During the reception we were able to wander through the art which was a nice experience. And I don't know how much the Gallery had to do with the food service and all that, but it everything about this wedding was absolutely seamless and absolutely on time. The food was amazing. My only quibble is that the seating was super tight for dinner. It felt like we were right on top of one another, but again, that's completely minor. The grounds are fantastic native grasses and flowers. I just can't get over how wonderful the entire experience was as a wedding guest.

Our party of 3 all had different wines, I had a Cabernet and it was one of the most delicious wines I've had in recent memory. They have some oak casks in a display surrounded by flowers and grasses, so you are surrounded by nature along with music that enhances the atmosphere. Our server did a great job taking care of us. After sampling several wines, the flavors begin to blend together, making it difficult to fully appreciate each wine on its own. I understand not every winery provides palate cleansers, but many do, and it's a simple touch that really enhances the tasting experience. Even plain crackers or slices of bread would make a noticeable difference. Despite that, we enjoyed the wines enough that we joined the wine club and spent over $400 on wine before leaving. That alone should show how much we liked what Stone's Throw has to offer. Because of that, I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit it's intended--not as criticism for the sake of criticizing, but as a suggestion from customers who supported the winery and would love to see an already enjoyable experience become even better.

We both started eating it and we looked at each other and realized neither one of us liked the nasty taste of it. We both had a few more bits and tried to like because it cost so much. We both felt kind of sick and it just laid in our stomachs. Our waiter felt bad and talked to the manager who gave us a percentage off but because we gave most our meal back and really were not feeling good we did not want to try anything else. So my son talked to the manager who was not easy to talk to and asked for the two meals to be removed from our bill. He insinuated we were just trying to get a free meal which was not the case. Instead of apologizing for how we felt he would rather accuse us instead of making things right. First time to try this place and will not be going back because of the attitude of the manager. Corinne was our friendly, attentive, and capable veteran server with 17 years experience here. Wife ordered their breaded grouper with mashed potatoes. It went for $39.95 and included a traditional French onion soup without cheese. I had their queen sized prime rib for $44.95 and it included a cherry spinach salad and rice pilaf. It was a nice medium rare as expected and it was all delicious and filling for both the wife and myself. The dishes were quite good values when considering the portion sizes and the quality of the mains and the sides. I also had a delightful Wisconsin Old Fashioned for a very reasonable $8.25! Apparently they also offer a Wisconsin Old Fashioned with a premium brandy that goes for $13.50, but the $8.25 version was delicious and plenty good enough for me and it packed a punch too btw. It really wasn't that busy for a Saturday night and the food came out readily. It felt like throughout our visit this weekend that vacation traffic was not at expected summer peaks and the pro-tip in theory here is that the first weekend in June is typically not as busy as school has just let out and families aren't in vacation swing just yet. The Hillside Waterfront Hotel is not really an hotel. More like a poorly run Airbnb'? The basic functions of even the most modest hotel are conspicuously absent. At check in there was no one there to greet us, answer questions, help us orient to the area or even help us with our luggage. When we reached out for help via their phone number they were unresponsive for an entire day and when we followed up at the end of day our host chose this moment to make it clear she had more important things to do than respond to guest questions. Perhaps this kind of attitude is typical of Ephraim, Wisconsin? Other things to know: We booked a suite which turned out not to be a suite. Any seasoned traveler will know the difference. They told us they were in very high demand at the height of the fall season but the hotel was empty but for one older couple. Makes sense now. Talking of that couple we only noticed them because the lady nearly fell down the stairs backwards as she struggled upstairs with her bags. Only hosts who don't care about their guests would allow that possibility. The plumbing is terrible. The sink didn't drain properly and the toilet blocked on first use (Not our fault! We know how to care for older plumbing) and of course there was no one on hand to help us The house smells of mold. Old houses sometimes do, but it this is especially bad. Our room was infested with biting bugs! In conclusion, Door County is a stunning area and not to be missed. The same cannot be said for the Hillside Waterfront 'Hotel'.
