This place is unreliable. I called them because I was having issues with my laptop and they said they'd set up a time to meet me at their old location on campus and pick up my laptop to be repaired. They texted me about setting up a time, and I told them my availability, and never heard anything back. This was very stressful for me as a college student who depends on their laptop, and this was the middle of midterms. This did nothing but increase my level of anxiety and I never heard back, when I was trying my hardest to get my laptop repaired as quickly as possible. read more

Good news: They did fix my son's laptop (hard drive) and when we returned the computer to them (for the same issue), they did repair his laptop free of charge. And the rest: Not on any time zone most are used to--especially if you need the computer back. I was surprised by the conversation with the shop--taken aback--of how I was made to feel that it my fault I was concerned with the time issue (this was after a month). And I could continue on about customer service--you just won't find it here. read more

Slowly fixed my problem only to create new ones. What can I say that sums up my experience with Computers By Campus? Communication was horrible. It took too long to fix my computer. I didn't feel valued as a customer. Careless mistakes (or lack of knowledge) were obvious! I went to these guys because it was convenient, after all, their name has "by campus" in it. I wanted to love my experience, but every turn made it worse. I'm not going to blame them for the things that were wrong with my computer, but if you read this, you'll see how this 1 star review is deserved. I built my computer with the top tier components 9 years ago. I've been able to fix all my issues until recently. I didn't know my problem, because my computer would just randomly shut off or not boot. So, I brought it in. I called to ask if they'd be able to look at the computer that week, and they said they just work on things as they come in. It was Spring Break, so they claimed business was slower than usual. After a week of not hearing from them, I called. They said they were working on it to go through all the diagnostics on the components, power, etc. I was surprised it took a week to start looking at it, but at least they were working on it. Another week went by and I called again. They ruled out it wasn't a power issue. But they were still working on it. The phrase, "Working on it" started to alarm me. How does it take 14 days to work on figuring out if my RAM, power supply, or processor is the problem? I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but I didn't feel valued as a customer. I felt ignored. I'd been perplexed with trying to fix computers, and I don't have all the tools they do. I kept my trust in them as a company, but I was frustrated with 2 weeks of no computer. At this point, I figured I needed to call to get updates, because they're not calling me. Throughout the next 2 weeks (week 3 and 4) and no calls from their end to me, I called again. They finally figured out that there was probably a hard drive issue. I explained that the hybrid Drive was new (less than a month). I said, "I've been wanting to upgrade to an SSD. Go ahead and order one to fix the problem, and let me have my computer back." They got a new SSD, loaded Windows onto it, and couldn't figure out why it sometimes started and sometimes didn't. This was the same problem I brought it in for. So now 4 weeks in, a new SSD, and no real progress. After 3 or 4 days (they had my computer for 4.5 weeks at this point), I called again, and they knew me by name because I called for daily updates. They said it was a mother board issue. I thought to myself I might as well have done a rebuild, but I tell them to purchase a new mother board and install it. They got the machine to turn on but couldn't get it to boot from the new SSD. Instead, it booted off the SSD once and then after that booted off the old HDD. On week 5 day 3, they call me (the first time they ever initiated a phone call) to tell me my computer is ready to pick up. It was finally booting from the new SSD. I get home, it boots from the new SSD. The sound won't work, but I start to add my programs and hope the sound will fix itself when I add new drivers. The computer reboots and Windows loads from the old HDD. They didn't fix that problem. They told me about it, and then waited 3 days and pretended the issue was fixed! I took a deep breath, refusing to bring it back to the store, and opened up my machine. The soundcard was not plugged in! I plugged it in and my sound worked. I went into my bios and changed my boot menu to boot from the new SSD. The two problems they created were fixed by me. Their slogan on the receipt says, "WORKED ON: AN EXPERT TECHNICIAN Costs Less . . . . . . Than Cheap Inexperience. Our knowledge used in getting your job done in less hours, SAVES you money!" I disagree in this poorly written statement. Your knowledge did not get my job done in less hours or save me money. It cost me $165 for your time (in addition to parts at a fair price, mind you). Installing my new motherboard and SSD was worth something. But the time you took away from me by keeping my machine for over 5 weeks was not acceptable, and the problems you created were relatively simple to fix. It was disappointing that carelessness or lack of knowledge were to blame. I won't go back except to claim a warranty if one of the parts you bought for me fail. Buyer, beware. I would not recommend these guys. read more

Was not at all pleased with the repair I received 1/2014 from Computers by Campus. My original problem: a stripped power jack. My problems with the repair: - It cost $200 - My computer was in the shop for about a week longer than the worker originally said (this could have been from the massive snowstorm, but was still annoying) -The worker I talked to said the work was not done on-premise, rather it was taken to "a guy" who would do the repair. -When I got the computer back, the charging was fine BUT the fan made a loud noise (think cell phone vibrating loudly) as if it were hitting something--this was a new problem I had never had before. - 4/10 screws from the bottom of my computer were missing, one additional screw was loose and fell out the day after I got it back. -Although I bought a new jack for my specific model and asked they put it in, the worker told me the repair guy would use his own parts gratis. This was okay, until I realized when I got my computer back that what he did was install a jack not usually used in my model, and splice the old cord to a new cord with a piece that fit the new jack. -This splice (already looked fishy/unprofessional/sealed with electrical tape and heat shrink wrap) gave out after 1.5 weeks. At this point I was too broke and desperate to go back, so I gave it to a friend who had initially been too worried about messing up the computer to try to fix it. He cut the splice open and saw that the two wires from the new and old chargers were touching, causing my charger to short-circuit. We repaired that with yellow duct tape and it works much better. That said, the man in the shop on pickup day (different guy) said the repair had a "lifetime warranty." However, I was afraid to take it back based on the butchery they'd done the first time, and the fact that I'd never received any physical guarantee of that warranty. All in all, avoid. My mother got a cracked iPhone screen repaired here for $70 several months ago and it is still working extremely well, but my personal experience here has been nothing but problematic. read more

A friend stepped on my lenovo laptop and it was completely out of commission. They give me an estimate the next day with multiple options on how to repair it. They were very knowledgeable and did the work themselves. They addressed all of my concerns and put the customer first. I was highly satisfied with the quality of work. read more

Amazing service! My computer wouldn't connect to wifi so I took it into the shop and they were able to immediately tell me what the problem was and they had what I needed to fix it, at prices way more affordable than Best Buy. I had to return the parts I purchased later, and they were incredibly understanding about it. They were extremely helpful and fun to chat with. I will definitely be using this business in the future, and recommend them to anyone else with computer problems! read more

Highly recommend you go else where. If ever I need a laptop repair again I would drive 1,000,000 miles before returning to this hole in the wall shop. They are completely unprofessional and unorganized. Not only did I have to call and inquire about the status of my lap top, these people "fixed" and changed things on my laptop without my consent. They also lied about when the repair would be completed. I can understand things taking longer than expected, but it would have been nice to be updated on the status of the repair. And when I called, I repeat, I called to check on my lap top and found out exactly what was going I expressed my displeasure and the owner had the nerve to tell me I was unappreciative. Excuse me, my appreciation will be shown when I pay the $200 for the repair. This is your job not a favor. Very unprofessional. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! It is not worth the headache. read more
