Do NOT trust this place to keep true to the payment you signed up for! Not only do the increase it CONSTANTLY, but mine DOUBLED in the FIRST YEAR. Unit had clear signs of rodent infestation & wasp/spiders. I rented a 5'x5' unit 2.5yrs ago for $43/mo 2.5yrs ago. The monthly rent went up every month until I was paying $97/month. I complained once and the dropped it to $85, but guess what... It went RIGHT BACK UP. Lastly, the unit was not sealed & had a broken door. I came back to check on my stuff when I was in town & found my stuff covered in cobwebs & the remenants of a wasp nest. I consider myself lucky that none of my stuff was destroyed by rodents. I'm moving all my stuff out & canceling. Oh by the way, I see them advertising the same unit for $43 TODAY while charging me $97. Complete scam. Do. Not. Recommend. read more

Most of the higher star reviews look fake. You'll notice a consistent theme. They bring you in at a lower rate, and quickly increase the amount they charge until the only reason that you don't move your things is that it is a lot of hassle and it's easier to pay their increasing rates than to move your junk. They also consistently attempt to make you default and take possession of your things. If you need a storage space, find any other company. read more

I had one of the 5x5 units to hold my stuff for college this summer. This was my first time ever using a storage service and it was much easier than I thought it would be. You access pretty much everything except for the unit itself using wirelessly via the Public Storage app which. Once you move out you get to keep the lock that was assigned to you and your unit. The office staff are super nice and helpful and I was always able to speak to someone when I called. Overall, my experience was hassle free and easy to navigate. I never leave reviews like this, ever. I understand that people make mistakes. But the way this company has handled our situation is appalling. We began renting a unit back in February, knowing that we had a ton of things we needed to go through from my partner's dad's house following his passing. It's been a painful experience, so we've been moving slowly. When I signed up for the unit, I told them that we didn't plan to actually use it right away; we just needed to make sure we could secure one close to home, so that once we were ready and the weather improved, we could start bringing things into it and going through them. We had a whole, pleasant conversation about it. At no point did anyone tell me that we were -required- to use a lock or to store things in the unit at all times. Payment was due on the first of the month, and I made the payments in both February and March. At one point, I went to the facility in person to make a payment, and I had another conversation with them about how we hadn't brought things into the unit yet. Again, they seemed to fully understand our situation. Our plan was to start the move in April. On April 1st, I tried to log into the website to make the payment. It told me that there was no account associated with my email. I thought I'd mixed up the passwords, so I called the facility and gave them my information; they, too, told us there was no account under our name. They seemed totally confused as to who we even were. I gave them my email, my phone number, my name -- they had none of it on file. So we gave them our unit number, and then they told us that our unit had been "abandoned" and so our account was effectively closed. All of our information gone, like we were never there. When we contested this, they responded that because they found the unit "empty and clean," they assumed we had abandoned it. However: Their paperwork marks the date of the closing as March 31st. I had paid for all of March. Meaning, they closed our account -during- the month we had already paid for. Never contacted us at all. I figured it was a simple mistake. Someone maybe saw it & didn't think to check the system to find that we had been making our payments. A simple mistake can be remedied pretty easily; no harm done. But everyone at this company has outright refused to acknowledge this, or to restore our account, or to do anything at all. They are insistent that we abandoned the unit, even though we were -still paying for it- when they locked us out. They told us we'd need to make a whole new reservation, including paying all the starting fees. The property manager claimed that they called us; they didn't. We checked our phone records and our voicemails to see if maybe we'd missed something -- nothing. I even found no texts, even though I had signed up to get alerts. They also claimed that they don't have an email on file for us. And yet, I found an email that they had sent when we first signed our lease agreement -- so they certainly had it at one point. They told us today that we were required to keep things in the unit and to keep a lock on it at all times. But when I first signed up, I had a whole conversation with them about how I would have to get a lock at a later date. We agreed that it could wait, since we weren't moving things into the unit right away. If this is a requirement, why is it that I had -two- separate conversations with them, on different days, where they not only never mentioned this rule; they actively agreed that it wasn't necessary? An already-difficult experience, made so much worse by the mixture of apathy and disdain with which they treated us. When I pointed out that this seemed like a simple mistake -- after all, how can you claim someone has abandoned something that they're still, actively paying for? -- they vehemently disagreed, repeating: "It's not a mistake. You abandoned your unit." as though I wasn't on the phone, assuring them that I did not. A mistake is fine. The lying, cognitive dissonance, disorganization, & refusal to help at all is so, utterly not ok. read more

