Comprehensive Sleep Care Center Arlington VA As part of a multi-tiered effort to figure out the sources of newly emerging neuropathy, my doctor recommended that I participate in a sleep study. A clinic operated by Comprehensive Sleep Care Center located in Arlington, Virginia is one of ten CSCC locations in Maryland and northern Virginia. It was conveniently located on a DASH bus route, and was open between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. I arrived at 9 p.m. as scheduled, and was promptly met by Winnie, who explained how the study would be conducted and showed me to my room. In advance of the appointment, I learned that I needed to be sure I had no gel or lotion on my hair - turns out that when setting up the monitoring equipment three or four wires would be affixed to my scalp, and gels could interfere with the study. I slept soundly until about 2 a.m., when I needed to use the restroom. During the study about 15 wires were attached to me and connected to equipment designed to receive data from my sleep. These looked a lot like the wire leads used in EKG monitoring. They're not terribly intrusive and didn't keep me from sleeping. I also had a canula for my nose, to register my breathing while asleep. All of these remained intact during my bathroom visits, and Winnie promptly responded to my call for assistance in getting me disconnected and reconnected to the box that gathered the sleep data. By 4 a.m. Winnie had gathered all the data needed for the study, and I was free to go. While there was a shower facility at the Center, I waited until I returned home to shower and wash the conducting gel from my hair. After working hard for several months to find a sleep center that accepts children, I had my appointment canceled 3 days before the procedure. The only reason I know is because I called today to confirm the appointment and ensure that we are fully prepared. The receptionist told me that, due to the pre-authorization not yet being received (excuse me, what?! I scheduled this months ago. You had more than enough time.), the appointment had to be canceled. I said, "Okay, so when was someone going to call me and tell me, the patient's mother?" She apologized several times for the issues and helped me reschedule. I then asked what the out of pocket cost for the study would be and she casually said, "$1,000." Um, that's a lot of money. Well worth it, but not something I can cover on short notice. Our new appointment is 4 months away and I am frustrated that we will have to go through several more challenging weeks of poor sleep, exhaustion, negative effects on mood and school performance, etc. Until I am told exactly why and how the preauthorization was not acquired in time and an explanation of what is being done to prevent anyone else from going through this frustration is given, I will continue to be wary and doubtful of anything anyone in this office says. Horrible experience with this place...waiting for 4 months to have a sleep study but it never happened. It took me 2 months to schedule my first sleep study appointment. In the meantime, they recommended scheduling an online appointment to see a doctor temporarily and he immediately prescribed some sleeping pills, which I never took because I read online it's dependent. I went to my first appointment at 9:00pm, and had to wait for the technician until 11:00pm, which passed my sleep time. After putting all the cables on my body, she told me when I needed something just to wave my hand, she would come in. She never told me I needed to wait if she's busy with other patients. In the middle of the night, I needed to use the bathroom, so I waved my hand as instructed, and waited for 5' but no one came in. Since I needed to use the bathroom so badly, so I unplugged the cable and plugged it back in when I was done...somehow the cable was broken. They said I damaged the cable. I told them I did not, I just gently plugged it back, but they insisted I damaged the cable and put in the record with my insurance. As a result, I had to reschedule, and it took another 2 months. On the day before my second appointment, they emailed me saying they had to cancel because my insurance did not approve it because I damaged the cable...stay away from this place. read more

