60 monthly deal. Yes, the classes definitely fill up, but it hasn't been an issue for me. Do plan to get to your class a few minutes early, or you might be out of luck. A couple of things that would make the experience even better: More classes like Tabata in the evening. Currently there are a bazillion zumba options and only a handful of other options during the week in the evening. Friday evening and Saturday afternoon classes. I've been at other studios where these classes fill up, just like everything else. read more

I was a member of Community Fitness for about 8 months. The instructors are all awesome and every staff member I came across was really friendly! Plus, the variety of classes offered for the membership price can't be beat. I do wish Community Fitness was a little stricter about class sizes and leaving early/coming late. It was sometimes hard to do all the movements because the rooms were so packed (especially at the Flow Studio) and I always found it really distracting when people would come and go in the middle of class. Overall, I think this is a great place to go if you are looking to try a variety of group fitness classes, but ultimately you may want to look into a more specialized gym option if you find one type of class (yoga, barre, etc.) that really works for you. read more

Ok, so my first class got cancelled as I was in it but I took it as a fluke and went back, and am so stoked I did. Had a vinyasa yoga class, and I'm happy to say it was just the perfect one. This studio is great because it's not heated which is really rare to find, and ego free, another rare find. I've been looking for a studio like this for so long and thanks to Groupon I found it. I have yet to try their other classes as I'm a little nervous about cycling and stuff but I'm sure those are great too! read more

I used to LOVE going to community fitness for Zumba. Then they expanded and opened up their new studio. Lasara is an amazing teacher but I decided to try out Chris' class. 1. The class was WAY too crowded. People were on top of eachother 2. At some point the women in front of me kicked me in my knee 3. I went out to tell the front desk to stop letting people in bc the class was way too crowded and they ignored me, in fact didn't even look at me when I said something 4. I called the manager and said they need to manage their space better and let him know I got kicked in the knee. He told me to find another space in the class and there was no way they were at maximum capacity. HORRIBLE "customer service." He didn't even attempt to apologize. read more

I hesitate to rave too much about this place, because classes are already so full as it is, and I'm not very good at sharing, but I can't help it! I've taken a few more classes and wanted to tell you about them. Bodypump - weightlifting set to music, and it'll totally pump...you...up! And by that I mean, you won't be able to walk for five days afterward. Cycling - I tried this for the first time, and the instructor was very helpful in setting up the bike so it fit me and giving me advice about how it would go. I'm now signed up as an official member, and that process was every bit as easy. There's a one-time $12 set up fee, and you can either pay with a credit card or direct deposit, which they'll charge for you every month. If you ever want to cancel, you just let them know ten days before the next month starts. Easy peasy! read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. I am NOT easily impressed. In fact, I'm very hard to impress. And on top of that, I hate working out. I've come to realize that I need variety, a lot of variety, and I need FUN. After Annika and Patience visited my usual gym for their Ruby dance class, I decided to check out a special event going on at CFit - the Beyonce Workshop. It was honestly the most fun I've had in a long time. First of all, they had drinks and snacks and mingling going on beforehand. It was PACKED. It was like an all girl dance party in my living room. I was very impressed with the studio space. There's an elevated stage for the instructors. It was so packed that I was wondering how I would see well, but duh, thats what the two large projector screens are for. It was like being at a concert with no bad seat because of the screens. Seriously, such a simple concept, but I never would have thought about it for a dance class. There were 5 different instructors who took turns with their choreography, which gave awesome variety and kept things going. I am so glad I went, and I am actually excited to try all the classes at this unique and special gym. read more

