Coach Carlos and Coach Mason are absolutely phenomenal--they're not only knowledgeable and skilled, but incredibly attentive and engaging with the kids. They know how to keep the energy high and the kids excited to learn every time they step on the mat. Beyond the jiu-jitsu skills, my boys have gained so much confidence and discipline through this program. It's clear that the coaches truly care about the kids, and the environment they've created feels like one big supportive family. I'm beyond happy with our experience at Gracie Huntington Beach and would 100% recommend it to anyone--whether for your kids or yourself. You won't just be learning jiu-jitsu, you'll be joining a community.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu HB located off Hamilton/Brookhurst in the Trader Joe's shopping center is very easy to find next to Bo's Bagel & Coffee with plenty of parking. The studio itself is very clean (highly critical) is a bit small, but it surprisingly has enough room to practice the combatives. Coach Carlos & his team are very passionate, knowledgeable, dedicated and kind and have so much patience with newcomers. I immediately felt welcome and excited to learn the many techniques without any fear. There is a variety of classes & times offered for both seeking adults or for children and even a self defense class strictly for women called Women Empowered. Whether you've tried martial arts previously or not, I feel Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is structured so well that you cannot fail to embrace it. If you've never tried martial arts, I invite you to come by and do the 10-day trial to explore a new way of life. I feel even in the short few weeks challenging myself to learn something new, I've developed a quiet confidence. I am in love with the idea of self mastery and believe I will be a lifelong student of Jiu jitsu!

We're practically there every day of the week. Initially, we did try other gyms and landed on Praia. Why do we love Praia? 1. The coaches- each coach has their unique style and strengths and my daughter appreciates each coach for different things but what they all have in common is their devotion to the love of the sport and they teach in a way where they break things down so the kids can understand. They're patient, they make things fun and they show the kids how to respect others and the mat. 2. The owner Thiago, definition of a true small business owner. Literally building everything from the ground up with real values, hard work, and genuine care for the members of the gym. 3. Clean gym- they're constantly wiping down the mats. The bathroom is always clean. It's never stuffy or smells like sweat. My two daughters and husband go here. We love it for my younger daughter because it's a place for her work on her coordination, make friends and learn discipline and respect. My oldest daughter competes in tournaments and we wouldn't have learned about her skill if it wasn't for Praia. She's learning new skills on and off the mat. With the support of her coaches- she learns how to be a team player, how to deal with tough situations and losses and how to try again and again and again. I would highly recommend Praia to any friends, family or strangers.

You can really tell they take a true ical approach -- it's not just about teaching techniques, but about building confidence, discipline, and respect. Every coach is attentive, patient, and genuinely cares about each child's progress. What I love most is how they know exactly how to connect with kids and keep them engaged while still maintaining structure and professionalism. The environment is supportive, positive, and very well organized. I highly recommend Praia Jiu-Jitsu to any parent looking for a place where their child will not only learn jiu-jitsu, but also grow as a person.

We wanted to pick a studio that promoted confidence and constant resilience because she is a very strong-willed young lady. We tried 5 different studios, and to be honest, none of them stood out to us like GB did. Being the tiger mom I am, I want my daughter to try new things, work past her laziness, and know that quitting is never an option. I love that Gracie gives structure and instills a strong work ethic and respectfulness, which was a huge factor in why I chose GB for our daughter--the way they run their program, the way each coach gets down to the children's eye level, and how they expect children to always give it their best. The coaches, Professor, and Nathalia were supportive throughout the entire process. They never pressured our daughter into anything she was uncomfortable with. Although it took about a month for her to fully adjust to the training routine, Coach Curren quickly became our favorite coach. His calm, encouraging presence helps all the children feel at ease and confident during their sessions. Gracie Barra HB is definitely the adopted family you want your kids to have because they're absolutely the best! I recommend them to our friends all the time, and now another family has their girls training with them too.

