I went to hanover community aid yesterday afternoon. The young man at the counter (counter where more expensive is) was very kind. We need more like him in our community, in our world. He asked how my day is going. I said good then added a bit gloomy in am but all Is good- I shared funeral for my aunt who is 91. He looked at me and said, I'm sorry for your loss. He was demonstrating courteous and respectful at its finest. I work for healthcare and I did not hear those words from my manager much less I did not hear anything from him as for my bereavement day. The worst customer service I've ever dealt with! If you have a problem don't bother calling customer service, the store or corporate as it's impossible to talk to anyone . I thought goodwill was bad but compared to this place it's wonderful. read more

This store is a bit of a drive, but even so I've been here twice in the past month. Community Aid sets the bar high for other area thrift stores and this one definitely lives up to their high standards. This particular location is housed in a shopping complex on a main street. There's plenty of parking, it's well lit, and felt safe. Masks are required for entry and the customers/employees alike were in compliance. Organization and sorting is top notch and the store itself is exceptionally clean. If you're unfamiliar with Community Aid it's a massive store, about the size of 3 typical Goodwills. They seem to get the best donations. You do need to allow yourself plenty of time, especially if shopping for clothing. The organization is so item specific there's multiple rows for shirts, pants, etc depending on type. Sizing is pretty spot on also. They do offer different specials which you'll find on a board at the entrance. Do look for it! As an avid thrift shopper I do think their prices have increased quite a bit over the last year or so, especially for items new with tags. For these items I think they price overzealous as I've found them at or above new cost at times. For me this location is still a winner but without the thrill of the hunt because it's almost too curated. Sometimes I'm looking for a piece to thrift flip or make my own but if it's flawed in any way it doesn't make it to the sales floor. This is good for shoppers, but bad for people like me who shop for project pieces or random materials. Do be sure to check anything electrical before purchase though even though they're tagged that they were tested. I plugged in a blender I was considering only to find it made a horrible noise and had a burnt smell indicative of a bad motor. When I couldn't find a plug the cashier graciously let me use his. Most stores have a testing station somewhere obvious. This is one of several locations and I've been to almost all of them. Great store for avid thrifters like myself, or someone not familiar with thrift who wants to go straight to what they need and find it quickly. SIDENOTE: Closed Sundays. read more

We drove over an hour to get here. The store had a lot of stuff but was super pricey. The young girls working in front were very rude, just wanted to talk together and not show anything behind the counter. I make it a purpose to be nice and the young blonde girl wouldn't say anything back and acted annoyed when showing purses. There was a nice woman in linens that was helping me check some prices on items that had them removed. I asked the price of a jacket, manager came out and said she would be back with price waited 20 mins and the nice woman in linens went to find her. Said she couldn't price them without GM that would be there hours later. With the exception of the woman in linens customer service was awful, worst I have seen in a while. Store was pricey because it was Saturday and they didn't have any sales. Wouldn't make the drive back out due to poor service and pricey items. read more

Very neat and well organized. They do a tremendous job of keeping everything in order and a nice place to shop. The prices seem to have definitely gone up in recent times so I'm a little disappointed but overall, it's still one of my favorite thrift stores. read more

I haven't been in awhile since i live in Frederick MD, but this place is my absolute favorite thrift store i've ever been to. Much cheaper than going to Goodwill and i've found some great stuff. Overall 10/10 for a thrift geek. read more

Wow very inexpensive and very clean/organized! Will definitely be back. This is a great store. Everything is very reasonably priced and everything is very orderly and easy to find. Very light on furniture. But if you are looking for clothes, shoes, puzzles, games, kitchenware, or holiday theme decorations this place is your jam. They have books as well and a lot of them, just not very recent titles. So I don't get the impression that it's a big seller for them or that it's a big donation item for them. Staff was VERY POLITE AND EFFICIENT. We had two interactions with them and their attitudes definitely did not say they hated their jobs, which is unusual I think. But really can't get over how clean and organized it was, it was amazing. read more

So remember, it's a thrift store. You aren't going to get a Rodeo Dr shopping experience and if you go on Wednesday, be prepared for long lines. So why 5 stars? I've gotten like new Vans for $4, cast iron Lodge skillet for $5, and enough American Eagle, Hollister, and Nike t-shirts at $2.00 each to dress a teenage boy for an entire school year. Yes, you have to look things over, but that's part of being a thrift store shopper. FYI.. This review works for the Mechanicsburg and Lancaster stores as well. Back in 2016-2017 this was one of the best thrift stores in PA. Always had great stuff and amazing prices. Over the last few years that has severely decreased. I'm a regular and loyal customer who has been coming to this store for 4 years. Today I walked in and they have a fake Louis Vuitton bag behind the counter that is $250. I told the manager deb that it wasn't real and the price should be lowered. But I'm not angry that it was fake. I was angry it was $250. This is a thrift store. Not a consignment shop. You are supposed to be "helping the community". Over the years their prices have risen over 25%. I used to be able to walk in and get a pair of Nike shoes for $5. Every time I walk into the store there a no nike shoes on the standard shelf and they are on the "red tag shelf" and being sold for over $15+. It's robbery. A thrift store is for people in need and people who like thrifting. Not for you to make a profit. Hanover doesn't have a high population of homeless. But I occasionally do see a homeless man in the store and he leaves with nothing because their prices are way too much. Not only the prices suck anymore. But one day while I was in the store I was getting off of school because I am a student at the local highschool. I had my backpack on like I did every time before that I was in the store. On my way out of the store I was stopped and was asked to empty my bag although I hadn't stolen or changed tags on any items. Their excuse was that I "had went into the dressing room with it on" and that "they don't allow bags in the store anymore". To cover the dressing room part. Like I said before. I am a student coming from or going to school. So I have a backpack and most likely has my school supplies and a hoodie in it. Every time I would use the fitting room with it on. I wasn't stopped besides that day. And to cover the no bags part. Since then I have seen over 25 people walk into the store with either huge backpacks, more then 1 backpack or even a duffle bag. Who in their right mind is caring a duffle bag into your store if they aren't trying to steal stuff. Long story short. The employees like to harass you and they overcharge. And they have lost me as a customer. read more
