I have been a customer for many years. And have been very disappointed in thier service. For one they have refused to stock their shelves properly. Forcing me to be sick all month. Because they refused to get some mult-minerals with iron. So been forced to take some without iton.Also have been taking the wrong vitamin C. Also because they refuse to stock the right one. Then when they finnaly get the mult-minerals with iron. They jack up the price to twice as much. And not to mention I had to stand in line for more than five minutes. Just to get the one thing. Because they refused to promptly open another register. They are pitiful. Need to learn how to stock shelves. Not Jack up prices to twice as much. And learn how to promptly open registers. Nice little shop with some hard-to-find natural products, such as fragrance-free shampoos and conditioners. They also sell some thing such as shampoo, conditioner, and liquid soaps in bulk. You can buy bar shampoo without packaging. Knowledgeable staff. The new location is in a new building with a parking lot, though the lot is a bit of a squeeze for larger vehicles. read more

One of my favorite places in Madison! I walk by on my way to and from campus every day and will sometimes just go in and sample nice smelling lotions and such. I am also often guilty of stopping in on the way back home to pick up some tea or essential oil or chocolate. The employees are super friendly and have great recommendations for any product you may be interested in. I get my prescriptions filled here too and the pharmacists are cheerful, friendly, and helpful. They have a great selection of lotions, which became much needed for me when I moved to Madison and experienced extreme cold and dry skin for the first time. They also sell Wisconsin-grown ginseng, which was a great gift to bring back to my Asian parents in California! Tip: students get 15% off every Tuesday and if you sign up for their monthly reward program, once a month you will get 15% off any product. The discounts definitely help because products here tend to be a little pricey but it's worth it because you're supporting a local pharmacy! read more

I have lived in Madison since 1991 and I've been a customer at the Comm Pharm since 1996. To say I'm a huge fan would be an understatement. Please allow me to explain why. The basics: the store setup is great, very intuitive. I never have to wander around wondering where things might be. It's clearly organized/labeled plus any one of their extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff would be there in a heartbeat if they saw you doing any kind of confused wandering. Products: They carry an incredible stock of pretty much all things you could ever need. Supplements? Yeah! Chinese herbs? Yep! Natural soaps for sensitive skin? Sure thing! Lube? Mmm hmm! Yummy chocolates? You bet! And the list goes on. And be sure not to miss out on Thrifty Thursday! Community Pharmacy is such a lovely place. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.They have a great selection of supplements and natural products. They also have a pretty good selection of herbs, tinctures and teas. I've never had a prescription filled there, but I'm sure that pharmacists are as nice as the rest of the staff. The last Thursday of the month is "Thrifty Thursday", which means you get 15% off your purchase. Which is a great deal considering their prices are already reasonable. It's been a really long time since I've been in Community Pharmacy, but there's a facial care brand that I've been wanting to try to see if honey will heal my acne (nothing else has tried, and at least if this is a bust, too, honey smells wonderful). I wandered on over and was surprised to find such a large section for personal care, including makeup. I knew they had more than just supplements and vitamins, but I figured they'd maybe have a small aisle at best. So wrong I was. There didn't seem to be any labeling on the beauty shelves, so it took me awhile to figure out where exactly to look because I wasn't familiar with any of the brands. The staff is super nice and helpful, though, so I'm sure I would have gotten walked right to where I needed to go if I'd had asked - I was having fun looking at all the products, though, and wasn't in any rush so I just took a couple of loops through the front of the store. When I found the face wash I wanted, it looked like it had possibly been opened. I brought it up to the register and the woman was happy to go to the stock room to find me another bottle. Both of the items I purchased were less expensive than the retail prices listed on the maker's website, which was a nice surprise. Community Pharmacy operates as a cooperative - their mission is painted on the wall in the personal care area and states that there are no managers or owners - things are decided as a group. Can I give 6 stars..? I love this store. It's always a stop when I visit Madison and hit up State St. The aura and aroma the moment you walk in is immediately welcoming and lovely. It's totally a hidden gem, because for this quality, these prices are really good. They have everything. You want natural products and ingredients? Done. Which system of the body you want to focus on? They got em all. Great options of tooth paste, and you can stock up on any essential oils or tinctures or the like; they even have an option to fill your very own bottles in the store. If you like words like Holistic, Natural, Homeopathic, Organic, and the like, then this is your stop. I highly recommend this place if you care about what you put on your body. Very sad to hear their business has been slow. I just bought 5 hair products, and it was only $48. These same products would be closer to $125 if it were in similar store in Los Angeles. My biggest problem with Community Pharmacy is that it is not open Sundays - I think this i just ridiculous and a very stupid business move. Sometimes the only day I am not working is a Sunday. I am sure many people feel this way and are equally frustrated by it. Also parking can be absolutely impossible sometimes. The other day I was there and the whole area was blocked off, no parking anywhere. Be prepared to pay for parking - bring change! Otherwise best selection of supplements, vitamins, loose herbs/teas in town, super prices and they give a senior discount plus the 15% day the last Thursday of the month. Also you can order just about anything and there is no shipping charge and they will let you return it for a full refund if it doesn't work out!!! Very well staffed, staff very knowledgeable and helpful. They will return anything with a receipt and sometimes without but for a merchandise credit, which is very helpful for me because I am allergic to just about everything so many times will buy a lotion or cosmetic and have to return it. read more

I've been having a lot of trouble with prescriptions here lately, to the point where I am almost ready to cut ties with one of the otherwise best co-ops in Madison, which will pain me to do. Inefficient, inconsiderate window service, similar phone and email service, many times shorting me on my prescriptions because they are out of things, requiring multiple trips, and how easy is it to park there? I like that you can get your herbal on while still getting conventional medication here. They know their stuff, too, and what to not mix with what. I was filling a script for acid reflux medication and decided to throw in a box of peppermint tea. The pharmacist told me it would make my acid reflux worse because peppermint apparently relaxes the stomach muscles. This place is so amazing! I went here about once a week during the five years I was in Madison. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and I always found what I was looking for (plus way more). Community Pharmacy has so many items that you can't find anywhere else in Madison. They sell great magazines like Bust and Bitch that you won't find in your grocery store checkout. They also have all-natural soaps, shampoos, hair dyes, and cleaning supplies. They also carry alternative feminine hygiene products, such as re-usable pads and diva cups. It was nice to be able to go in and talk to someone and look at the samples before buying something like that. I never used the pharmacy portion of this store however, so I can't speak to that, but as for the products they stock, this place is terrific! read more