Community Fitness has great instructors. I took the best Zumba class here with Lasara, a brilliant dancer with the best attitude and a great energy. She's super friendly and makes the class feel very welcoming even though it's always a big class. I haven't tried Zumba classes here with other instructors, but I'm sure they're equally fun and high quality. Lasara has quite a following here; she knows most people in class by name and she makes it a point to get to know first timers. I like that her Zumba classes are purely about having fun, not so much about (re)discovering your sexiness. The dance moves are high energy, fun, and PG-13, so bring on the kids! She keeps her playlist topped up with awesome top 40, hip hop and Latin-inspired music. I want to steal her Spotify playlist. I've also tried danceDaigre with Chris Daigre, which was fun. I feel like once you're over the age of 13, you rarely feel "playful" anymore and if you want to get in touch with your playful side, you should come to a danceDaigre class! It put me in such a good mood. I like that Chris takes the time to break down each move and we get to build on each move throughout the class. I have terrible hand-eye-foot-everything coordination and can't count for shit, so I really appreciate the breakdown. At 75-minute long, the class is a bit too long for me since I have the attention span of a goldfish, but time flies. They have two large dance studios with AC, clean towels and overhead screens that show close-up views of the instructors. Unfortunately they always seem to overbook the classes. When they're charging $16/class, I expect them to care more about the client experience. I also wish they would institute stricter rules that are the norms at other studios: 5-minute grace period for latecomers, no cell phone during class, and no going in/out during the class (except during stretching). It's just a nice courtesy to everyone in class, because it's distracting when people are constantly coming in and out of class/getting to and from the cubbies to get their phones. read more

I have been attending Community Fitness consistently for a few years now. I like their instructors and their class formats. Also, they are extremely affordable for the variety of classes and quality of instructors. Their instructors also play fantastic music and keep classes engaging. I have one issue that has been plaguing me for a few months now. Their classes are way too full. This morning I went to a class at 6am, not a time I like to go but that was the time my schedule allowed. Everyone in the class was basically on top of each other. I have attended classes at other times as well where this was the case. Many of the times it is in their Body Pump and Tabata classes where I feel like I am going to hit someone with a body part or a weight. It really inhibits my ability to get the full workout I went there for. Also, about 15 minutes before the class ended people started packing up to leave and put their equipment away which is distracting and really takes away from the enjoyability of the class. read more

I recently moved into the neighborhood right in the middle of both of the community fitness gyms. I was anxious to find a new place to work out, however, recently was in a car accident 2.5 months ago.The only exercise I could do after the accident was walk due to back and neck injuries. Disappointing for someone very active. This gym was sending me a coupon each month for a free class, but I also decided to forgo the coupon and buy a Groupon for an unlimited month as I was interested in trying a few dance classes and yoga. My back wasn't ready for any other type of class they offer but they have a few different dance classes and yoga. I was nervous to use the unlimited month Groupon as I wasn't sure how my back was going to react after the first class and I didn't want it to go to waste if I needed to hold off for a while longer if I had a bad reaction the next day. I asked the girl at the front desk, can I use the one class coupon, and if I feel ok the next day we can activate my Groupon for the day I took the first class, so I am NOT double dipping and activating the Groupon on my second class but instead the date I first came to the gym. Fair request. I just really need to see if my body could handle any type of work out class first DUE to a recent car accident! She said yes, and she would email the Manager alerting her. Luckily, my back didn't feel any worse the next day, and I discussed it with my Chiropractor and he said it should be fine as long as I never feel worse after a class. The next day I go back to try another class since the Zumba class was great but mainly offered in the middle of the day during the week. I needed to make sure they offer other classes I like before starting a membership..... and afterall, that's what Groupon is for (month unlimited to try other classes before committing). The Manager refused and said I needed to return the Groupon and start new membership. Maybe they don't need more customers (although they send monthly coupons), but that's not how you treat a new client. As long as I used my Groupon and found a few classes I could take, I would have been a very loyal and long lasting customer. I had actually already recruited 3 other friends to do a zumba class with me the following Sunday. I cannot give my money to a place that does not have good customer service. I pride myself on giving great customer service to my clients and expect the same. I was in a car accident! And asked if this was ok and told yes by the girl at the front desk. If she had said no, I would have not taken the one class, waited a month to make sure I was more healed and then used my Groupon. I'm not trying to take advantage of a company, just wanted to make sure I was healed enough before started an unlimited month that expires. It's a shame, I was looking forward to some of their dance classes. Guess I will look for another gym or try the yoga studio down the street. Disappointed in the lack of customer service! read more

