Cute cocktail bar with solid espresso martinis & a menu of great cocktails! It's cute to sit by the window, service is pretty quick but it can get crowded on the weekends. :)
Corner bar located within North Beach in SF. It's pretty poppin here and open very late for a drink after or before dinner in the area. Parking can be kind of tough, you can try to find street parking or there are parking garages a couple of blocks away. They have live music some nights but your typical bar with cocktails and a nice spot to chill.
So glad I finally got to check out Bar April Jean! The place was very full on a Saturday (late) afternoon, especially since the FIFA game was on. The bar itself was very pretty with its sage green accents, plants, and retro decor. For cocktails, I ordered the Watermelon Mama, and my friends got drinks I can't find the name of. One was like a sesame White Russian and the other one was more fruity and refreshing. All three were excellent! I barely drink cocktails anymore, but the Watermelon Mama really impressed me. It was like the perfect salty margarita. My friends' drinks were also top notch. Definitely worth the visit!

Even though the drinks are well made and really picturesque it seems to attract a certain kind of crowd that doesn't like to say please, thank you or excuse me.... The bartenders are super chill and nice. However it's always busy so either come early or be prepared to wait for a seat. There are these cute tables by the windows where you can people watch but they're always taken and for some reason by the men I guess they want their main character moment as well. This would be a perfect girls night out spot if you could sit with your pals by the window. Weekends are more grungy, I'd love to see the atmosphere during a HH on a weekday.
My friend and I were walking to Golden boys pizza to grab a couple of slices and pass by this little gem on the way. It was super cute so we grabbed our slices and snuck them into this cute little cocktail bar and grabbed a couple of drinks! The aesthetic is super cute. Think Havana nights mixed with great vinyl music that really added to the vibe. The bartenders were really great and got there on a Wednesday around six and it started to fill up around 6:30 or 7ish! Must visit when in little Italy!
This is the bar I got my phone stolen at a year ago during a thievery spree, so ngl I was a bit paranoid to return and clutched my phone all night. Everything was fine the second time. Friends and I got a round of moscow mules, as they don't serve AMFs here. They were alright but nothing special and would definitely have preferred an AMF. We stood near the entrance since there was more space there and less crowded. It was a chill time, and after a bit we dipped to continue the night at Monroe. Glad I came back though, as April Jean is just like any other bar on a normal night.
Stopped in here before a dinner reservation. On a Monday night, very quiet, but decent amount of people. The drinks were STRONG!! But overall we enjoyed them! I think we got the watermelon and the April Jeanie(?) I would definitely come here again, but maybe on the weekend.
Stopped by with a few friends after seeing the bar and wanting a drink to celebrate making it to SF. The place is a cute little spot with seating and a nice bar. The bartender was kind and attentive. I ordered the La Naya and a Grandma Shirley with vodka to spice it up a bit lol. You can definitely taste the alcohol so there wasn't any skimping on that lol. My favorite was probably the Grandma Shirley with added vodka! I wanted something fruity so this was perfect. My friends really enjoyed the Watermelon Mama which they found refreshing. Price wise, I would say it was fair for the alcohol you get! $14 a drink seemed fair. Especially for the area location. I would definitely come by again if I were in the area! It has nice vibes, a good location that is walkable to other stores in a lively area. :)
Depends what day of the week you go because it can be wayyy too crowded or just a few people. I went on a Sunday night and there were at least 15 heads inside. It's dim lit, rustic and had Spanish music playing. There was one bartender, so it took us a while to even order our drinks. He then asked if we even knew what we wanted when we wanted to order. I got the watermelon mama and it was very good, I'll give them that. I don't think I would come back as a first option for a bar.
Okay cocktail bar, experienced bartenders, but ambiance is not quite right. It is not as intimate as the pictures look or make it seem. I chose this place to continue my catchup hang with a girlfriend on a Tuesday night. There weren't a lot of seating despite the big open space. I'm assuming the space gets pretty filled on a weekend but on a regular night the open space feels awkward. We sat at the bar. I enjoyed my drink, the maracuya mama, it was more bitter than sweet but I liked that. The bartender seemed to be skilled and experienced, but not a lot of conversation or banter. The decor is nice and the menu is crafted for a sit down intimate cocktail bar, but I think the experience doesn't match up well to what they are branding as. One last note, I thoroughly enjoyed the choice to put a livestream of cows on the TV screens!
Super cutesy bar serving interesting cocktails. It's definitely more of a slightly upscale (at least compared to everything around it) intimate vibe. Auntie rose was super yummy. It looked mostly batch prepped. It was complex tasting but mostly fruit forward. I usually don't like rum based drinks but I think whatever washing they did with the bacardi made it super palatable and it didn't stand out (in a good way)

