I was always against hospice because of what happened 20 years ago to my grandparents however we used hospice for my dad this past week and I had the best experience that could be had in the situation we were in Brenda Jackson one of the RN nurses was amazing. She came and helped me get my dad all cleaned up and comfortable so he could rest and the Social Worker went above and beyond his duties to help me, I just want to give the whole team a big thank you. You help me in a time of need and I will forever. Be grateful to you. I feel hospice has come a long way and it has a made a better name for their self with the team. They have working now again thank you guys for your compassion in this difficult time. read more

The administration with this company has been dreadful. The nurses themselves have been great but the communication with administration is abysmal. I was supposed to have nursing visits five days a week which were scheduled and I had no help over the weekend and no nurses showed up. We made five calls in one day and still no one showed up or returned to any of the calls. My supplies were ordered and what came wasn't even anything that was ordered. I clearly received somebody else's order. That was a week ago and I still have not received my supplies and the supplies that came are still sitting in my home. I called the Medline company as well as compasses and nobody has resolved the problem. A supervisor my husband spoke to was actually rude and basically told us to find help elsewhere when my husband said that if we couldn't get some response, he would file a complaint with the Department of managed-care. This has been so frustrating. Another reason why I can't stand Providence. Their doctors and nursing staff are wonderful, but the administration is terrible. read more

I have been wanting to write back on this review board that everyone at Compassus has been wonderful. Got off to a bad start in beginning because of a prescription misunderstanding, but it has gotten much better. My nurses Brook, Candace and Miguel ( not sure if name is correct) were wonderful. I feel like the care my uncle received was very good for the state he was in. Nursing was attentive to his medical needs and compassionate. They have a demanding job did things to make him feel better. They cut his hair, shaved him and even brought in an animal to pet. I was satisfied with his care. read more

My dad was placed on hospice care last month. Unfortunately he has passed. We were told they would take great care of him. They would attend to his needs and help out with anything that he needed. What my father received was the complete opposite. They came around maybe once every TWO days, and apparently didn't work on the weekends. The visits were quick and short, yet not thorough. His nurse was insensitive, lacked bedside manner, and compassion. If you love your family, do yourself a favor and avoid this hospice company at all cost! read more

Ochsner sent my mom home to die on "palliative" care, which turned out to be hospice provided (or rather NOT provided) by Compassus. It was horrid. Everything in the ProPublica article about Ochsner sending patients home to die on hospice is even worse than what was written. My mom wasn't included in their story because she died from cancer. Ochsner sends patients home to die to reduce their risk-adjusted mortality index and increase profits that go to the C-suite. Dying at home is not like in the movies. It's horrible. I've personally seen others go through the same terrible experience with Compassus, suffering, nobody showing up to help. Evil profit driven company. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I most definitely would. We were told by the liaison (Ms. Ana) the nurses would provide great care - home visits, medicine, run errands, help with eating, bathing, etc. NOTHING was done as promised. Do you know what my father received? UNLIMITED morphine, oxy, loazepam (my dad doesn't even have anxiety, suicidal tendencies, or panic attacks) and other medications to basically have him "comfortable" (in their words). It seemed like they just wanted to get my father high as a kite and go in his sleep. He just kept sleeping.... My father was completely fine when the liaison came and spoke to him in the hospital. He was jolly, in good spirits, joking. As soon as he started their care... everything quickly declined. I truly believe it's from the amount of medication they kept saying he needed. When I came home to visit my father, I immediately asked them to stop medication. I told them it was way too much!!! I just wonder if the drugs made him unresponsive, his breathing compromised, and if less was used he could have ate and drank and lived longer. Because, again, he was doing all of this completely fine and normal prior to the meds. I'm puzzled about his going from complete alertness and straight into unresponsiveness so quick. My father was in hospice care for less than 2 weeks. maybe 10 days. and he is gone. just like that. The nurses were not compassionate. It breaks my heart to write this review. The nurses are so rude. They hardly checked on my father. When they did it was the absolute bare minimum. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I believe these nurses has grown thick skin over the years of working in Hospice. Nonetheless, I feel becoming a nurse you should vow to take great care of your patient. You should have sympathy and compassion for not just the patient but also their families. The nurses may see this every day, but remember these families don't... When I spoke to the liaison in the hospital, I thought there was hope... My family didn't know about hospice. We thought we were getting one on one care and there was HOPE. If you can't sympathize or show compassion to the families or speak in a softer, sweeter tone.. what is the point of being a nurse? The only compassionate and genuine nurse was Ms. Gayl. I thank her because I can tell she truly cares for not only her patient but also the patient's families. Even if you said it was the end for my father.. what dying person needs this amount of medication? It's absurd. One nurse came by to check on my father, I don't remember her name. I think it was Sarah. She told my mom, he's gonna die. Who says something like that? No compassion. No heart. These people have no conscience. I called to notify them my father's oxygen was dropping. They asked what I wanted to do? I said call the EMS. I was told then call them. But in the beginning, they mentioned I should never call and to call them and they will make the call. "any medical concerns or medical emergencies, need to be addressed with hospice. We will make the necessary arrangements. Doing so on your own will incur expenses as Medicaid doesn't pay for both hospital and hospice." My father died the next day at the hospital. But guess what? Even after he passed and they knew! More medication was hand-delivered again!!! I am writing this review to let other families know my raw experience. I want families to understand what hospice truly is... I do not recommend hospice care. If you really need it, please do your research. It is our families' biggest regret... Home health is the one that tends for the patient and actually takes care of the patient. Hospice is a place when patients is medically determined they cannot do anything else for the patient at the hospital and their job is to only keep the patient "comfortable" with meds.. We didn't get a good understanding of this because when the liaison explained it to us it seemed like it was hand in hand.... we thought by having my dad at home, that is comfort. we thought by having the nurses come to drain his fluids at home, that is comfort. read more