I don't even know where to begin - this is my 1st review ever and I would NOT recommend this company to anyone! I have had nothing but issues and their "attitudes" are the worst at the Auburn Hills location, that's even if someone there working!! I swear every time I go to deal with the situation, the doors are locked and most the time I call - NO answer!! I rented a second unit that was suppose to be a "transfer" that's turned into a nightmare - on the day I'm moving into the new unit, the new lady tells me I can NOT do it that way and had to pay full $ for the unit, which now I have 2!! MY hands were tied cause I already lined up a trailer and ppl to help and the stuff would not fit in my smaller unit even after confirming with a manager I could get bigger unit and do it as a transfer!! The lady was rude and told her I did not have time to stand there and argue about it, has ppl waiting and regardless I needed the unit! I then get a extra charge on my ccard that I was NOT told about, come to find out I got charged another admin fee since the lady said I could not to it as a transfer, again the way I was told before I lined everything up! I could of rented down the street for 100 less but already had a smaller unit here and made sense to get a bigger one, right- lol no, now I have two!! I got a text about a late charge and was NOT even there a month, followed by another text a day later that I was getting locked out and needed to stop in office to get in lol- no one ever there!! Got a late charge because apparently they bill on the first, I rented on the 21st but no one told me this-great communication here, glad they are wasting their money paying workers for nothing! I line up a truck to combine the two units and the door broke, had to wait for repair guy! I have called corporate numerous times for help, some kind of comprehension- nope, still waiting on call BUT I did talk to a lady (at corporate) that said, I should have been able to do it as a transfer!! I'm still waiting on upper management to call me 2 weeks later! needless to say , I'm livid and never dealt with any business like this- trust me .. don't rent here, NOT worth the headaches!! read more

BUYER BEWARE! THAT DEAL IS NOT AS GREAT AS YOU THINK! If you are thinking of using Public Store, you REALLY need to read this. I'll keep this short and sweet. I've had my Public Storage unit for only a couple of years. A few months ago I received a notice that my rent was going up roughly $25. While the rent increase was unexpected, I thought, no problem. It's still within my budgeted rate, however, I just received ANOTHER notice that my rent is going up AGAIN. This time $40 more. This IS a problem! That means that my rent has increased by $65 in less than a year for a space I was originally paying $149 a month for. Upon doing some research I found that a great number of people have complained about Public Storages rent hykes, expressing that you will ultimately end up paying 2 to 3 times more than your original rate using them. It seems Public Storage believes once you've settled in you won't go through the trouble of moving out and so they can charge whatever rate they desire. The storage facility is amazing, the customer service, services was wonderful and the manager was so amazing and helpful and very courteous. He made sure I understood everything he made sure to show us the unit before renting it to us to make sure it would work for us and he explained the rules and went through the contract with us and answered all our questions. Manager seemed a little weird, but once you get past that, it's all good. the aisles are clean, units are clean, seem well kempt, true to size, little chance of flooding. Security seems to be in check. Overall, looks good, and the price is right for sure. Easy access from either side of street, so that's good. But bring your own lock if you can remember, and check your insurance policy first. read more

From the moment I booked on-line (I was lucky and found a great 1/2 off first months rent special), to a follow up call with Jon, I knew I made the right decision. He was very positive, helpful and knowledgeable about the facilities fees, availability and my expectations. When I went to sign the paperwork & secure my unit, I was greeted by Scott, the front office clerk, who was very delightful & extremely helpful regarding paperwork - not to mention very thorough, making sure to answer any questions I had regarding my storage unit. After an incredibly stressful move back to MI, I found myself positioned in a last minute bind to place my goods in a safe and reliable storage unit....thank heavens I found these very helpful people! I was able to find a great 10x10 climate controlled unit in such a short amount of time for an affordable price!!! And the location is amazing. Right off the interstate -- very accessible.