My office experience at this location was disappointing. When I came to pick up my at-home sleep study device, there was minimal interaction from the front desk receptionist. The technician explaining how to use the device appeared rushed and annoyed, making for an unpleasant experience. Three days later, I came to drop off the device at my scheduled 11:30am appointment. There was no one at the front desk and the office appeared abandoned. I called out multiple times and walked around to see if anyone was there, but got no response. I then called the appointment line in hopes of getting better clarification on what to do. Eventually the technician I had came out, and told me they had no front desk staff. I told her I had some questions, but some of them she could not answer since she said that's something only the front desk could help with. When I voiced my concerns about the data being collected since the device kept turning off on me, she said she would have to download it and send it to the other tech who reads the data and they'll be in touch in about a week. This was not helpful or comforting. I felt like my concerns were not taken seriously and it was very upsetting that there was no communication from staff to explain the unexpected absence of their front desk staff (who would have been able to answer more questions). My first experience was that the staff couldn't be bothered to look up from their phones while in the office waiting to be seen. A simple 5 minute pick-up of equipment took nearly 45 minutes because the receptionist was just chilling on her phone and seemed bothered when I asked what the holdup was. For my CPAP sleep study there wasn't anything initially bad but after I received the unit I started receiving multiple bills for things I never signed up for and that's where the issues started. Contacting these people is near impossible. They're either out to lunch or you get their voicemail. All I wanted to do was stop my 'auto-supply' from happening (which they charge a ridiculous amount of money for, 5x the retail cost) and then I started receiving random bills from 4-5 months prior that made no sense. I only visited their office (2) times but had bills for (4) office visits and when I tried to contest them, they just kept asking for money. My visit was last Tuesday night, May 7th, and this time I had Gigi as my tech. She's another one who's SO incredibly sweet and will go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. Again, because I have a ridiculous fear of awkward silences I filled the room with questions about life, family, faith, etc. and like a champ Gigi took it all in stride. I did apologize profusely as I know this may rub some people the wrong way, but she didn't seem to mind one bit- I can only imagine there are some grumps that show up too. I had to have a titration sleep study because I have severe sleep apnea and they needed to see how much oxygen flow I need in order to stay alive... and asleep... and actually get some rest. After getting me all hooked up to the machine (and explaining the whole process which at 9:30 is probably cumbersome for anyone, but Gigi did it with a smile.) and the accompanying mask for this round she said goodnight and left me to the quiet solitude of my room. It took me a while to understand the flow of the machine and to get my breathing in step with it but once I did I fell right into Morpheus' arms and slept in fields of sunflowers minus the allergies. For the first time in forever (Frozen anyone?) I woke up without a headache, feeling like a billion bucks, and there was no longer a humongous elephant sitting on my chest. Needless to say I need a cPAP machine ASAP because my life literally depends on it, but I felt SO GOOD getting up that morning. Thank you, Gigi for your patience and grace. They wasted my time + insurance money on a home sleep study and now I find out that the dentist does NOT take Medicaid. I was assured he did -- they lied. My 8-year-old son was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea through the Comprehensive Sleep Center, and Dr. Shahzeidi has taken the time to explain the studies and answer all my questions. The sleep studies at the center were great (had one in the Arlington center and another one in Alexandria). My son was fortunate that both times he had the same wonderful sleep tech - Winnie. As you can imagine a sleep study is scary for a young child since they are sleeping in a strange bed and are hooked up with numerous wires and probes, but Winnie took her time to explain what she was doing to my 8-year-old as well as answering any questions we had. She was patient and caring with him. I appreciated her calm, knowledgeable demeanor with my son since this allowed him to feel more comfortable (and made this momma more at ease). My son is in the process of getting a CPAP machine, and I know I will have many new questions through this new process, but I feel assured that Dr. Shahzeidi and the Comprehensive Sleep Center staff still be there to answer my questions. read more

As another medical doctor, I am highly disappointed in the care from this group. I waited nearly a month to get my results (via virtual appt) from a sleep study, was suggested to try a medication and still to this day, 2 weeks later, they have still been unable to fax the prescription to my pharmacy. I have spoken to them multiple times and they still cannot seem to get there stuff together. Dr. Shahzeidi was nice, but seems to be highly preoccupied or totally incompetent. I am honestly embarrassed for them, will not return, and will be obtaining this Rx on my own through a family member. For what its worth, today is Saturday and I am on my computer sending patients refills for their online requests at the moment. Step it up Dr. Shahzeidi and company. read more

