In my quest to spend more time in the city I was born and raised in, Comstock Saloon is another oldie that I haven't previously been to. The space right at the cross between Chinatown and North Beach is historic. Comstock serves classic cocktails, beer, wine and food. There is even live music most nights. This review is only for cocktails as we stopped here for an after-dinner drink. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server brought us water as soon as we sat down and came to take our order shortly after. I got a gin martini and really enjoyed it.

What an amazing spot for cocktails and food if you get there early enough. Drinks take time cause they're made with care and it comes across. Patience is a must friends. Love the ambiance and I'd recommend checking out the back bar as well. Much more cozy and intimate.

Amazing historic bar and restaurant dating back to early the 1900's. The vibe is Gold Rush vintage with dark wood decor and live music on certain nights. I'm not saying this place feels haunted, but... We had dinner reservations elsewhere, so we focused on the cocktails. Sat at the end of the bar and my bar stool was literally next to the top of the steepest staircase that descended down into the bowels of the underground. There's a small wooden gate that separated me from the staircase, thus avoiding a complete panic attack. THE DRUNK DRINKS. - Cherry Bounce. Slightly bitter, but sweet with cherry flavors. - South Side. Refreshingly minty, bright, and crisp. - Old Fashioned. Ordered with Woodford Reserve. Smooth with a citrus flare. - Barkeep's Whimsy. Bartender's choice, ours was similar to a mint julep. - Sazerac. Strong straight up drink; rye whiskey with licorice absinthe undertones. - Enterprise Pale Ale. Non-hoppy and more on the bubbly side. THE PARKING. Street parking. We lucked out and found a spot around the corner. Parking fee was paid through a parking app. THE RETURN? Yeah, this place was real chill and the drinks were strong.

This place deserves 4.5 stars This was the third time I have been to Comstock. I come here with my colleagues every time I visit San Francisco. I love the ambiance. The space is well laid out with comfy seating, a large bar and live jazz. It has all the ingredients for a great night. The servers are always great. Despite it being busy and crowded, you get prompt, courteous and helpful service. Let's get to the meat and potatoes. The mixologists behind the bar can make some AMAZING cocktails. I unfortunately don't have an off switch when I come here...LOL. I had SEVERAL of these martinis called the Jonny's Martini. I thought it was FABULOUS. If you haven't been here, you are doing yourself a complete disservice.

They didn't have it on the menu but Kendra was able to make a delicious passion fruit martini, love her and love this place!

Very capable bartender, Kendra, was able to accommodate exactly what we wanted even off menu. Great atmosphere, great bartender, great spot!

One day during my trip, I almost made back to my hotel after a day that involved lots of walking, so yes a drink with some live music is exactly what I needed to end my day. This place looked cool and had someone singing and playing the piano. I had a glass of delicious Spanish white wine and a glass of Argentinian Malbec as I soaked up some cool live Jazz music. The staff is friendly and will tell some of the storied past the place and neighborhood have had, if you ask.

My husband, cousin, and I had some food and a drink each before heading to a club nearby. We ordered food to share, which were the Truffled Artichoke Dip, Fried Brussels Sprouts, Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Dates, and Charcuterie Board. The Artichoke Dip and Brussels Sprouts were my favorite. The dates were good. We were a bit disappointed that the charcuterie had meat but no cheeses. I like boards that come with both (instead of being two separate items on the menu). I had the Shanghai Buck and would order it again. The ambiance is dark and swanky. There was live music but it stopped when we sat down. We had an older gentleman waiter who was very nice and quick with service. I'd come back for another drink or bite to eat!

Lovely spot on Columbus down the street from a few other bars. Have a good sized menu of cocktails, mocktails, beers, wines etc. There is a cocktail option that's bartenders choice which is fun! Nice atmosphere with a live band

We met our in-laws at Comstock Saloon for an early dinner / happy hour. They were in town for the Grateful Dead concert at Oracle Park. We had a group of 11 so they found a couple of tables in the back just below the piano player upstairs. Lots of drinks going around and every one complimented the tasty cocktails. I had a Reality Check Pilsner beer. The food menu was eclectic and we had the following items: Comstock Burger & Fries 3/5 husk ok $21 Skirt steak with chimichurri 4/5 Oysters 4/5 $3.50 each Salmon and potato puffs 3/5 Donuts with ice cream 5/5 had to order a couple more best item The Comstock Saloon is located near the corner of Columbus and Kearney. It's filled with wooden booths. Service was ok. The nearest parking lot is Portsmouth garage.

This place has that perfect North Beach neighborhood bar chill and welcoming vibe, like a classy dive where you can watch the game or just chat for hours. The cocktails are next level: tried a few that tasted like grown-up root beer floats and Orange Julius vibes, super creative and balanced without being too sweet. They've got solid classics too if you're not feeling adventurous. Walls are covered in cool local SF photos and art that make it feel proudly San Franciscan. Only street parking available but there's plenty of bus lines that drop you off in ths neighborhood & there's no food served onsite, but they brought in complimentary Golden Boy pizza for the game watch party which quickly went into my stomach after downing a few cocktails. Staff was friendly and on point, and it's great for locals or anyone wanting elevated drinks without the pretension. Perfect pre-dinner spot in North Beach or for a full night out.

It wasn't just pre-pandemic, it was when north beach was uber community oriented. *sigh* Those days may be gone, but petite lil's is filling that sense of community void rather nicely. As soon as we walked in, we perched ourselves at the bar, & we were made to feel nothing but welcome. I had H with me, & she & I tend to do that thing where we "don't know" what we should order, as if we've never been to a bar before, even though god knows, we have. We are many things, but ingénues are not one of them. No doubt it would be a tired game for a bartender lacking in prowess, personality, & patience. Fortunately for us, you won't find that kind of bartender here. Because we are not ingénues, our days of ordering silly things (fireball), "insider" things (green chartreuse, fernet), or just stupid things (fireball) are happily behind us. We are Napa Valley & wine lovers so of course we naturally default to wine. Another truth that makes that initial game of "what should we get" so ridiculous. After carefully perusing the impressive menu, we did order wine, but we noted the martini and Negroni options. Hungry? The menu is full of stellar options; caviar, oysters (both raw or broiled), steak frites, charcuterie...even French omelettes. They do a "booth steak," a 32oz tomahawk! $99 (limit only 2 per night). We had such a great time, instead of meeting up with my husband elsewhere when he got off work as planned, we had him join us here. I saw his face light up when he saw that tomahawk on the menu so needless to say it's now on the list. It's a huge space (always was), so it's perfect for a night out w all your peeps, & any game day/night. It was our first time, but we were treated like we've been here a hundred times. Everyone was. Incredible menu. Great vibe. We will be back for dinner and... everything. 5 stars