A little over a decade ago, I discovered that kickboxing was my spirit workout. It's the only…read moreworkout that I always look forward to doing, consistently, over and over again. And movement/exercise is so important, especially for me dealing with young-onset Parkinson's disease. So when my favorite kickboxing studio closed last summer after having been my fit fam for almost 10 years, I was on the hunt for a new kickboxing/boxing gym. A couple of months ago, I happened to notice Title Boxing Club as I was driving by. I took the free trial class and immediately joined. And I've taken 24 classes in the last six weeks. They offer both regular boxing and kickboxing classes to a wide range of members: I have seen students to working professionals to retirees. And while each class is paced with distinct intervals, you can punch and kick at your own speed and at your own power level and modify as needed. The classes are taught by some of the friendliest, funnest, and most approachable coaches you'll ever meet. I think I've taken classes with all but one of the coaches (my schedule hasn't lined up with Coach Oleksand's schedule yet, but I'm hoping to catch one of his classes sometime soon), and each coach has their own personality and expertise, which they bring to their classes. Coach Mike is great with those new to boxing/kickboxing. Even though I'm pretty experienced with kickboxing in general, I find his detailed instructions helpful reminders to maintain proper form as my dystonia and dyskinesia try to take me down. (Not today, Parkinson's MFers!) Mike patiently explains and demonstrates each punch and kick and reminds everyone to be safe and to modify and take breaks as necessary. But don't underestimate him just because he's a nice guy; his class will kick your butt without you knowing it kicked your butt until after it's done kicking your butt. All while he's low-key zen-like congratulating you on a job well done and kindly reminding you to stay hydrated. Coach Marcus has a lot of cross-disciplinary expertise and stresses the importance of defensive boxing. In his class there's a focus on light footwork, slips, and rolls. Marcus also sometimes incorporates aspects of yoga and tai chi into his class, which is so cool to me as it juxtaposes smooth, flowing, grounded movements with the sharp jabs and quick punches of boxing, showing how strength and power can be fundamental in each of these disciplines which work well with and complement the other. Coach Diego is the ultimate cheerleader of the club and has a perpetually huge warm smile on his face because he's always genuinely thrilled to be there. You can clearly see how much passion he has for, and fun he has with coaching boxing and kickboxing. You can't help but to also smile with him; even me with my resting-workout-face, I can't not smile when he gives me a fist bump. It's especially appreciated after his super high-energy class when I'm wiped out. I'm old, he's young, and he reminds me of when I used to have that kind of energy. Coach Emmanuel is very good at pushing you that extra bit more than you think you can do. You don't think you can do it, but you do end up doing it and then you feel great about it. How does he do this? One word: "EXPLODE!". That's right. Whenever he yells out "EXPLODE!" you do a pre-determined set of moves in a quick, explosive manner at maximum power. It could be at 15 seconds, 10 seconds, 8.5 seconds, 3.141592 seconds, who knows? Or it could be back-to-back-to-back-to-back until you think your arms will fall off but you keep going anyway until you finish the complete drill because it was so damn fun and you love a good challenge and Pavlov or something like that. Off the floor he's got such a kind and calm demeanor and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The front desk staff are also wonderful. They greet you by name when you come in, are happy to help you with anything you need, and are just all-around positive and encouraging. Shout-out to Ina (manager and the first friendly smile you'll see most days walking into the gym), Cierra (she was the one who signed me up. When it was time to give her my credit card, I realized I'd left my wallet at home. I told her I'd run home real quick to get my wallet and be right back. On the way home I laughed because I realized that sounded like a stereotypical bad line to dump a business and that she probably was thinking "yeah, right, lady." I think she was surprised I actually came back within 5 minutes.), Abby (she greeted me by name the first time we met. How did she know? Is that a superpower?), and one other girl I saw one time I came in but sorry I didn't catch her name. They make me happy to show my face there every day. If you're curious or on the fence about boxing or kickboxing, come try out Title! At the very least, you'll get a (first time is) free fun and effective workout. Or maybe, just maybe, you'll discover your newest favorite sweat therapy.