My family member was dying from covid. The hospice sent a pregnant nurse to care for her. The nurses were afraid to touch her. They did not ask about symptom control or medication administration. There was not any monitoring of narcotic administration. Substandard care. No Compassion read more

It's been almost a year since our loved one passed away. I often think about how difficult the last few months of our mother's life would have been for her and us had Hospice Compassus not been involved. Each member of her team was so professional in everything they did. They explained everything to us in layman terms where we could understand what was happening and what to expect next. They were available at call any time we needed them. They knew what equipment was going to be needed and the equipment, meds and supplies were made available with no delays. It takes special people to do this type of work, but then it didn't seem like "work" to them. They were there to help loved ones pass on with dignity and give support to families. I would highly recommend Hospice Campassus. I don't know what we would have done without them. Thank you Anita, Monica, Linda, Sandy, Vangie, Erica and Chaplin Craig. You are the best! The staff was awesome! Nurses, equipment delivery men, social workers, clergy, they were all so nice and professional. They helped with everything. My friend was kept comfortable at all times. They answered all kinds of questions we had and were always poised to help us transition to the next step. They made a bad life event so much better. His grandchildren were able to spend quality time with him. They were laughing and playing like kids do instead of being told to hush like a hospital environment. His family and friends needed that also. I give Compassus high marks. I would also recommend them to everyone. When my time comes, I want them to take care of me. read more

We would like to express our deep appreciation for the support and compassion shown by Compassus Hospice. As a family we have experienced their services three different times and experienced the same attentiveness, care, and compassion each time. My wife and her family utilized the services of Compassus in 2005 as her mother suffered with Alzheimers and again in 2009 when her father suffered from dementia and cancer. Most recently, in the 2013, my mother, who had spent 4 years in a nursing home took a turn for the worst. The team from Compassus came into the home and immediately insured that my mother was receiving the highest quality of care possible. The difference in my mother's care was immediate and dramatic from the moment Compassus came into our lives. My mother was checked on daily and her level of care remained high until her passing. We want to thank everyone from Compassus for their care and concern. Everyone we dealt with, from the administrator, the nurses, and the counselors, was professional, compassionate, and really cared about my mother and our family. Started out great, but as time passed and my love of my life got sicker their compassion become less. The lady who come 3 days a week to bath him was wonderful. His nurse when it was her that came or showed on the days and didn't just not come and leave it on me because they felt it was ok was ok for the most part but you could tell had other concerns and just didn't have that "it". Things went wrong often and they never wanted to listen to me the person who lived him and me trying to tell them to please also communicate with me to make sure things are right due to the fact his mind had started to not be so sharp. Now for his last few days they were horrible had a on call nurse who was rude, nasty and had ZERO COMPASSION. Talked to him horribly telling him to do things he was unable to do. Wouldn't assist me with things that were hard for me to do because I was not a nurse. At any time I would try to talk or explain his situation she would just cut me off and be so rude. It made those last days even more harder and unbearable not to mention so unforgettable. The night he passed I assisted with so much I'm not even sure why I called Hospice Commpassus to come because they did not relieve any pain or sorrow by causing me to have to help with those type of things. All it did was now cause me to continue to remember those hard days and struggle to get back the wonderful memories we shared throughout our 18 years together. Hospice rep called but at the time I said it was too soon and I needed some time before I could talk about it. They said they would call me back after a few weeks and I never heard from them again. Please for your loved ones sake do not us Hospice Commpassus. Specially those last few days which were so important they were so checked out. Everyone at the house witnessed it not just me. So much more happened throughout the time to document it all would be too much. read more

Alzheimers had taken away my Daddy. My family had lost all hope and thought that the only option we had was to admit him to the hospital and so we did. We brought my Mom to see him and she immediately stated that she wanted him HOME!! Within one hour of a phone call to Compassus, my Daddy was home and sleeping comfortably in a hospital bed. Nurses and aides came in and checked on him quite frequently. They would take as much time as we needed to review what care Daddy needed. There were many nights that I would go home and call my rep and she would talk to me for as long as I needed just counseling me on why things were happening the way they were. It eased my mind as much as it could in the circumstances. After my Daddy was taken to his true home in Heaven, there were many counselors that would check on me to ensure that my family was ok and didn't have further questions, needs or simply someone to talk to. I even received letters on a monthly basis following the year after. Compassus was the most caring and was the best decision our family made for the care of my Daddy who had cared for us so much.
