I visited The View Lounge on a random Monday night and was surprised by how busy it was. The lounge was packed, so be prepared to wait a bit for seating since it's first come, first served. You can order drinks directly at the bar or find an open seat and have a server take your order. It took us about 10 minutes of walking around before we finally found a table. Although the service was a little slow at first because of how busy it was, once we were helped, the experience was excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. The food is definitely on the pricier side, but it's well worth it. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the martinis were especially impressive. If you're looking for a relaxing spot with breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline, The View Lounge is a great choice. My partner brought me here on Saturday. We arrived around 6:30 and had no trouble getting a table with a view. Service as great, friendly and quick! Servers were frequently walking around attending to all the tables. We loved everything we ate except the tuna ( we didn't like the sauce) the tuna was great we just didn't like the sauce For drinks we had the Garden Fizz, Paloma, and Lycheetini. All wonderful For food we had : charcuterie board, prawn cocktail ( HUGE prawns and my second favorite dish), ahi tuna tataki, chicken adobo tacos and the Prosciutto flatbread ( my favorite!) The View is a beautiful bar at the top of the Marriott Marquis. It has incredible 360 views of the city and a gorgeous interior to add to the vibes. It was seat yourself and we found cozy lounge seating overlooking the city at sunset. I definitely recommend sunset, but any time would be spectacular! While we easily found a seat, I could see it being busy. Service was quick. We each ordered a cocktail and the tuna tataki. The cocktails were great and the tuna was delicious and a solid portion size. While it is pricy, it's worth it for the experience. Even having lived in the bay most of my life, the view at this spot is breathtaking. It's a must see just for that. That aside, wonderful service - the best people. Absolutely delicious house special martini (with blue cheese olives of course). Snack trio, chips and dip, scallops, heirloom tomato salad (I got a shrimp cocktail and asked them to top the salad with it) all delightful. A good standby if you don't want to DoorDash at this hotel too (no room service). Only thing I wouldn't recommend is the sliders - the pretzel buns were a little tough, like they spent a bit too long in the freezer. read more

While pricey, the views are immaculate and the staff top notch making this a great spot if you're in SOMA. I stayed at the Mariott so it was very convenient to pop up to the top floor one of the nights of my stay and I'm so glad I did. I recommend getting there early to get a coveted window seat and try and stay for sunset - gorgeous views even on a cloudy day. The potato chips with onion dip are also a must try and I really enjoyed the lychee martini, though I did swap gin for the vodka it normally comes with. read more

Absolutely stunning views of SF! I am so happy I spent a little time over at The View Lounge. Arrived at around 7pm and the place was happening in a weeknight! Honestly, I felt a little underdressed since everyone seemed so dashing and out together. I'll know that for next time. Sat right at the bar and TBH I felt like Batman peering over Gotham City. The views here are unmatched and the vibes inside are so swanky. For food, my latest obsession has been tuna, so I opted for the tuna Tataki. It's my second time here and the view lounge does not disappoint with it comes to VIEW of the city . Food is good . although could be presented in a more an appealing way. I like personally like the scallops and the cheese charcuterie Pretty pricey ( I guess your paying for the "view " ) - for a dinner date but if you have friends and you're there to have some appetizers and a few drinks , split the cost it's okey. Then there is lots of POPO's (Privately Owned Public Open Spaces) in SF. Although there are lots of rooftops are popping up through San Francisco but ask yourself a question: Can you stand the rain ? If you want somewhere that is cozy and dry during the cuffing season there are some that are indoors places with a big beautiful aerial view of the San Francisco high rises and landscape. There is Top of the Mark and the Starlite along with City Scape Sky Bar at the Hilton in San Francisco. Another indoor place and hotel with an aerial view of San Francisco is inside the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Mission street on the 39th floor called the View Lounge. I usually come here as a pit stop for next place and sometimes I stay throughout midnight. I like when they have live music and it's more like a lounge to enjoy the city lights with a view from above and to witness the big beautiful view of the San Francisco skyline. They have couches and sofa like seating area with pillows to get cozy. They also have food available with dishes like chicken adobo tacos and dessert with Matcha cake. The drinks here are good and I usually grab a few glasses of wine and top it off with some champagne. Gorgeous, unbeatable views of the city. And to our surprise, the food was also undeniably delicious! We ordered the tacos, sliders, potato chips, olives, and mushroom flatbread--all of them were a hit! The potato chips were absolutely addicting and we couldn't stop reaching for them. Came here to bring in my birthday earlier this month. If you are in SF and LOVE high rises/rooftops, this is def the place to go too.. if you're staying in the marriott, you have a chance to get their early and get a good spot!! This place does not do Reservations or anything special on special events. The ambience itself does it all. Placed on the 39th floor, this dome shaped spectacle does wonders for your dates nights and special occasions. We were extremely lucky enough to get a spot by the window... Dont expect any over the top fancy drinks, they have the classics, but, what you pay for is the experience and the view! The service was prompt and swift, also it closes by 11:30pm offlate. I always love a visit to the view for a great cocktail and amazing views! This place holds a special place in my heart - we had cocktails here on our first date and now we are about to celebrate 25 years married! We have brought our kids here and we came here the weekend we dropped our daughter off for college - now we brought her to enjoy cocktails as she starts her senior year! We enjoyed their Lychee martini / which I meant to get