Love this store. Prices are amazing compared to other grocery stores. The only knock against Aldi is they don't carry every item imaginable like the larger stores. But the items they do have are usually much cheaper and of the same or better quality. I began going to Aldi just for their wine selection (which is also really good!) and then began grocery shopping there on a regular basis. It's my go-to store now. I've tried some of their beers and they've been OK. Like other Aldi stores, this one has been recently renovated so it's much nicer and better organized. For newcomers, it's important to remember to bring a quarter for the shopping cart and tote bags since they don't bag for you at checkout (you can also buy recycled or plastic bags there). And if Aldi doesn't have everything on your list, there's a HyVee conveniently located next door. read more

Great place to shop in the time like this. you can get European chocolate without having to break your bank. the place used to be pretty empty but now that economy went kaput the past year, I have seen a lot more people shop here. I like the idea that you use your own money to get the cart out and bag your won stuff . It encourages people to recycle the bags and avoid over usage of the plastic bags. The selections there isn't impressive but after a while, you will get used to going there and you won't need other big grocery stores anymore. We go to Aldi three out of four times. I love the fact that every week is different in aldi. They have special sales run each week and you will never know what you find there. If you still aren't an Aldi fan, give it a few weeks, after seeing the difference in your receipt, you will start to like it just like I did. :-) Happy saving! read more

Aldi is da BOMB. Seriously, if you are not shopping here, you are really missing out. I was buying canned beans for chili there recently, and I bought ORGANIC chickpeas, black beans and kidney beans for $.79/can. The same organic ingredients are $1.49/can at Willy St. Co-op and are probably grown on the same farm! I've been an Aldi customer my entire life. My mom shopped there when I was a kid, so I've always understood the concept. Bring a quarter to "rent" your shopping cart and return the cart to get your quarter back when you're finished. there are no abandoned carts in their lots. That alone makes me happy to shop there. Nothing gets me irritated like a stray shopping cart in a parking lot. Seriously. Also, you have to pay by cash or debit card. No credit here. All your basic staple items can be found at Aldi, and watch the weekly newspaper ads or get the app on your phone (from which you can even make a shopping list) to see the specialty items they have that week. You'll be amazed at the quality of the regular and organic produce, canned and dry goods they have. Their lunch meats, cheeses, ice creams, etc. are all fantastic. Oh, and I LOVE their pastas. The gourmet pastas have one ingredient: ground semolina wheat. No other crap. We eat them regularly (probably too often, but that's another story). What are you waiting for? Go to Aldi! read more

This is an older location of Aldi, and is thus a bit smaller than the newer stores. Like any Aldi, it's got aisles piled with items still in their shipping boxes featuring familiar-looking packaging that's just a bit off - many of Aldi's items are private labels manufactured by name brands. My main gripe with this particular location is the lack of organization in the refrigerated/frozen areas - instead of putting similar products together (like, say, all the ice cream/popsicles/frozen treats), they are scattered across multiple cold cases and fridges and mixed in with unrelated items (like burger patties and veggies). I know they try to keep stocking simple by just putting things out in the shipping boxes, but since they still have to put price labels out anyway would it be that hard to group items by similarity? If I was already over this way I'd still stop, but if I'm making a trip to Aldi specifically I think I'll head to a bigger, more organized location. read more

So glad I gave this place a chance. Aldis has changed for the better in the last decade. The adage "You get what you pay for" doesn't seem to apply here- everything is priced lower than you'd expect, and there doesn't seem to be any compromise with quality. Their produce is especially good. You can't really go wrong shopping here, as their "double guarantee" means that if you're dissatisfied with a product you simply bring your receipt with you on your next visit, tell them the item you were displeased with (at checkout) and they give you cash refund PLUS a free comparable item of equal or lesser value to try. Pretty amazing. Drawbacks: I wish this place was bigger. You won't find everything you need here. I suggest shopping elsewhere for coffee and alcohol (not very good here). Also, I wish they offered plastic bags by the meat selection to put meat in (ick factor high). AND sometimes their packaging on certain items break easily, but other than those things, I've been saving money ever since I started shopping here. Interestingly, it's the same company that owns trader joes, so you can expect some fun, creative food items at Aldi's that you can also expect from Trader Joes. read more

The new remodeled store is very nice and has much more selection of fresh fruit and veggies. Prices are lower but some items are the same as Woodmans. Employees seem to be annoyed just to be there. read more

OH Aldi, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways: Imported French soda, german chocolate bars, all natural ingredients, cool gadgets LOTS of seafood and steak. MMMmmmm..... steaks..... And PRODUCE rBGH free melk ('Sconnie for 'milk') pet food bird suet paper products and 100% juce. This chain is a multi store global conglomerate. They buy in bulk woldwide, you can access all their store options by zipcode and see the sales (COOL STUFF!) And as for ANY reviewer who is dissatisfied with the customer service.... well piss off lady get yo' beige ass back into your ford explorer, drive back to shorewood or maple bluff and blog about it. (that refers to any dissatisfied reviewer.... for the person who is constantly flagging my reviews..... please don't flag my reviews anymore, just go get some sunshine, maybe make a friend.) For normal people: This store is a no-frills environment, they have no phone, you bag your own stuff and pay a quarter (refunded) for a cart. If you want bags, they are 10 cents apiece, since a lot of Aldi customers come by bus, there are also $1.00 insulated and reusable frozen goods bags to keep things chill on the bus. The staff work hard and are busy making the store run. if you have a question where an item is, ask and some one will smile and help you. if you want your feet massaged and a fresh martini served to you while you sample wares, go to Whole Foods. I paid $125.00 and can eat for about a month o what I just bought. they cut corners to ensure low prices and no processed or heavily preserved items. It's like what the willy street co-op was supposed to be before the macrame armpithair gave way to powerveganlesbos with attitude. And before willy street co-op decided it was some kind of high-class call-girl of health food stores. I love Aldi, I hate Willy street co-op, in fact, I see a new yelp on my horizon! read more

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssss, I'm finally close to an Aldi again! Similar to other Aldi grocery stores, you can get way cheaper food here than other places. What really impressed me during a recent visit was the affordable salmon. In fact, the price per pound is as cheap as the salmon I've found at the grocery stores in Washington state. I'd say the one downside to Aldi is that it won't have everything, particularly in terms of very specific items, such as niche brand name items. I will say that one reason I love this particular Aldi is that the check-out is always really fast! There is one young gentleman who could easily be in the Olympics for check-out times. In sum, definitely worth checking out for most of your grocery shopping. read more

OK: Aldi is what is it (no frills interior, small selection) BUT the quality of most things is just as good as Trader Joes and the big supermarkets, and it is so much cheaper that I kick myself every time I shop somewhere else, then look at the tab. The icing on the cake is that they increasingly stock organic foods at prices I can afford. Suggest skipping their Mama Cozi's frozen pizzas and trying the cheaper Aldi fresh pizza in the cheese section instead. The one thing that I would go elsewhere for is coffee. read more

I love shopping at Aldi. The new remodel is lovely looking. However, i was bummed that they get rid of the bike rack at their store in the process. Very disappointing for such a bike-friendly city like Madison! read more