There are a lot of positives about Community Fitness and some less-positives. I hope they read their Yelp reviews because with a few small changes, Community Fitness could be nothing but totally awesome! First, a disclaimer: I have only been to Zumba and Ruby classes so far at the Roosevelt Play studio. Next, the positives: - Clean, well maintained facilities. - Fantastic instructors, especially Mackenzie, Lasara and Camille - The lighting in the room (dim, with changing colors) makes it feel like you are in a cool club rather than a gym. I am also more comfortable letting loose when it's a little dim. - Great, loud music! Lots of hip hop and r&b- Not strictly salsa. - Inclusive, body and diversity positive environment. Now, the less positive: - Can be super crowded. - Parking. It's rough. - Every now and then they leave the florescent overhead lights on during class- Goodbye cool clubby atmosphere, hello glaring lights and unflattering view of myself in a giant mirror. Nit-picky, but I have strong feelings about florescent lighting ;) Overall, I love taking Zumba at Community Fitness and feel that with a few adjustments they could be seriously unstoppable. I love Community Fitness. My BOOTY loves Community Fitness. The moral of the story? My husband loves Community Fitness. Ok, in all seriousness, this place is wonderful. The Roosevelt studio is spacious and clean, and I adore the fact that there is a lifted area for the instructor to stand which allows for maximum visibility. Also, the two large screens ensure that even a 5'3 munchkin like myself can see what is going on when I run in late and end up in the back. So far, I have only taken Zumba at this location, thought there is a veritable plethora of options on the schedule. I have been in class with Nathalye (my favorite), Daniel and Sol. Everyone brings their own personality to the class, but the common denominator is the supportive energy, wide range of instructions for people at different levels and overall some of the most challenging Zumba classes I've had the pleasure of taking. There is a courtesy towel service, and the studio always feels bright and well maintained. Parking is mostly neighborhood parking, but I've never had to park further than one block away, and frequently I can park right out front. Above all, it seems like everyone feels good about themselves when they come here. I have seen people of all ages, weights, genders, races, ability and confidence level in the classes I have attended. In all of them, there was a general environment of fun and support that really made me feel at home. Not only will I be going to the studio again, I'm actually looking forward to it! read more

I found Community Fitness on my apartment complex's website about a month and a half ago, when I was still living in LA. Just from their website alone, I knew that CF was a fitness center that I wanted to join. Not knowing more than about 6 people in Seattle, I was a little nervous to go to class at first. I tried many ways to talk myself out of it, but finally I got in my car and drove. From the second I arrived, I was glad that I forced myself up. I was able to find parking across the street without any problem (now that I am familiar with the location, I'm lucky enough to be able to walk there from my apartment). The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful, got me set up with the monthly plan ($60 a month for UNLIMITED classes?! Are you kidding me?! Amazing!!), told me how to sign in for classes, and sent me on my way. The first class I took was TRX with Heather. I was impressed by her high energy and friendliness, and the class kicked my ass. However, I was also pleasantly surprised by the friendly people in the class. We only exchanged tentative smiles at the most, but I felt at home and didn't feel like anyone was judging me, even though I was in the rattiest workout clothes in the room. I've been warned time and time again about the unfriendly people in Seattle, but this was not a place that I was going to find that. The next day, I was SORE!! That's such a great feeling!! I went back to this class last week and will continue to do so. The next class that I tried was Tabata with David in the wee hours of the morning on Friday (6 am!). I wasn't sure what to expect at that hour, but David again was very friendly, welcoming, and high-energy. The class was totally full! Everyone was friendly, smiling at me, and I didn't feel judged. Like before, I got an amazing workout, and since I'm new, David took the time to explain Tabata so that I had a feel for how it works. And again, the next day I was SO SORE!! The most recent class I took was Boot Camp yesterday with Danielle. This time, I brought my boyfriend. He was very nervous about being the only guy in class but it turned out that there were several in Boot Camp. Oh. My. God. I worked out SO HARD!!! It was amazing. Danielle was probably the friendliest out of all of the instructors I've seen so far, and that's saying a LOT because this is quite a friendly bunch. She made sure that my boyfriend was paired up with someone and wasn't left out. She was big on motivation, telling the class over and over how proud she was of us being there and making it through. Ego boost along with class! I absolutely loved it. The best thing about the instructors is that they are all very careful to tell you to ONLY do what your body can do, and to show you modified versions of the workouts. I think that's so important, because people can really get hurt trying to do things that they aren't ready for. Additionally, the instructors also give alternate versions of the workouts that are even more difficult to do. I haven't tried those yet, but I expect that I will soon. I really can't say enough good things about CF. I am so excited that this is one of the first communities I've discovered here in Seattle, and because the price, the people, and the workouts are all just right, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!! read more