last time so finally tried it and it's great! Also loved our view - we were sat at the back which offers epic views of Alcatraz which I was never aware of - then, thanks to the amazing server we had - Eva - we got city views when she came to let us know a table was available! Came here after dinner to grab a drink and there was a decent crowd. There's plenty of seating, but all the areas by the window were taken and we grabbed a high top table. We tried the lycheetini and the mission paloma. The lycheetini was perfectly balanced, light, and super refreshing! The lychee garnish is always my favorite I really enjoyed the ambiance, and how everything was dimmed. The view paired with delicious drinks was a great after dinner treat after our anniversary dinner nearby. The drinks are pricey, but I think that comes with the territory. It was our first time at the view lounge, Marriott marquis. We went on an early Sunday evening and we were fortunate to get a nice window table. The view of the city is spectacular! We ordered a gin martini and Expresso martini, it tasted so good. We also ordered bread and butter, adobo chicken tacos, heirloom tomato salad, potato chips with scallion dip, it was all delicious. It's located in the Marriott Hotel on the top floor. Follow the elevators and go the the top floor. They check you in with your ID as it's a 21+ bar. There's seating around the bar as well as a few tables right next to the windows. There's are other sections for seating including couch seating where servers come to you. They offer light bites until 10:00pm. I ordered a lychee martini and it was just as I expected. I tasted the espresso martini and it was perfect! Beautiful view. Loved everything here. They don't take reservation and only take walk-ins. We came here on Friday after 9 pm and only had to wait 10-15 mins before finding a great spot to be seated. The View Lounge has pretty much become my go-to pre-show ritual. I've been here a few times now before catching shows at the Orpheum or Golden Gate Theatre -- and honestly, it just sets the mood right every time. You enter through the lobby, take the elevator to the 39th floor, and boom -- you're instantly hit with this beautiful ass view. The giant arched window makes the whole city look like a postcard. Great place to chill, date night or a simple gathering. We went here both nights for drinks. One when we first got in and the other after the nuptials of our friends. Look lots of photos here. Nightlife views were perfect I can only imagine how it looked during the day! You do have to walk around because it is self seating you have to find an open table with a view.. we definitely would come back here. The service was nice. SF staple & must visit for those who have never been, BC as per the name, THE VIEW is def. well worth it...esp. during sunsets and or late nights. The mood and whole vibe of this place is beautiful...it is casual yet still a bit upscale, lively without being too loud, & romantic but still perf. for girl catchups and or singles grabbing a quick drink. Most times I visited was in the evening and only for cocktails, on these occasions - it is mainly self serve where you order at the bar then find a seat. Recently though, I came here for HH with a friend and was seated on one of the main room tables near the window. We received table service - our waitress kindly took our order and brought out our food/drinks. In the end, as beautiful as the view was - unfortunately, my mouth and tummy was still left unsatisfied. By all means, nothing was particularly bad, but for the price - I just can't say anything was amazing or well worth it either. Let's Dig In: (1) Tuna Tartare - Just realized I have this slight addiction of getting tuna tartare every time I see a unique chip base, which is what happened here (LOL). The unique tapioca chips were SO GOOODD and had a great crunchy texture. The tuna itself was fair, lightly seasoned and flavored overall. (2) Octopus - this was OK, I prefer octopus to come out in its full leg form (at which point I can see if it has the charr that I like) & then cut into it myself. Though, I totally understand for sharing, this was prob. better - but with everything else on the plate, the octopus was lost in both flavor/texture. (3) Scallops - this was my least fave, the scallops were cooked OK, but there was just way too much sauce which completely overwhelmed the scallop. (4) Cocktails - the Lycheetini is my go to here, boozy and perf. lightly sweet everytime I have it. I did get a different drink the 2nd time which was OK, it was a pretty blue color but a little too tart and simple in taste. The floor to ceiling City views are grander than any view I've ever experienced living in SF my whole life. The View Lounge, located on the top floor of Marriott Marquis on Mission St is a spot I never heard about until my friend who used to work at the building recommended it for drinks after a visit to SFMoMa last weekend. We arrived around 4pm and it was ready starting to fill in - all of the window seats were taken. You seat yourself and menus are on stands at each table. Staff will approach you and we were able to order relatively quickly once we settled in our high boy table and seats. We all got a few rounds of gin and tonic, and an order of their potato chips and dip. Solid drinks, $22/ truly for the vibes. Chips were a nice snack, dip was creamy. Marriott Marquis: A Priceless View With Pricey, Forgettable Food The views here are truly amazing--San Francisco skyline at sunset, glowing lights as the city comes alive. It's the kind of backdrop that makes you want to sit and soak it all in. But the question is: are the views worth the outlandish price? We managed to grab the last table right before sunset and ordered sliders, cauliflower, chicken tacos, and one alcoholic punch. The bill came to $124 before tip. Pricey, but I could've let that slide if the food was good. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Everything had a strange smoky aftertaste, and the cauliflower was the worst offender--it sat in a sauce with a weird texture and what looked like pearl onions but might've been raisins? Either way, it was oddly sweet and didn't pair well with the dish. Even my husband, who eats almost anything, pushed it aside. The service was decent, and the ambience was dark but romantic, which I actually liked. It felt more like a place to enjoy a drink and a view with someone special than a true foodie stop. If you've never been, it's worth visiting once for the view alone. Just go in knowing that you're paying a steep premium for the scenery--not for the food. read more
