Barbarossa is a beautiful place to have a drink! We had dinner reservations at roka down the street and wanted to enjoy a drink before hand. I'm in love with decor. It's lounges and sexy and sophisticated. I love the chandeliers and leather couches. Looks like a good place for bigger groups. We ordered at the bar and the bartender was friendly. Nothing kills the mood more than an uppity bartender so I was so happy. I got my usual espresso martini so I didn't get a good look at the menu but there was a tequila flight that caught my eye. We came here for a friends birthday, we had a table reserved so we sat in the back end of the lounge. There are smaller tables in the front of the restaurant. The minimum was $500 for the large table which was not a bad price at all because we could fit about 10 people there. They played a good mix of hip hop / pop music. If you're looking for a swanky cocktail, drinks with friends, or a first date spot in Fidi/edge of north beach, Barbarossa is your place! I came for a networking event, it was poppin! They have an extensive specialty cocktail menu. They have dimly lit, indoor seating- bar seating, couches around a fireplace, high tops, this space is huge! The service was great, bartenders were very nice and organized considering how busy it was. I tried the "Feels Good" with chai infused whiskey, vanilla honey and spiced chocolate. It was well crafted, the chai vanilla combo, it was so easy to drink. The cocktails are reasonably priced for SF. The bathrooms downstairs are a little messy, however I appreciate they had many stalls (more important in my opinion). Great spot to try! read more

Barbarossa Lounge kindly allowed our party of 50 to come in and host a private surprise party last minute after our original planned location had to cancel due to the power outage. When I say last minute, I mean LAST MINUTE. Service was fast to bring our food and the bartenders were quick with serving yummy drinks. Went to Barbarossa Lounge for Halloween, and WOW the place was packed with so many attractive, young, fun people!!! It was an absolute party vibe. The staff were super friendly and helpful (I couldnt find the stairs to the basement dance party at first). Drinks were strong and well-priced. I love the decor--they have the most gorgeous chandeliers!!! The DJ did a great job keeping the party going until we got kicked out at 2am :( But not to worry as the street vendors were ready for us all leaving the bars slightly drunk and ready for a bacon wrapped hot dog :) Anyone that says that SF is dead or just crack heads and homeless people, you're right--no need for you to come here! We already have all the cool kids at Barbarossa Lounge!!! Waiter also wasn't too friendly but eventually replaced our order. Place was a bit empty for what we'd expect to be a buzzing post-dinner/pre-party timing. Decor was a bit tacky. After having not been to SF's Jackson Square neighborhood in a while I was surprised - in a great way - by what I found there. Sadly, gone are the print shops of old, my one-time favorite nightclub, and the quirky assemblage of curios in the office of Melvin Belli (RIP, all of it). In their place though, the area has become home to a whole new ethos, one that had me remarking on how the streets lined with upscale shops, cafes, and secretive seeming AI workers reminded of being in Paris. Yes, Paris. Though far from Parisian in feel, add Barbarossa Lounge to the list of great additions to the area. Low-lit and situated in one of the City's oldest buildings, this is a perfect place to indulge in cocktails, nibbles, and reverie. The cocktail list is always changing but the ones I sampled (especially the Gold Rush, $15) were well-prepared and served in portion sizes that didn't leave me feeling ripped off. Bartenders were quick and courteous; this is a very nice place. I sampled widely from the appetizers also and was impressed by the attention given to presentation. It's clear that the folks running Barbarossa Lounge care about ambiance, hiring, cocktails, and food equally; it shows and is an asset to the entire experience. There's a million other places to drink in nearby North Beach, Chinatown, or the FiDi, but if you're looking for a wonderfully ambient experience Barbarossa Lounge is an ideal choice. read more

First time here, really only came across this place because we were on a ghost tour and it was one of the stops. This bar is literally so cute! The vibes are immaculate. Apparently there's ghosts downstairs and before the renovations you were able to see old SF parts from the 1900's. Wish they kept a part of the old history but whatever. I went to Barbarossa for my 25th birthday and I will definitely be going back! Barbarossa has a friendly atmosphere to hangout with friends in an intimate setting but also turns into a club at night! We went around 9 pm to grab a couple round of drinks and then food! I highly recommend getting the Red Cloud, which was tequila, mezcal, pamplemouse blood orange-jalapeno. It was delicious absolutely delicious but I will give the disclaimer that I am a tequila girl. The reason that I took off one star because the food was very confusing to order. I recommend reorienting the food menu. We ordered a charcuterie board. It was very odd because it did not come with the typical traditional charcuterie. It only came with meat so we quickly figured out that you had to order everything separately. We ordered the cheese and sausages separately, which caused us to get large amount of bread every order. I feel like this could have been done different to prevent waste. If you are coming here to club, Barbarossa really picks up at around 10:30-11ish! read more