Found a coupon for a free class in my Chinook Book so I decided to check it out. Although I have driven by the Roosevelt location a million times I never even noticed this was there. I found some street parking in the neighborhood fairly easily. I had thought this must be a gym, but it appears to be a location for classes only. I checked out a body pump class. I really like the large room. It was nice to have a video screen to see the movements of the teacher. There are also lots of mirrors. I also appreciated the cubbie holes in the room to store your belongings in. I found it odd there was no locker room, but I rarely make use of showers or anything like that. Prices seem pretty decent. Instruction was great. Glad I made the trip. read more

I've taken several zumba and barre classes. All have been a great workout and really fun (well, at least the zumba. Barre wasn't fun...but it was a great workout...). All are crowded, but if you get there a few minutes early, you can get a spot. My only complaint...Sol's zumba classes are really loud. Uncomfortably loud. I've spoken with both Sol and the front desk staff requesting that it be turned down just a tad, and each time have been shot down and handed ear plugs. I just realized I hadn't yet reviewed Community Fitness, the place that was largely responsible for the most fun-filled 30 days I had during 2013. I purchased a $29 Groupon for Community Fitness in March. A fitness instructor myself, I like to periodically attend group exercise classes to get new ideas, or even to see what's going on in the industry that I dislike. As far as fitness is concerned, I've been in the biz for a long time, so I've experienced a lot of varying teaching and training styles. I'm pretty picky, usually finding just a couple instructors in any one place who I will voluntarily drag my already-sore glute muscles off my sofa and into their classes for repeat torture. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I cashed in my Groupon in August, took a Barre class, and loved it. Then I took a Zumba class, and loved it, too. Then I took another Zumba class taught by someone else and liked it even more than the first one. I was like a kid in a candy store. Alas, my Groupon inevitably ended, as did my summer joy. I wish I would have been able to take classes from all instructors, but I did take sessions from about ten of them. My favorite Zumba class was taught by Daniel--prepare to work and sweat. I loved Medora's "Dance Club" class, but so does everyone else--her classes were always packed. John teaches an excellent basic Step & Sculpt class, and he's very funny (he's also a friend of mine, yay!). Andrea's Barre class is challenging, and I appreciate her no-nonsense instructional style. Community Fitness has three studios, named after the kinds of classes typically offered in each: "Power," "Play," and "Flow." The Flow studio, on NE 65th Street, featuring yoga, Barre, and core strength classes, is really small, so most offerings are in the Power and Play spaces, located on NE Roosevelt Avenue. The rooms are very comfortable--I found there to be more than adequate ventilation, with both cooling units on the wall and fans on the ceiling. The Play studio features dramatic lighting to make "Dance Club" and similar style classes seem a little more like...well...a dance club. My review is as close as I think I can get to a five-star fitness club review. The only elements I didn't care for were how crowded the spaces can get, and that the prices are going up ($12 to $16 for single drop-in classes; 10-class pass going from $98 to $116; monthly $60 to $70). read more