I was initially referred to this practice from ENT for re-evaluation of OSA. I was very pleased at first with the the initial set up of appointment/intake with physician and even the in lab sleep test. They called the day before hand to switch my location because they had a child coming in at the original so wanted to know if I would like to switch in order to sleep better. This was a nice touch. It was AFTER my follow up appointment that everything fell apart. I had several follow up questions that I could NOT get answered by a physician, the one I saw or any physician there. I called three times, left VMs and also received multiple email addresses to try; none of them responded to me ever. I even tried asking them when I picked up my CPAP and was told a physician couldn't see me to talk to me then (fair enough, it was in the middle of the day). I was only able to get my questions answered at my follow up appointment to see how the CPAP was working for me. The APP I saw for the follow up did answer my questions and was really good. I don't remember if she was an NP or a PA but was well informed and I was confident in her answers. Today, I was able to get a secondary travel machine that I was paying out of pocket for. I did get there 3 minutes late (per time stamp on my parking ticket) and then had to wait for roughly 20min to be called back. I asked the front desk about it and was told the technician was getting to me in just a moment but was setting up the machine to show me how to use it. She finally comes out, Airpods in, and shows me the room. She IMMEDIATELY asked me if I was ready to pay for the machine and then said she wasn't allowed to set up anything for me or show me how to use it and that it was all in the box. So 17 min to set up boxes that were entirely sealed. Got it. I've asked to speak to the Practice Manager, the front desk gal gave me her extension but of course, there's no way to dial an extension on the number she gave me. Called the normal number and used the physician line. Ironically, even the physician line had a long hold time but thankfully had the option for a call back. I did that option and got a call about 12 min later back. The gentlemen I spoke to was garbled but I was able to get across that I needed to speak to the practice manager. He put me on hold again for another 5 minutes and then told me the team had been contacted and that they would be calling me back in the next two hours and to "make sure I was available to speak to them." It's been four hours, still no call. I write this review as a customer and also as a physician. A physician who has REFERRED to this clinic for my own patients. As of today, I'll stop doing so and recommend other potential patients look elsewhere. The only reason why I didn't give this place a 1 star is because the sleep lab itself was nice, comfortable and the providers were good with a comprehensive and well written report (again, a plus for me when referring patients there). I have been a patient of CSCC - Arlington for many years and received great care from my physicians. However, my experience with the practices over the past six months was simply deplorable. I have a good relationship with my physician and he was the main reason why I stayed with the practice for the last several years. However, this year I needed new equipment, and this is where the practice really let me down. The scheduling and office staff are not knowledgeable about their own processes and procedures. It took 3 in-person appointments just to get my new sleep aid, simply because the schedulers scheduled me for the wrong type of appointment and with the wrong person. Their durable medical equipment department is not located in the office, so everything has to be conducted virtually and over the phone. Then the information they provided was different from the options my insurance provider told me. When I was finally able to pick up my new equipment during an appointment in the office, they didn't have all the right supplies. They told me they would ship it from their warehouse, and I would receive it in 2-3 days. It didn't arrive, so after numerous attempts to contact them, I discovered it was sent to the wrong address. I have been dealing with a new supply order for the past 2 months, and it still hasn't arrived. Most horror stories are caused by insurance companies, but this one is a breakdown in the customer service and processes within the practice itself. CSCC has really taken a nose-dive in patient care over the past 2 years. read more

I would not recommend this place to others. I had a virtual consultation, and the provider was completely unsympathetic. I did not feel taken seriously, and they gave short, oversimplified responses to my questions. I was then told that another staff member would join the virtual appointment to take my vitals and complete the consultation, but they never did. The staff member messaged me, explaining they were having connection issues and would call me instead, but I never received the call. I messaged them to let them know, but they didn't respond. After waiting for 20 minutes with no response, I left the virtual appointment. Additionally, I was supposed to receive information about when to pick up the testing equipment, but I never got that information, so I was unable to complete the sleep study. I had waited three months for that consultation due to long office wait times, and this is how it went. After such a terrible experience, I decided to do my sleep study elsewhere. read more