Cant speak about Bar April Jean without mentioning the owner- Joe Poz. He makes you feel like home whenever you speak to him or order drinks from him. Yup, Joe does bartend at his own bar. So cool. Place is not big but decent size for small groups. Everyone is welcomed and they play old school jazz, Latin music mixed with R&B to set the vibes right. Love cocktails? Come here any night.
In the past few weeks, I've lost count of the number of times I ended up at April Jean one way or another. There's something special about April Jean - it's not too small where there's not people to meet, and it's not too big where it feels you're just stuck in the crowd. As such, it makes this place a great place to mingle and meet new people. And that's just the start - the drinks at April Jean, even if it's a little pricey, all feel worth it. My personal go to is the Boozy Boyfriend as I'm one for stronger drinks, but I've yet to try a cocktail that I didn't like. I can't recommend April Jean enough

Visited on a Sunday around 4pm with a friend. The bar had a few other guest but lots of open seating and not too busy. They have several TV's and put the football game on for us to watch which was nice. Also saw some regulars and the bartender playing backgammon, a great spot to relax and enjoy a drink in the afternoon. Drinks: Maracuya Mama - this was light refreshing, slightly sweet with a hint of passionfruit, pretty well balanced, not too boozy, served on the rocks. Service was good, friendly, attentive and quick. Overall really enjoyed cocktails here, would love to come back and try more of the menu, a great addition to the North Beach neighborhood. read more
Such a cute bar with yummy drinks! Came around 5pm on a Friday and it was pretty empty. Definitely started to get busier around 6 when we left! The drinks were very reasonably priced and tasted so good! Honestly think it was my favorite drink I had all day (and we were bar hopping)! Space would be extra cute on a sunny day, they have huge windows on the walls and could be super pretty during sunset. Definitely want to come back here during the summer evenings! read more

Came here around 6pm on a Friday and the bar was already busy. It's an open air bar with a small amount of seating and a good amount of space to dance if you want. It can be hard to get a spot if you come late. Drinks were creative and pretty affordable and I really liked how well ventilated it was because of all the fresh air read more
Inside scoop: Grab a drink here and get on the Yelp waitlist for Tony's. You won't lose. North Beach is always such a busy area but we luckily found seats at Bar April Jean and had a round of drinks. Seating is at the bar, high chairs, and a couple tables in the corner. You order at the bar and bring it to your table. It was quite loud and the bartender misheard one of our drinks but we didn't care enough to correct her. Hehe. We got the watermelon mama and the pat's pie. Both drinks were solid! Definitely coming back when I'm in the area. read more

The inside of this bar was gorgeous. The sage green is everything. The bartenders were patient and attentive, which helps when they have a unique cocktail menu. My drink was smooth, with tropical notes and hint of banana. My best friend got the snap pea drink which she enjoyed but definitely is an acquired taste. If you love that "fresh" flavor it would be for you. Easy to hold a casual conversation in the bar as the open window helps with the noise. Would come again. read more

