My experience with Rick's machine shop was super expensive and catastrophic. The valves were all over the place, none of the tips were levelled with each others. They reinstalled the springs, guides, did not even clean them, and I pay almost a $1000. "I should have brought them back", yeah right of course I should! I tried to work with them and find a financial solution, nothing at all, "should have brought them back" that's all they keep saying. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY, it a joke... and expensive joke! And I'm not even talking about the attitude...

It's even harder to find a shop that has skilled workers with common sense and good training. Believe it or not, common sense and skilled workers does not always go hand n hand. For example, you might have a great skilled worker that knows how to do his job, but when it's time to think "outside the box" they might get uncomfortable because they need some directions on how to perform the task. Well I was lucky to run into DustIn and his shop. I called around a few other shops and they weren't too familiar with what I needed done (thread repairs on a 3" diameter) but Dustin had that "I'll figure it out, bring it over" attitude which I love. Not only did he get to work as soon as I got there, but he showed me how to finish cleaning the threads out Incase the work he did wasn't enough. I appreciated his honesty and his "let's get it done" attitude! Will definitely recommend others to his shop!

I was having trouble replacing the seal and it was suggested I needed an engine pull and new crank due to pitting on the seal journal. I called SDC and sent them pics of the crank seal journal. This is the cool part; they reviewed the pics and found the seal journal acceptable. SDC then went so far as to help me out, a DIYer in distress, recommending rotation of the seal and how to place the sealants. I was freaking out, they talked me off the ledge, they got me going again, btw 4x-charm-seal-no-leaky. THANK YOU, I hope to pay it forward.

He did a valve job. I decided to check the job and I removed the valve spring and the valves WERE…read moreSTUCK!!! He destroyed my valve when installing them - MORE THAN HALF WERE SCRAPED! My NEW valve and valve guide were DESTROYED! The valve and valve guide would have chewed themselves to death and metal would have gone into the engine. When I confronted him about this he said, "oh that's normal." Some were so bad after cleaning the valves and reaming out the guides it took them out clearance - out of spec valves will damage to the seats, cause oil consumption or misfiring of a piston. Then I decided to give him second chance (because he seemed like a nice person) and just lap (grind) my valve because i had to put a second set of new valve AND GUIDES from when he destroyed the first set. He put the heads in his hot and the floor that stands up the heads is falling up and not stable - at that point I knew I should have taken my heads and left. One of the heads tipped over in the hot tank and nicked badly - luckily where it nicked with a light resurface the head will be fine. While I was waiting he was doing a head job for another customer and used a warped reamer to clean a valve guide - the guy IS CRAZY that warped reamer can take the valve guide out of clearance. What bothers me is when someone knows they are doing bad jobs and just doesn't care because no one is there to see the what is actually happening - I WAS THERE AND SAW IT FOR MYSELF...SOME THINGS HE IS DOING ARE NOT RIGHT..! I don wish to hurt his business. "FACTS ARE FSCTS AND I WOULD NOT TRUST HIS WORK!"