The staff was courteous, and the scheduling process was routine without any notable complaints. My biggest hesitation in recommending this is the facility itself. Although the bed itself was comfortable enough, I had a fan in my room that kept making a cranking sound, there was light coming into the room from the reception area and from the electronic devices, and the showers didn't have any soap or water pressure. Literally, it was a trickle of water, which made it extremely hard to clean up after the process. With all the goo put on my face and scalp, an eye mask wasn't appropriate to wear for the light issue and certain things are not allowed because of the way they're measuring your sleep. I didn't sleep well at all. Part of the process is that the technician will come in at night if one of the electrodes comes off. Well guess what, that happened many times throughout the night, unfortunately, which was even more disruptive to my sleep. I didn't get to actually go to sleep till almost 11:00 PM because of how long it took to set everything up, and I think I was woken up about three or four times between 11 PM and 5:15 AM. So far the billing is routine without any hiccups. I haven't decided to buy a device yet so I don't know how that process goes. In addition, the Arlington location is in a little bit of a sketchy part of town and I had to walk alone in a dark parking lot to a building that was locked up. Fortunately, when I buzzed, the staff did answer quickly so I didn't have to wait that long. It just felt creepy. read more

This review is not necessarily related to the center but more to the billing process to get a new machine. I has a great sleep study at the Woodbridge location and came to Arlington for my follow up to receive my new CPAP. While the visit itself was uncomplicated and went smoothly what struck me was the in ordinate amount of steps required in the billing process. I was given paperwork by physical technician, who sat me in a room and then handed a phone to listen to another technician explained the paperwork that I could read. Following the tech on the phone go over the forms including highlighted areas, I had to pay attention to, I had to wait a longer time to have the physical technician come back in and retrieve my paperwork. As a officer in the military who does continuous process improvement this is the most ridiculous process I have ever encountered in my 18 years of military service to go over how billing is done. It makes more sense for the physical technician to sit in the room with me and go over the paperwork so that if I have questions I can ask him directly versus having to talk with someone on the phone. read more

I had an official referral from my PCP to get a sleep study done, received 3 forms of communication confirming they got my referral and then had the person over the phone be rude, hang up on me, put me on hold and to top it off, someone telling me to email them with my name and number to fix it - guess what? Came here and Winnie made an uncomfortable experience a comfortable one. She was courteous, helpful, gentle and kind. I would highly recommend anyone to come to this center. The room I was in (pirate ship theme room) was clean and comfortable. As long as you follow instructions provided to you prior to the appointment via email- you will be okay and find parking/ enter the building without issue. Winnie met me downstairs after buzzing me in through the intercom after I parked. She showed me in and gave a small tour of the office to include the kitchen, the bedroom and bathrooms. She was so kind and calm that it helped in calming my nerves. You are hooked up to a bunch of wires- Winnie took her time and provided clear instructions. It feels weird initially trying to go to sleep and feeling like a science project connected to a bunch of wires but Winnie helped get me set up in bed. You are out by 6am and there is a bathroom to shower, brush teeth, get dressed etc. I had a few red marks later in the day from the tape/glue substance, but that may just be my sensitive skin! Winnie was super gentle getting the items off and using an alcohol wipe too. I saw another person who walked out and they looked free of red marks. Before leaving make sure your ticket for parking is scanned- it takes off three dollars, I believe. It was $11 for parking. I would highly recommend the sleep center and Winnie! read more

I was referred to them by my primary care for a new CPAP machine because mine is several years old. I was evaluated by a doctor and told that a new CPAP machine was being ordered for me. On the day I was scheduled to pick up the new machine, there was an issue at the office and my appointment was cancelled. I rescheduled the appointment and just waited 30 minutes for nothing. First the tech thought it was a virtual appointment and called me while I was in their waiting room-no one at the desk told her I was there even though I checked in. Poor service, I received good service as a client for several years. However, within the past two years their service and support has diminished substantially. I called support ar least 3 times to ensure that my correct delivery address was on file only to discover that the information was not appropriately recorded internally. It was very difficult to contact support for needed supplies or to report problems related to billing and ordering. I finally gave up after they shipped an expensive order to an old address and billed my insurance and sent me an additional copay bill for supplies I never received.