I am truly impressed by this place. I have been going close to daily for about 2 weeks now and I am hooked and I love it. To me, the best part is the variety. They have so many different classes available at their 3 different studios so you can honestly always find something you want to go to that day. Plus, it is extremely reasonable in cost compared to most of the other studios out there that only give you 1 option instead of all the variety! If you're looking for a recommendation, my favorite classes so far have been: - Saturday morning Zumba with McKensie and Camille - Monday afternoon Pranabarre with Lasara - Tuesday afternoon Total Body Conditioning with John - Friday afternoon Cycle Burn with David If you're thinking about it - just go! So I USED to hate working out. My first time stepping into a gym and onto an elliptical machine was at a bright young age of 20. Now I love working out, I actually look forward to it. Community Fitness is for workout maniacs and newbies like me :) Enough about me, let's get to the business: 1) ZUMBA: HELL YAH. If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and take a class from DANIEL or MEDORA (they will work your fat ass off). If you want to take it more slow and have someone expertly teach you the moves step by step, take LISA B's class. NOTE: Some Zumba classes are WAY too packed, which annoys the hell out of me. Hopefully the studio will do something about this. 2) Cycling (spin): I've taken classes from 3 different instructors. DANIELLE was super motivating and hilarious throughout the class. BEN pushes you and almost made me want to cry (OK, I'm exaggerating. But he did tell me to move my ass). I'm the type of person who needs that push. So I will definitely be going back to BEN's class. TOMMY was EXCELLENT! I love his interval training technique. Go tommy! 3) Body Pump: I almost died, but will try it again. Perhaps today. I love Community Fitness. The classes are ALL so fun, that you *almost* forget you're exercising. They have an excellent range of class times to fit anyone's schedule. I have been taking classes at Community Fitness for a year now, and I am still a fan! The Roosevelt studio has classes that will cater to almost anyone, regardless of fitness level. Pedal & Pulse was my first love at CF where you get a 30 min spin & 30 min total body barre class. I like that I always feel accomplished after taking this class. Over time, I started checking out other classes. While I wasn't too crazy of a body shred class I tried, other classes I do enjoy taking here are Tabata (with Josh) and Small Group Personal Training (with Dan). I like Tabata since it's a HIIT style workout (cardio + strength training in one!) and Josh is a fun instructor. The Small Group Personal Training classes are unique, where you're challenged to do intense full-body strength exercises that maximize effort and minimize rest. Also, the class is roughly 30 min and its a great class to take if you have a busy schedule. Dan, one of the small group instructors, is very personable and is passionate about his students working hard during his classes. I even received an email during the month I was not able to attend the classes, to check up on how I was doing. I am a fan of places that have a sense of community so I really appreciated the follow up email. There are still many classes I have yet to try at Community Fitness. It only makes me wish I had more time to try them all. read more

I just started working out at Community Fitness and I love it! I wanted to find a place that I could go that had lots (lots!) of classes throughout the day and some on the weekend, without having to sign a contract, or pay an arm and leg to work out. I found it with Community Fitness. I love being able to attend a class where I am not focused on the pain my body is going through, but rather having a great time in the class and then realizing how exhausted I am! Positives: 1) No Contract 2) Drop-in's welcome! $12 for a class (that is with tax included) 3) Zumba classes everynight of the week 4) Different instructors everynight so you're never stuck with the same thing. 5) $50 a month Unlimited 6) Lots of different types of classes throughout the day and there are even weekend Zumba classes! how great! 7) Everyone is welcome, guys, girls, all ages (and you wont feel uncomfortable) Negatives: 1) Paying the unlimited $50 does have to be set up on a recurring payment, from a credit card or bank account. 2) Having to inform them 10 days before the end of the month to cancel the next months payment b/c you're not going there anymore (kind of a pain) 3) Its kind of far from my place (okay this is just about me, but it might be relevant to someone else out there) Okay, so the positives definitely out-weigh the negatives (and as you could tell, I was definitely reaching for negatives). BTW the instructors are great, I actually find myself laughing at their cheesy jokes while I'm salsa-ing it up in Zumba. I love that I can get a great work out, have a great time, and not feel self-conscious. These instructors really make everyone feel comfortable. WOW, just took my first spinning/cycling class and got my butt royally handed to me. I've been looking for places offering cycling classes w/o having to purchase a membership and this place had rave reviews and reasonable prices. Drop in classes are $12 or you can purchase a 10 punch card for about $100. I love how close it is to my home! Dainielle B. set up my bike for me and comforted me to just make it through the class continually cycling since I'm a newb. She is a GREAT motivator and it was an awesome & fun class!! What a great way to get in a work out... a jog around Green Lake seems like baby stuff compared to this. read more

