We tried this place out for lunch today. It is more of a bar than a restaurant, but the food was actually pretty good and very reasonably priced. There is no easy parking in this little eclectic area, but we found a spot on the side street. We got here about 1 pm and had no problem being seated. There are about 6 beers on draft and many beer options in the cooler. We tried the Lionshead Pilsner and were pleasantly surprised... so we split a total of 3. My wife had a bacon melt and I had a philly steak wrap. This is typical bar food but it was pretty good. You can tell that this bar has a local following of clientele based on my observations during lunch. Pretty cool place! There are lots of TVs and two pool tables. I bet this would be a fun place to watch a game with friends.

No frills, no fuss, no drama. Want comfort with comfort food? This just might be the place for it: ++ Take a seat as you walk in. You don't necessarily need to wait to be seated. There are several menu books in the pockets on the wall, and feel free to ask for the day's specials. Love the $5 lunch specials (until 2pm), and food comes out quickly. Hotdog x2 with fries: 'rustic' comes to mind. My hotdog with everything wasn't exactly loaded, but it did have a bit of everything from slaw and chili to chopped onions and pickles. If you're concerned about fats and calories, this may not be the best choice of meal (or even a venue) for you, but boy did I this extra kick that day! Sausage tasted like it was panfried, not boiled or grilled. We're determined to go back for their subs. To be continued!

If I lived in Roanoke VA this would be my regular hangout. If you know me then you know I love dive bars and this place is tops. The service is quick, the music is controlled by the bartenders, the food is delicious comfort bar food. And the fries, OMG the fries. Yum to the ummmmmm!!!! I ordered the philly cheese steak with the battered fries and was so content I was amazed. This is all while the Amy Winehouse station was jamming in the background JAMMING!!!! The customers were all super nice- friendly- and everyone seems to be in good time mode. If you happen to be in this small part of VA, make sure to make a stop at the Community Inn !!

It is divey. It is old. It is nothing spectacular. But if you want to have that Old College Bar experience then this is it. The beers are great. Drinks basic. And the food is that out of a college bar place. But I keep going back. Just your neighborhood bar. I was taken by a business associate here in town. My team at work said I would like it. I took my son and he loved it. Decent food. Good prices. DIvey and wonderful.

chicken and fries in a basket

This is the $10 flounder dinner. The 4" square piece of fish was so over cooked it was like saw dust! All three things I ordered were terrible and looked nothing like the pictures I saw on Yelp! Will not be back!!!!

Nothing fancy here, but the food is good, the people are friendly and the beer is served ice cold. Pool table, smoking are, this is just a cool place.

So much head on the beer!

It's a place you are welcomed from the time you step in. The food and drinks are wonderful, and the service is extraordinary. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. When I arrived the place was full. People enjoying quality time with significant others, in a comfortable environment, drinking and eating to their hearts desire. I stood there, waiting to be seated, and somehow I didn't mind the wait. Who would be my server, Chelsea came and greeted me with a smile, letting me know that soon she would have a table for me. And this was not a fake promise like they tell you at other places to keep your hopes up. As soon as some customers left a table near by she went to clean it and set.it up for me. Last time I came here, I came with.a friend, this time I came along. And you know what, it didn't mind to her the size of the party, she treated everyone the same. With the same respect and caring attitude. And you know what. This is really what makes tje big difference in coming to eat here. In no time at all she had me seated at a 4 person booth looking over the menu and enjoying a Strawberry Saffron Tonic Mocktail which was the first thing I ordered. You know what, it doesn't matter what drink you have to enjoy yourself and have a good time, it's just a matter of attitude. Right then and there, you can sayI hadva great attitude of life. This is the kind of feeling this place brings out in their customers. More than customers, they see us as their guests. Even though I was looking at the menu, I already knew what I was going to have. A sandwich that ever since I moved to Roanoke, has become my favorite of them all in this Star City: The Ricky Ricardo of the Village Grill. Having been born in Cuba and grown up in Miami and Puerto Rico, I have learned to appreciate a good Cuban Sandwich. And this is not only one that comes close to it, but has perfected it with their golden touch and creativity, and yet maintaining it true identity. There is nothing greater one can say from an item from the menu. The fries that accompanied it were also amazing. My server Chelsea provided great service, coming by at the appropriate times to check on me. For dessert, I had the Cheesecake Du Jour that happened to be Peanut Butter, my favorite. What a Wonderful dining experience I had here. Needless to say, I highly recommend this place for its great ambiance, magnificent food, and excellent service. I can't say enough good things about it. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany this review and see for yourself, and then go visit this place and experience the magic.

