Coach Sid and Coach Miles do more than just teach Jiujitsu, they instill values like integrity and respect, which the kids carry with them in all aspects of life. It truly feels like a family! Even though there are a lot closer options by our area, we gladly make the hour long drive each way because the experience, the environment, and the growth my daughter has gained are all worth it. I had the pleasure of training here for almost a year and it's by far the best training experience I had. I came in with a small striking foundation and in a short time i was able to make a lot of improvement and in the meantime started BJJ. Top notch coaching. But my biggest takeaway from CSD was the "community" there. Didn't matter your skill level everyone was there to train and have a good time. From the guys fighting often to the ones stepping on the mats for the first time everyone was welcomed and embraced like family. After trying out several gyms, I can positively say I've found my home gym. Coach Myles and Coach Sid are both high level and are amazing people. This gym is filled with talent. The coaches are patient and great teachers. I couldn't say enough about this dojo and words don't do it justice; something you just have to see and feel for yourself. Thank you for always keeping great vibes and showing us cool sh*t. Btw the music here is fire; Myles and Sid have polar opposite playlist but I guarantee they're all bangers. My daughter and I have been coming here for a couple months now. Coach Sid and Coach Myles run an amazing kids' jiu jitsu program. They're patient, respectful, and all around amazing people to be around. I know my daughter is in good hands and coming here is always the highlight of our day. The adult classes are fun too, might seem a bit intense at first but they're always there to guide the way and slow things down if needed. Being the only female on the mat was a bit intimidating but everyone is super chill and takes care of one another and I feel comfortable sparring or rolling with the guys. read more

I Love this gym. They are great with the kids and not only do they teach them excellent jujitsu but they also teach them how to be great human beings. Really friendly atmosphere! instructor Sid and Myles couldn't have been any nicer. As a beginner martial arts is very intimidating but I did not get any negative vibes here. Everyone just wants to learn and get better together while other gyms I have been too you had guys that had massive egos and would try to "check you" in insidious ways. Also the combined experience level of both Sid and Myles is hard to find at other gyms and you get to train with them directly in smaller classes which in a sense is like having a mini private with them where you can directly ask them questions and get instant feedback. This is what helped me grow rapidly compared to my last gym where we had these giant classes with one instructor but we really didn't know if what we were doing was accurate since martial arts is very technical and picking up bad habits is easy. This journey in martial arts has also bled into other areas of my life. It's made me far more focused. I manage my time better. It's helped greatly with my mental toughness since you are doing hard things even on days where you rather not show up and watch tv instead. It's improved my internal grit when it comes to dealing with adversity especially when it comes to business. Also my confidence is night and day, the fear of approaching people has greatly diminished since there is always this slight psychological fear that there could be a negative reaction or physical confrontation if things happen to go south even though most interactions never lead to that are subconscious runs off that synthetic introverted fear. Knowing that I can handle the very worst of human interactions gives you this strong internal feeling as if you are bulletproof and has helped overcome my public shyness. I know this sounds far out but this was a major benefit for me when it came to martial arts. The coaches, Professor, and Nathalia were supportive throughout the entire process. They never pressured our daughter into anything she was uncomfortable with. Although it took about a month for her to fully adjust to the training routine, Coach Curren quickly became our favorite coach. His calm, encouraging presence helps all the children feel at ease and confident during their sessions. Gracie Barra HB is definitely the adopted family you want your kids to have because they're absolutely the best! My family (family of 4) had a blast here! We stayed there for about 6 hours. We did the obstacle…read morecourse twice and rented 2 kayaks while we were there. Bought 3 food items and a gatorade. But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

My kid was able to enjoy the splash pad all to herself. There's an outdoor shower right by it as well to rinse off. The splash pad was interactive and fun. There are various swing sets here of different styles fit for different ages. There was ample parking. Many of the areas are shaded. The bad: We came upon opening hours and the gate wasn't open yet. People opened it around 7 minutes late. My husband and I were about to leave but luckily stood around trying to make phone calls for long enough that someone eventually came and opened the gate. The interesting: After an hour or less at the splash pad the button to turn the water on stopped working.

Community self defense is an amazing gym for anyone who wants to learn martial arts. Coach Syd and Coach MiLes truly care about their students and want everyone to be able to train, it's clearly so much more than a business to them. Whether you want to compete in striking, grappling, mma, or just improve one of those aspects of your martial arts this is the place for you. For the type of hands on coaching they offer no one offers as low of a price as them. The only downside is that because there are only a few coaches the gym doesn't have many hours. I have been apart of this gym for some time now and it is such a great enviroment to learn. Coach Sid and Coach Myles are excelant teachers and so welcoming to new people who want to give it try. Both of these coaches are very patient for the time I have been there, they encourage you take ask questions so you can get a deeper understanding for the martail arts you are training in.
