Easily one of the best attractions in the area and absolutely phenomenal for any level of bird lovers. Make sure to email them in advance to sign up for a two hour private bird tour. Our tour guide was the man and legend, Rob, who genuinely has a passion for bird rearing, bird knowledge, and sharing that love with others. We were greeted by Rob with a Great Horned Owl named Wisdom, later were introduced to Ginger the Kestrel, Amber the Turkey Vulture, and all birds in between. The birds get super excited everytime Rob would walk by or whenever they hear his voice and it's truly astonishing to see the companionship and level of trust between bird and man. Facility is incredibly clean, birds have multiple levels of obstacles and things to sit on, and all the birds have a say on whether or not they want to come out and be introduced to others. I had the greatest experience today at the Open Door Bird Sanctuary. Rob is absolutely a gem. He is a kind and gentle soul that made our tour unforgettable. Val, our tour guide, provided a great tour of the facility. We signed up for a private tour due to availability and the price was very reasonable for our family of five. We were wowed by the birds and it was obvious that they are well cared for and respected by the staff. It was a nice way to get into nature and the kids really liked getting an activity packet at the end of the tour. read more

Extremely friendly volunteer staff, explain a lot about each bird, both as a species and as individuals. They care for and know their animals. The shows are fun to watch and include audience participation. Price is steep ($10/person) for the number of birds, but you know it goes to a good cause. Expect to spend a couple hours here looking at the well fed and happy birds! read more