There were a variety of meat & vegetarian options: deviled eggs, beets, a cheese plate, a charcuterie plate, two types of sliders (mushroom & pork) with carmelized onions & gruyere, guacamole on toast and bacon wrapped shrimp. The five stars are for the amazing service but maybe first I will talk about the actual bar! Two floors, pretty spacious. I tried three drinks and all were quite good. The day I went, Saturday, they were playing great dance songs from like 2010-2020. The basement floor had older music, less dancey, and the DJ put in some odd transitions that made it tough to keep dancing. But ultimately five stars because my friend lost a wallet as he got into a Waymo outside the bar. We called the lounge and the man who answered the phone was so kind. He went out of his way on a really busy night to check the street outside for the wallet and called me back to tell me he had it! He even came outside to hand me the wallet. Who said a cocktail w a side of S&M don't go together? This north beach staple definitely is a vibe, and delivers Classy old school feels w/ skillfully made cocktails and a small bites menu. You can reserve a couch space with rolling through with your gang, or more intimate tables if trying to impress your date. Come here even without a rezy! Best time would be before 10pm - as you'll be charged a cover after. Make sure to ask what's behind the upstairs curtained section, as well as the more 'private' rooms downstairs. Very disappointing experience. My husband was called out for wearing a baseball hat ("dress code," so he removed it), while another guest in a cowboy hat was celebrated throughout the evening. When I asked what the difference was between the two hats, and whether we'd be treated differently in a cowboy hat next time, security (two staff members) repeatedly dismissed my concern by saying, "he's ok, he's ok," referring to the other man. The bartenders were friendly and professional, but the security staff displayed obvious double standards. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this establishment to friends. We couldn't get out of there fast enough--unwelcoming, inconsistent, and not inclusive. read more

Barbarossa is always a good time! The interior is cute, the crowd is good, and the music is usually great (top 40 and a mix of older jams you'd love). I had to subtract one star because of the mean, angry bartender, David. After buying a round of shots, he didn't give us any chaser. I went back for regular soda waters and coke. He angrily demanded my card. Confused, I just handed it over. He charged us $13! The receipt said bottled sparkling water. Bro, we each got like 4 sips of soda water in those small cups full of ice. He also never gave us the Coke back. After paying, I asked where the Coke back was. He got angry, grabbed the receipt inside, saw that I had indeed tipped ON TOP for $17.xx of soda water on tap (mind you he also got a nice tip for the shots right beforehand), then reluctantly gave us ONE Coke back for the 3 shots we got. David, don't work in the service industry if you hate people. That being said, all the other staff was delightful! Super awesome and pleasant. On New Year's Eve, I attended an event at this venue with a small group of friends and family. We entered the venue without any issues and remained in the same area of the venue throughout the night. Shortly after entering, a male staff member who was working that evening passed by our group and made an inappropriate and offensive comment directed at my gay friend, saying something to the effect of, "Get out of the way, bitch." Due to the loud music, we did not immediately realize what was said, but once it became clear, it was both shocking and unacceptable. The venue was extremely crowded, which is expected on New Year's Eve, and our group was not acting disorderly in any way. The same staff member later passed by again and made inappropriate hand gestures toward our group. Shortly after this interaction, security approached my girlfriend and me and stated that we were "getting out of hand" and needed to leave. This accusation was confusing and unexpected, as we had not moved from our location or caused any disturbance. When I calmly asked for clarification, security claimed we were "too drunk" and "creating problems." When asked to specify what behavior was problematic, no clear explanation was provided. Another security staff member was called, escalating the situation without justification. At that point, a female employee approached us and falsely accused us of "throwing drinks at the bartender." This allegation was completely untrue. Neither my girlfriend nor I had been to the bar, nor had we purchased or thrown any drinks that evening. When I asked when, how, or to whom this allegedly occurred, no answers were provided. I requested to speak with a supervisor, but the employee stated she did not know her supervisor's name. She also refused to provide her own name, at one point stating, "I don't have a name." When I asked for evidence to support the accusation, I was told, "Don't worry about it." At this moment, multiple security staff surrounded us, making the situation feel intimidating and hostile. Despite the seriousness of the false accusations made against us, no action was taken to address the initial staff member who verbally harassed my friend using a derogatory slur. Instead, the situation was mishandled by staff who were rude, disrespectful, unprofessional, and dishonest. With no clear explanation and feeling harassed and targeted, we chose to leave the venue voluntarily. Our intention that night was simply to celebrate New Year's Eve and enjoy the event. Instead, we were subjected to harassment, discrimination, false accusations, and extremely poor handling of the situation by staff and security. This experience was distressing and completely unacceptable. read more

Above and beyond. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Barbarbossa going to dinner and couldn't have been more impressed. It was super relaxed on a Tuesday evening, and Eduardo took excellent care of us. He was attentive, and modified the already impressive cocktail menu to my allergies and preferences. The lounge itself was inviting, the ambiance was great, and I'm genuinely disappointed I hadn't come across this place sooner. Seems like weekends present a busy, energetic club vibe, but enjoying a craft cocktail and joking with a bartender who cares was really enjoyable. Place was garbage. People are sloppy and the bouncers are clowns who let certain people break dress code and get onto others who wear simple hats. I noticed the hat problem has been brought up in previous 1-star reviews in which the manager acknowledged and said the issue would be fixed. But clearly that hasn't been fixed yet, might need to hire more competent bouncers. Our server (blonde woman) served us our drinks then was nowhere to be found. We had to go to the bar and grab our ticket from the bartender. Plus the music is way too fuckin loud, we couldn't hear each other talk. Mfer thought he was Skrillex or some shit. That was my first impression of that place and my last time going there. I don't recommend coming here unless you enjoy being around sloppy people who can't handle their alcohol. read more

I have no problem if a bouncer in a place tells me that there is a "no hat policy", I just won't go inside. However, if you add "but if you s*hoot me something I'll let you in" referring to a bribe obviously, this is just bad acting and leaving with a bad taste!