4.5 STARS OSL and the holidays are the BEST times to play tourist in the city. Less traffic, less crowds, and easy parking! *CHEERS* to that! And, it was the perfect opportunity to head to North Beach for brunch at Hilda and Jesse (just won their Michelin star), then dranks at the newly opened Bar April Jean from the team behind Harper & Rye, Peacekeeper, etc. April Jean is named after the owners' mothers and their cocktail program is an ode to their childhood snacks and food. No food tho. Open at 2 PM - 2 AM everyday. Dog-friendly! They even have dog treats. M E N U Signature cocktails: $13 each. 5% SF mandate added to all bills. D R I N K S * Fortaleza Blanco ($15): https://tinyurl.com/3b4x8hkc I was so happy to see they had Fortaleza on deck because it's so hard to find in the city. That was my drink of choice for the afternoon....along with a club soda. Depending on the bartender, if you ask for club soda, they may give you a bottle of topo chico instead...which was $6! I was given tap club soda once (no charge) and topo chico twice so make sure to specify. S E R V I C E Kind bartenders and one of the owners, Joe was awesome. We had an incident where two people got "too friendly" and wouldn't leave us alone. He stepped in and handled the situation discreetly. A M B I A N C E Bright and airy with pistachio green walls and windows wide open for plenty of air flow. Bar seating have purse/coat hooks and two tops with banquette seating. Mix of locals and tourists; we met some fellow unicorns (SF natives). On OSL weekend, it was pretty chill. P A R K I N G Wouldn't recommend driving here on a normal weekend but if you do, the nearest garage is at 535 Green Street (1 min walk) for around $30 flat fee. Overall, Bar April Jean is solid new hip bar in North Beach to get your drank on! read more
3.5 A vibey (but loud) bar with just ok drinks. Pure lighting wise, it was quite vibey simply bc it was dark. Dw not dark dark where you can make out and not be seen but dim enough. Honestly, this is a better hang out bar with friends or many dates in vs. first date bc it does get packed and very loud (Thursday night). If you want a chill environment, this could be your spot, but if you want to build intimacy, you probably want to look again (unless you just plan to canoodle - that may be doable). Went here twice within 10 days of my first visit because I enjoyed this place so much. I've tried La Naya (it's like a mezcal martini!), Sweet Pea (an aromatic green-drink-vibe gin cocktail), and the April Jean (classic, namesake inception, lovely vodka-based drink) - I'd recommend all of them, especially La Naya. It has a unique, balanced blend of light strawberry flavor notes over the smoky mezcal; delicious. They offer a variety of drinks with a plethora of garnishes I'm sure you can only find here, super cool. The bartenders are always incredibly chill and kind, I really enjoyed looking around and chatting while they made our drinks up. The decor and character of the bar is dazzling, with vinyls lining the beautifully carved bar shelves (I hear vinyl nights are starting up in the future!!) and a modern-saloon-mid-century-bar effect that is genuinely hard to do justice in words beyond "very pretty" and "I want to go there right now". The casement windows that open the bar up to the corners of Grant and Green are impossible to beat, especially during the summer. It was so nice to snag a table by these large, open windows and enjoy some fresh air while catching up with friends over tasty drinks (competitively priced ones too, I might add - the creators of this place meant it when they said they wanted to create an affordable and approachable bar in North Beach). You're not going to leave here broke or unhappy, that's for sure. Bar April Jean is here to stay. read more
Pretty interior. Arrived at 6:30pm and waited approx 15 minutes to get our drink order in. Drinks were creative and not overly sweet like most cocktails. Would definitely come again since it's one of the more "polished" bars in North Beach where you can get fun cocktails if you're not feeling a glass of wine. read more

What a joke. I got a vodka soda and this is what they gave me. I've gotten larger shots at other bars. Looked like their regular cocktails came in normal sized glasses so if you are getting a drink get something off their menu or a beer. read more
Visited this bar with coworkers while in town for a conference. It was in a prime location near other restaurants and bars. I ordered the watermelon margarita; it was very tasty with fresh watermelon pieces. There offer a variety of high quality cocktails. The place was mostly standing room with a few bar tools. read more
Loved everything about this place! Location is great (near golden boy pizza and plenty of other food/drink options), delicious drink combos, aesthetics, good prices, and great service. Bathroom was also very clean and cute! Highly recommend read more
