I have been an International Hotel Group (IHG) member for a number of years, however my wife and I…read moreonly travel a few times a year. When we travel, we love to travel by car, enjoying the more scenic, less traveled, routes. At the end of June we were traveling from Port Huron, Michigan to the Twin Cities of Minnesota. The quicker route was through Chicago, but that route is a bit boring. We decided to travel through the U.P. of Michigan, a more scenic route for sure, and as such we planned to stay the night in Marinette, WI. The Holiday Inn Express in Marinette was our choice to accommodate our stay. Our stay was very enjoyable. The public areas and our room were well kept, clean, and comforting, but this was to be expected as the hotel was just a few years old. However, what really made our stay so enjoyable was the hotel staff. As our room was all that we expected, and we encountered no issues with our stay, we figured our contact would be minimal (Check in, and check out). This was far from what we experienced. As we moved around the hotel grabbing breakfast and bringing our belongings to our car, each and every member of the staff we encountered greeted us positively. "Good Morning", "How was your stay?" "What brings you to Marinette?". Cleaning staff, maintenance personnel, breakfast staff, everyone took a moment to be sure we were seen, and let us know they appreciated that my wife and I chose their hotel for our stay. As we enjoyed our breakfast, Sam, a member of the breakfast staff, took a few moments to speak with us, and made sure we had all that we needed. Sam even made sure we left with 2 extra cinnamon rolls for the road. On the day of our departure, it was expected to be very hot, with heat advisories throughout much of the upper Great Lakes area. We noticed that the hotel staff set out a cooler with ice cold bottles of water. The front desk staff encouraged every guest to grab a bottle or two to be sure they were properly hydrated. But this water was not just for guests, but for hotel staff as well. Each staff member was told to be sure they were getting enough water. The staff was being taken care of, not just the guests. As we packed the last of our items in the car, I asked to speak with the manager on duty. I expressed to her that we truly enjoyed our stay not because of the comfort of our room, or our enjoyment of the breakfast provided, but because of how the staff treated us. The daytime manager became a bit emotional that my wife and I really enjoyed our stay. She said the general management of the hotel had changed recently, that the recent change was resulting in a boost in the morale of the staff. Whatever has changed, the work that is being done in Marinette, WI. should be stand as an example of how an IHG hotel should be managed. I have rarely been seriously disappointed by a stay at an IHG hotel, but this was by far the best stay we have experienced.

They did an amazing job preserving its history while adding modern touches that make it feel fresh and inviting. Be sure to look up at the roof when you arrive. The food is fantastic and such a welcome change from the usual bar menu. Everything I've had has been delicious, and the prices are more than fair for the quality and portion sizes. I also love that they're always mixing up the entertainment. Whether it's live bands or different styles of music, there's always something new going on, so no two visits feel exactly the same. The bar is top-notch too. Great selection of top-shelf liquor, beers, and seltzers, and they don't water down the drinks. You definitely get what you pay for. What keeps me coming back, though, is the atmosphere. The staff and the people there are genuinely friendly. I've brought friends from out of town several times, and without fail they always tell me what a great place it is and how much they enjoyed the evening. The Lodge on Main has that rare combination of great food, strong drinks, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than you planned. If you're in the area, don't miss it!

The tin ceilings are cool. My only complaints are that it is COLD in this restaurant (they should adjust the AC) and it can get soooo loud. With a boisterous table nearby, we could barely hear each other at our table. Also: the first time we came, our server barely checked on us. We had to go find her. The second time, we had impeccable service.

Aside from never answering the phone, hardly ever returning calls, they didn't have a drop off date and time until the day prior to dropping them off and had no clue of a time for drop off at all. I was told I would get a two hour heads up that they were on their way to drop off, I got twenty minutes. The venue was a family farm and they didn't seem to comprehend that myself or my husband needed to be there for them to be there. They invited themselves into the property when we instructed them to wait at the end of the drive for us. Then after being told that they set up the chairs, they dumped them off and left. We were left setting up the day before our wedding, among the other hundreds of things we needed to do already. They gave us no pick up date or time when asked, we finally called two days after the wedding and asked when they'd be picked up. We found out they were on their way already-no warning at all. We waited for them for 3 hours and hadn't seen anyone. We explained to them once again they could not come into the venue without us there, they showed up after we left and took their chairs and portapotty and never gave us any notice that they did this. For anyone who plans to use this vendor, yes the price is decent but for the service it is not worth the stress and disrespect that comes with it. The woman who answers the phones, Megan, is also beyond rude and apparently incompetent as she can't follow simple instructions, return or answer phone calls, or have the common courtesy to give their customers a heads up on pick up and drop offs
