this is a terrible place. I had two storage units with them one of the storage It was trash left in the storage unit instead of them calling me day when I left the property they waited days later to call me back. Don't want to let me on the property so I can remove the trash so they are trying to put it on my credit report then on my second storage, which is in daughter's dad name I was making payments on it he was not letting me in the storage. They turned around and oh we can't help you with that because it's in his name but one of their coworkers stole my watch out of my car while my two daughters was on the property while I was trying to get stuff out of same storage name and was putting stuff in there. However, the co-Work was fired and all the store manager offered was the $25 off of my storage unit one time did he say oh well we're gonna wave this don't have to pay an apologize they just you know this is a scam just end it for the talk to no one at the corporate store. You only can deal with the store and the managers says they're on the property I should've picked up on the red flags when I first went and purchased a storage unit and it was another customer in their fussing about how they was just time you around they're going up every month and I still gave them business after the coworker stole my watch. It doesn't matter that he gave it back. It's the principal I was a a loyal customer. I give them business and they to charge me for trash instead of let me take it off of the property like I said it was raining. They did not contact me same day when it was aware of the trash there they contacted me days later. I never phone call from them so whatever you do do not use this company because it is terrible. read more

*Update (9/01/2025): Several months ago, I gave Compass Self Storage a five star review. On 3/17/2025, after selling my home, I paid local movers to move my carefully packed belongings into a 10' x 30' (300 feet) storage unit at Compass Self Storage. This move cost over $1,000 given the cost of the truck, and the four movers committed to completing this move. Brittany (customer service rep) was friendly and helpful during this process giving good information regarding available storage space, admin fees, and monthly rental cost(s). On 8/28, I received my monthly invoice for the month of September with an increase of $65.00 per month for rent, due in 2.5 weeks. I called Brittany immediately to express both my concern and frustration at the rental increase (I am a senior on a fixed income), and have been renting for less than six months. Brittany stated that she would contact corporate to see if (one time only) this increase could be reduced/eliminated altogether. Four days later, I have heard nothing back from her. Additionally, I have never received a 30 day notification of this increase, despite Brittany stating otherwise. Customers Beware: Compass Self Storage does not care about you or your financial situation. I have located a local storage facility who is charging far less for the same amount of space with zero admin fees, and will not be raising rental fees as soon as I move my belongings into storage. read more

They regularly raise their rates (their excuse being that they follow the industry 'norm' and they are doing it because everyone else does basically). They know once they get you in, after you have moved all your stuff in, you probably won't leave because it is usually too much work to move your stuff back out. Originally we had a very descriptive negative review of them that I posted while we were a customer with them, but when I called to see if they would consider not raising our rate one time (we had a few raises prior) I was told that they had spoken to their district manager and that the only way they would even consider my request was IF I took my negative review down. Since I like saving money, I took it down. We are no longer using their storage facilities. read more

I would love to get in my storage unit so I could take my boat out for a nice day of fishing but the passcode doesn't work?? I'm 200% that is my passcode that's what I use every other time so it's beyond me why I can't get to my unit and enjoy my day on the lake..thanks I'll give you one star because the only thing this storage unit has done is kept me from getting to it which means others can't either, good job. read more

GREAT ON SITE MANAGERS, TERRIBLE CORPORATE POLICIES THAT SCREW THE CUSTOMER. I'm a several year tenant (since 2012). When my wallet was stolen from my gym locker, I couldn't get access to my money. Here come the late fees... Worse, my "lease" was overlocked in my unit and I didn't know what day the bill was due. NO EMAIL PAYMENT REMINDERS!!! Even my cell phone company sends me texts - how hard is that??? When my banking situation was resolved, I brought my accounts current (I have two units) - but what I didn't know was that the next bill "hit" two days later (on the new, second unit) - and, of course, the online payment robot didn't tell me that! So, without knowing, I incurred - you guessed it - more late fees! The local, on-site managers are great, but they are hamstrung by the corporate overlords. So I contacted the district manager, who denied my request to waive fees. So, I called the corporation itself in Cleveland, and left a voicemail on the OWNER"S VOICEMAIL. To make sure he got it, I spoke with his secretary. I didn't receive a response, so I called the local manager, who informed me that my request was denied. OK, it's $45 in fees, and if I don't pay it today, it's another $25 by tomorrow. I'VE PAID COMPASS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS - and they can't waive a lousy forty five bucks in late fees? By the way, if one bounces a check at a bank, it's only $35. To review, the local, on-site managers are great. However, the corporate policies SUCK. They know they've got you where it counts, and they stick the knife in and turn it. UPDATE: The owner finally called back (which I appreciated). He explained that a previous late fee had been waived. This is true, but not all of the fees were waived - only one half of them. More on that below... I brought my two accounts fully current immediately after my banking nightmare was resolved. Since my wallet was STOLEN (not lost, stolen), I had no driver's license to prove to my bank who I was, so I had to wait for both a new bank card in the mail (which was delayed due to incompetent UPS personnel) as well as the banks' internal fraud investigation, which took a long time. I made my full payment on 2-20-16. Since my unit was locked, I didn't have access to my lease, nor any reason to go there in late February (it's 30 miles from where I live), so, unbeknownst to me, my next bill "hit" on 2-23. Bear in mind that this was a new unit to me (my other unit is a 2012 unit and I know like clockwork which day the bill is due). I did not receive a courtesy call since those are done four (not three) days before late fees "hit." So I was left in the dark, all the while erroneously thinking that everything was cool - but it wasn't. Not one, but TWO late fees were added - in ONE BILLING PERIOD. I mean, FORTY FIVE BUCKS on a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR UNIT????? The "storage industry" views these states as "consumer friendly." !!! How about "fair," folks? NOBODY likes to be gouged, especially since most storage tenants are in it for a long time and can't just easily pick their stuff up and move it. Here is what Compass needs to do: 1. JOIN 2016 and, like cell phone companies, SEND A TEXT payment reminder. If T-MOBILE can do it, COMPASS CAN DO IT. Easy, cheap, makes for happy tenants and covers the companies rear end in those nasty class-action lawsuits should they rear their ugly heads; 2. CHARGE ONLY ONE LATE FEE per "period" (i.e., month), for anybody, just like the nice article linked-above says to do (it's from a storage legal consultant, in case you didn't read the article). This is called "industry best practices." I assume the limit is one fee per period in "enlightened" states. I can only assume that if Compass operates in those states, it follows the law in those states. So, why doesn't it only charge one fee per period in the other states??? 3. REFUND my late fees (yeah, I paid, because another $25 would be charged tomorrow, when the next bill for this unit is due). THAT would be a whopping SEVENTY DOLLARS on a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR unit, IN 33 DAYS. So, Compass needs to credit my account on that unit, in the amount of $45. To review: my complaint is not with the Fraser store or its on-site managers, who are excellent. The facility is clean, etc. My beef is that, as a crime victim, I feel even more violated with these late fees. If the jerk hadn't broken into my wallet at the gym, the bill would have been paid. While this is not Compass' fault, if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd waive the fees. Some folks might even consider this "corporate goodwill" and helpful to the brand. read more
