Stumbled upon David Newman and Concealed Carry NOLA after doing a lot of research and weighing all the options for courses in the New Orleans area. Let me tell you, I'm so glad I took David's class. He is a phenomenal instructor who expressed his lessons with clarity and confidence. The material was anything but boring and was filled with real examples and scenarios that both encouraged class participation and made the information sink in with ease. He had guns available to rent for those who didn't yet own their own firearm and even had extra earplugs for those who needed them. I took my concealed carry class with David yesterday and was 100% satisfied with the quality of his course and instruction. He's a down to Earth guy, who was very thorough in his explanations, answered everyone's questions and did so in a very kind and friendly way. I recommend everyone take a gun training course or two. In this instance, I attended David Newman's Concealed Handgun Permit course over 2 nights. He provided a lot of terrific information (homework!). You will definitely be a smarter gun owner for it. The Concealed Carry NOLA course was thought-provoking - David asked lots of questions to engage students, posed some realistic scenarios, and answered all questions. As someone who knew next to nothing about Louisiana laws and had not used a gun in decades, the course was eye-opening and extremely useful. David Newman, NRS and LSP instructor, conducted my LA concealed permit renewal. It was a private class at The Shooter's Club in Harahan, LA, with whom he has a long-standing relationship. His web site is extremely user-friendly for scheduling a variety of classes and times. David sent me all the necessary paperwork in advance; was punctual; had all requirements completed at the range when I arrived. He allowed me as much time as I needed to ask questions (I had specific questions about the law and about handling my weapon). I felt surprisingly comfortable and confident in my qualifying shooting (what fun that was!). My husband and I were interested in learning more about personal protection and the possibility of gun ownership. Dave holds small group classes and we received very personalized instruction. In the classroom section, we learned not only details about different types of handguns, gun operation, and gun safety, but also tips on personal safety, judgment, laws and more. As a new resident to Louisiana and having a concealed permit from another state, I wanted to share that David Newman is a great instructor. Many students in my class had never handled a firearm before and Dave was great at teaching the fundamentals of their firearm, safety, and shooting. In addition Dave was great at sharing considerations that an armed citizen has to be conscious of for use of their firearm in a defensive situation. I cannot recommend David Newman's concealed carry class more highly. He's a gifted natural teacher who understands basic technique and how it needs to build into more advanced tactical applications. I am an avid duck hunter and am comfortable shooting shotguns and bow/arrows. Have never owned a pistol or not familiar with the mechanics of it. Was very nervous at first, but am grateful to have been able to take this course. Mr. David is a real nice guy and straight to the point. His teaching style is very direct with humor sprinkled in. Just be sure to complete all necessary materials and pay attention! If you do this, the course is completed with ease.