I've been a faithful Zumba-er at this location for 3 months now. I go 5-6 days a week, so I've been every day of the week and experienced all of the different instructors. The studio is great--huge with a "stage" for the mic'ed instructor so that person is elevated, as well as 2 screens on the sides projecting the instructor so you won't miss any of the footwork. The place has a/c and lots of overhead fans, and a filtered water dispenser specifically for filling your water bottle. As someone with a monthly membership, I can take any number of Zumba, Body Pump (weights), Nia, and spin classes that are offered. I can also use the older/smaller 65th Street studio, which offers more classes like Kickboxing and Barre. For $50, it's an awesome deal for me because I am NOT a gym rat. I need variety and fun. I love that someone else is coming up with all of the routines and workouts for me to follow. In regards to Zumba, Nathalye is the reason I joined, but Medora and Sol are favorites of mine as well. The male teachers at this facility teach in silence and I don't like that at all, but their classes are just as popular so clearly not everyone is bothered by that. Two reasons I can't give this place 5 stars: 1) They never put a cap on the class sizes, so, as others have stated in previous reviews, there are some classes in which you are literally knocking into the person next to you (even when you know the moves). I wish they would adopt an online reservation system like mindbodyonline. 2) Neither facility has parking. Street parking isn't impossible to find, but it does take that extra 5-10 minutes of circling the block(s) that makes you start off your class with a feeling of annoyance. I'm hopeful they will add some mat Pilates and/or Dailey Method in time, but I can't complain. There are already a variety of offerings to meet many needs and wants. I'm a fan. read more

"YOU'VE GOT THIS!!... YOU'RE REALLY WORKING NOW!... YOU'VE ALREADY DONE THE HARDEST PART BY GETTING HERE, JUST A LITTLE MORE LEFT!!" I love motivational working out, it really does keep me from quitting when I get tired and my legs start shaking. I've taken several group fitness classes throughout the Seattle area and all were fine, but not like Community Fitness! Holy crap, it's like a workout DVD (peppy, awesome instructor) but in real life. I bought a groupon here and went as much as I could during that time and loved it. I didn't join though because it's a little on the pricey side (for me anyway) and I really need more cardio. Don't get me wrong, they have tons of cardio, but during the times I could go it always seemed to be strength or cardio/strength. Sometimes my muscles just cant handle that much strength training without a rest and since they don't have machines I decided to go elsewhere. If they were a little cheaper or a little closer to my house though, I'd be there all the time! I love their waterbottle filler. And the fact that they don't have showers with tons of naked people around all the time. It's new and clean and the staff is just great! read more

I love this studio! I've only been twice, but both times were fun and very challenging. I consider myself to be pretty fit, but I took a Cycle Burn and Tabata class and left both feeling like I had died, a good died. I mean, I don't want to leave a class feeling like nothing happened, so it's worth it :) My friend has the unlimited pass here and invited me to a class. I paid for a drop in and decided to wait to see what it was like before committing to anything. If I lived closer, I would most definitely buy the monthly unlimited pass, but I live in Kirkland and only attend when I drive to work in Seattle. There is a huge variety of classes (I have yet to try any of the Flow Studio classes) in the early morning, daytime and evening. I decided to get the 10-class pass (which drops class price from $16 to $11.60/class) because it is good for a year and I think I can swing 10 classes in that amount of time. The studio is great. Huge, but they do pack out. Lovely facility, modern and clean. Amazing instructors - very high energy and fun. Front staff always nice and welcoming. I've gotten lucky with street parking. I've snagged the 2-hour spots on the side roads and haven't had any issues. Great place to get fit. read more
