I know this is a very strange thing to write a Yelp review about -- and I wouldn't, except that I'd like to save the next person the trouble of not finding any valuable info during a stressful time. By definition, when you're researching hospice care for a loved one, you're in a terrified and overwhelmed state of mind. But as soon as you pick a hospice service, what you need is for that company or facility to do the one thing hospice care is supposed to do: help you keep your loved one from dying in pain. Compassus didn't do that for us. They're a "home hospice" service that essentially dropped off a bag of powerful drugs with minimal instruction to us for how or when to use it in the final days of our mother's battle with cancer. After days of her being in terrible pain despite these pharmaceuticals (and being told by their visiting nurse to just "keep doing what we're doing") -- we demanded that an actual doctor come to our home to assess the situation. This doctor suddenly re-evaluated the situation, ordered ALL NEW prescriptions, and told us we were "way behind" on pain management. The doctor told us that the drugs we'd been given were intended for breakthrough pain, not for the baseline of pain management. So... if we hadn't called and freaked out and gotten a doctor to come to the house after DAYS of their initial treatment plan keeping our mother in pain (their policy is to only have you dealing with their nurses and aids)... would she have just stayed in pain to the very end? Who was supposed to set up this mystical "baseline" of pain management? Who failed to do their ONE job and kept us all in the terrible situation of watching the person closest to us writhe in agony? We never found out -- even the doctor who told us everything we had and were doing was wrong, didn't accept responsibility for Compassus having dropped the ball from the very beginning. Do not use this company. Do not rely on them in your darkest hours. Go with anyone else who is available to help you get through the worst days of your life. They'll only make it harder. read more

My dad was end stage dementia and my brother, sister and I were unsure what to do next. We had him at home because he always said he didn't want to be in a nursing home. I called Compassus and they were IMMEDIATELY on the ball. They sent nurses, aides, a chaplain and a social worker. Everyone was caring, compassionate and most importantly to us, Christian. They prayed with us and my dad and played hymns on a lap harp. Everyone was so kind and caring. Towards the end, we were given a box of very powerful pain and anxiety meds to administer to my dad to help ease his transition. We felt, as a family, we were all taken care of, not just my dad. I would not hesitate to recommend this caring, loving, compassionate company to anyone. Compassus, thank you so much, for everything. read more

They provided a wheel chair, a stand alone commode and a very good air mattress when we moved her to a facility. The social worker help set up the move and the nurse arrived to help with the transition. The same services continued at the care facility and they set up the medicine with the facility staff and provided the medicine. At the end they provided a oxygen generator for her comfort. They provided grief alleviation and overall were as good as it gets. Have no experience with any other Hospice group, but don't think any would be any better, and probably inferior. H

She tells my mom ahead of time what she is about to do, she covers her with a towel while she bathes her to keep her warm, she apologizes when my mom says something is hurting but then explains why she has to do it, and she warms the cold lotion between her hands before putting it on my moms skin. I do hope you use Tortia in your training classes; she is a caring dedicated professional that can train new aides regarding how to care for their clients in a loving, respectful, and caring manner.

I can sum up my experience with Hospice Plus of Arlington with one word, AWESOME. I was hesitant to put my wife into hospice care but I had no choice since it was either a home or hospice at home. This decision turned out to be the very best decision I could have made. The team from Hospice Plus included Tamika (Social Worker), Minnie (Primary Care Nurse), Clarissa (Nurse's Aid) and Jon Mark (Chaplain). From my very first meeting with Tamika through my wife's end-of-life with Minnie and Jon Mark, I was amazed at their level compassion and patience with my wife. They not only cared for my wife but they cared about my wife and her ongoing condition. Not only that, they made sure to take time to check on me and how I was doing through the process. I could not have asked for a better group of people to work with during this extremely difficult time. To be honest, I do not know if I would have gotten through this process without them. I whole-heartedly recommend my Hospice Plus team (I like to think of them in this way) to anyone that is facing a hospice care situation. Thanks again to the good people at Hospice Plus and I will never forget the wonderful you provided to me over the last 3 months. Thank you does not say enough!!!!

From the first visit we noticed a difference in the level of service provided by Accolade. The nurses are extremely competent and they displayed a sincere interest in the patient as well as our family. They helped get us through a difficult end-of-life situation. When the patient passed, there was no follow up call and it took more than one call to get the medical equipment picked up and there was no instruction for disposal of meds hospice left. The minister was looking to us for direction on how to proceed. I would not recommend this hospice for overall compassion.

All of the people from this agency that I had dealings with from the social worker, to the chaplain, to the nurse or aids, were all so caring and compassionate. I cared for my mother for 3-1/2 years all while battling cancer myself. For most of that time it was very stressful trying to care for us both while holding down a full-time job. If I wasn't taking her to an appointment, I was going to appointments of my own. I was referred to Hospice Community Care by my mother's primary care physician's office. My reaching out to them was the best thing I ever did. They took an immense amount of pressure and stress off of me. I immediately felt comfortable with them and had such trust in them. My mother passed on January 31st and since then they've checked in on me multiple times just to see how I'm doing. I would absolutely recommend them without hesitation.

I never felt comfortable with the nursing staff. The company changed and the aids changed. They make changes and do whatever they want without ever notifying the family. I called and spoke to the DON on many occasions and she never addressed or corrected the problems we were having. The care this company provides is horrible. I do not recommend using this hospice company. The staff from the Director of Nursing, RN and the aids are not helpful or supportive during your time of need. They treat their job like a job. We changed companies two weeks before my grandmother passed. The new company was amazing and I'm sad we stayed with Alpha-Omega for so long. Do not use this company for your loved one that is passing. They deserve better.
