It is a peaceful place to hang out. :) I do have to comment on the negative review that was left in 2018. That is pure slander. Please notice that the person leaving the review is from Texas - not even from the area! He or she claims that their phone went off and made noise and then as they left, a police car drove by and the cop looked at them. And they speculate that maybe the librarian reported them. Maybe because they are black. Ridiculous. What this person failed to note was that there is a courthouse right beside the library, and there are a lot of cop cars in and out of the parking lot each day. It is unfortunate that this person took their paranoia and hurt a perfectly good library branch and unfortunate that Yelp could not even see through that.

This massive structure near downtown Spartanburg was completed in 2023 and has 340,000 square feet,…read morecontaining 16 courtrooms that serve the Circuit, Family, Probate, and Magistrate Courts of the County. In addition, area is provided for the many Clerk of Court operations including Sheriff security and holding spaces, office space for the Solicitor, Public Defender, Probation & Parole, Juvenile Justice, and Guardian ad Litem, and such. The largest courtroom on the second floor has seating for 241 people. Spartanburg County was created in 1785, though there were settlements in the area as early as 1761, primarily Scotch-Irish from Pennsylvania and Virginia. The city was known only as the "court-house village" until it was incorporated in 1831 and Spartanburg was created. It is in the geographic center of the county. The current structure replaces the fourth courthouse which had been built in 1891. The first three were in Morgan Square. There is a huge parking lot though many of the best spaces seem to be reserved for court employees and police. Once you do find parking, expect the usual security to enter the building. It actually is surprising that we came…read morehere about noontime on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the line to the landfill was at least 35 vehicles deep. It must have been date day at the dump because most of the vehicles were pickup trucks with couples in them. We even joked around with the attendant that we were on a date. Gonna hit up the pawn shop and the hot dog cart a little bit later. The personnel here really are very friendly and helpful. The line moved quickly and we got in and out fairly fast. No hassles and we had wood, metal, and general trash from cleaning the garage. What a great bonding time.

Desk to the left with books to the right at a diagonal. Had to print some stuff and was easily accommodated. Kinkos would have charged me $.49 per page, but the library charges only $.10. Plus I don't have to pay to use the computer. The system never seems to be able to print remotely from a laptop, which is a pain, but there are always empty computers to jump on.

This marker is along Main Street in downtown Spartanburg in front of what's now a pub/restaurant…read more It points out the history of a doctor who fought for women's right to vote. The marker reads, "Dr. Rosa H. Gantt. Suffrage leader & Physician. A founding member of South Carolina Equal Suffrage League in 1914. Medical offices located on Morgan Square." It is marker number 86 and it was sponsored by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation in 2021. Online, there is more information. "Dr. Love Rosa Hirschmann Gantt (1874-1935) is thought to be the first woman physician in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with her medical offices located on Morgan Square. Born in Camden, South Carolina, she graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1901. Gantt established a private practice working as an ear, nose, and throat specialist in Spartanburg, and was also involved in public health initiatives throughout the state. "As a founding member of the South Carolina Equal Suffrage League in 1914, Gantt advocated for women's right to vote. She was a leader in the fight for suffrage, having been appointed Legislative Chairman of the South Carolina Equal Suffrage League. In 1915, Gantt spoke before the South Carolina House Judiciary Committee to garner support for the submission of a women's suffrage amendment to the state constitution. "Although South Carolina suffragists were unsuccessful at the state level, finally, on August 18, 1920, women across the United States achieved the right to vote with the passage and subsequent ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment."