Last week our meal was delicious but the portions were tiny compared to what we've been used to. The pulled pork and the salmon were literally 2oz portions. The little cup of coleslaw was almost as big as the portion of pork. What a disappointment!! We paid over $20/person for child like portions. Our server was so nice we didn't have the heart to complain. In retrospect that was a mistake. Nathan needs to be aware of this if he isn't already... It'll be a very long time before we go back, if ever.

I arrived on a Thursday evening with a 6:15pm reservation which I'm glad I had made because later I found out that this place gets to be a full house on Thursdays. A young lady host greeted and welcomed me at the Host's station as soon as I arrived. She checked my reservation and had my table all ready for me. Located in the middle of this very popular Restaurant Bar, gave me a nice view of the entire place, and with a light high above I had a perfect lighting to photograph my drink and food as part of my review of the place. My server Jillian arrived soon after I was seated. She had a wonderful personality and welcomed me with a friendly smile and very pleasant attitude. After answering me some questions about their Mocktails, I ended up ordering their Raspberry Burro. For dinner I ordered their BBQ Bacon Chicken Kababs with a side of their special fries and a salad. While I was waiting for my food to arrive I observed the place quickly filling up and I found out that tonight was Music Bingo and Live Music at 9:30pm with no cover charge. It brought me back to my college days in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the night life was a thing to look forward to. Suddenly I discovered the key of Martin's popularity and the important role it plays in contributing to making the City of Roanoke a Star City indeed. I enjoyed my drink and the Chicken Kababs with the side of special fries were amazingly delicious, as well as the salad. They have a good variety of quality items on their menu and their chefs amazingly deliver. I invite you to read my first review where I celebrate their Cuban Sandwich and Slaw, and view my photographs that accompany my review. What a night. Besides the food, I enjoyed playing the Music Bingo, which one of the card titles was The 1970's. One of the best years of my life, when I attended High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico and College in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. During that time I also won a Saltwater Fishing Tournament at the young age of 17 by catching a 405 pound Blue Marlin off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. It was the best of times for me. My server Jillian provided exceptional customer service, checking on me at the appropriate times. For dessert I ordered their Glazed Doughnut Bread Pudding, and it was so good, I can't wait to return to have it again. What an extraordinary dining experience I had that night. I highly recommend this restaurant and bar for when you feel like having a good time, alone or with family and good friends. I promise you will be able to sabor what a Five Star review is all about, and experience for yourselves why Martin's is one of the City of Roanoke's most precious gems.

A family-owned restaurant that has been serving locals, travelers, and late-night crowds from its classic 10-stool lunch counter since 1930, and continues to be strictly cash-only. Who has said that the key to its longevity has been sticking to what has made them successful since they opened. A restaurant that has never been remodeled and whose menu has never been expanded, but that in this lies its real charm. A restaurant that despite economic hardship, tries never to raise prices and remain affordable. A restaurant that many people go to it because of their food, others because of their prices, and others like me this morning, because of the experience to sit at its counter and appreciate its character and charm while enjoying a classic breakfast of three fried eggs over easy with bacon and white toast basted with butter. That restaurant was and continues to be the iconic Texas Tavern, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This morning I drove my pearl white Lexus up to it and parked in front of the sidewalk at the parallel parking with a one-hour limit. There is so much history behind this place that the excitement of the moment made the breakfast experience more momentous. Once inside, a young gentleman who has been working there for over two years now greeted me and immediately made me feel at home. He took my order and almost at the same time started making my toast and frying my eggs. In no time at all I had my order in front of me. I noticed and made him aware that one egg was missing. He made it right by frying me another egg over easy and I didn't mind because of his positive attitude and very unique personality. He also asked me how I'd like my coffee and prepared it just as requested with two creams and three sugars. Every one of the three eggs were perfectly fried over easy and I sprinkled a salt and pepper mixture over them. The bread of the toast was so fresh and tasty braised in butter. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. I'm looking forward to returning one day at lunch time to taste some of their menu items of which they are known for. Starting with their Cheesy Western, the tavern legendary trademark burger served with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, and a sweet-and-tangy homemade cabbage relish. Or maybe a bowl of their secret-recipe chili served with onions. Or their trademark hot dog served Coney Island-style with chili, relish, mustard, and unions. All comfort food that make you feel good and bring a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. I highly recommend this small, historic, eatery for a one-of-a-kind, memorable, dining experience.
