What's the point of making an appointment if you're just going to be waiting for a while. Clean place though

He is the most knowledgeable doctor any of us has ever encountered when it comes to injuries and other health conditions. No matter what we bring to him, he always has a clear and informed answer. What makes him truly stand out is his bedside manner. He's a great listener, genuinely caring, and incredibly easy to build a rapport with. You never feel rushed or dismissed. He has earned my and many of my clients' trust and loyalty! If you're looking for a sports medicine doctor who combines top-tier expertise with real compassion, Dr. Dengerink is your guy!

I went to see the MD at San Diego Sports Medicine for a knee injury and my insurance was only charged $260. The MD referred me to their Physical Therapy Department, so I said ok, made an appointment, and saw the Physical Therapist. When I got my bill about a month later, I discovered that they billed my insurance $460 for one session with the Physical Therapist! Why did the Physical Therapist cost $200 more than the MD at the same clinic? This place DOUBLE billed me (used the same billing code twice) for one single Physical Therapy session. I repeatedly told this to the billing department, but they ignored me and would not remove the duplicate charge. One of the billing representatives even said, "we billed you twice because the insurance covers both." This place is committing fraud by double billing for physical therapy. They charged me to do stretches, which I did with little to no assistance. Do not go here. You will get billed unfairly. The billing staff is unethical, and they have no empathy for their patients.

On 9/9/2024 I was injured during a massage at Sports Performance Physical Therapy in Chula Vista…read more The LMT had her elbow in the intercostal space of my left anterior chest when I suddenly felt an incredible amount of sharp, stabbing pain. I cried out and requested that she remove her elbow from my chest. The pain in my left chest was excruciating. I was unable to use my left arm without experiencing an enormous amount of pain. Even breathing was painful. Coughing and sneezing were unbearable. When I woke up the next morning, the pain was severe. Based on my symptoms, I was afraid I had a rib fracture. I contacted Cristianah Comaduran, Operations Manager of Sports Performance to notify her of the injury. She spoke with the LMT, who verified what happened. We stayed in contact over the next several weeks. I informed her that I would be filing a claim with their liability insurance and would contact her once I was completely asymptomatic. For the next two weeks, the pain was severe. I was unable to work, do household chores, and help my 4 year son with the things he needed, like getting dressed, bathing, basic ADLs. I filed a short term disability claim through my employer (I'm an ICU nurse). The stipulation for payment is that the first two weeks are unpaid, and then 60% of earnings are paid. This was a great financial burden for my family. The consequences of this injury were costly with low income for the months of October and November. My pain continued to improve until I caught an upper respiratory infection (URI) that caused continuous coughing. The pain was back and it was severe. Each cough and sneeze was excruciating. Once the URI resolved, my pain improved. For two months, the pain and suffering was debilitating, not allowing me to work, exercise, take care of the household, and most importantly, my son. It caused sleepless nights because the pain medication I was prescribed did little to relieve my symptoms, which lead to chronic exhaustion. The findings of my MRI on 11/14/24, which was two months after the injury, showed asymmetric edema at the level of the left third sternocostal joint. Two months after the injury, I still had abnormal results which were consistent with my symptoms. My thoracic spine MRI from 2022 showed none of these injuries. My PCP's impression was that there was a sprain of costal cartilage subsequent encounter. He determined it was costal-sternal joint strain vs developing costochrondritis. Along with pain and suffering, I experienced anxiety and distress due to financial strain. The injury resulted in thousands of dollars of missed wages. In addition, I was unable to accrue paid time off and contribute to my pension and retirement fund. This set me back two months from being vested at work. When I returned to work, I had very little sick or vacation time due to the inability to accrue paid time off (PTO). In January of 2025, I called out sick for 3 shifts (36 hours) when I was sick with the flu. I did not have enough sick time to cover the hours missed. I also received a double occurrence for my absence, which was not cleared from my record until January of 2026. It was worrisome that despite returning to work, the effects of this injury continued to be a financial burden and was affecting my performance review at work. This incident has also resulted in out of pocket costs, such as co-pays and pharmaceuticals, not to mention I was never reimbursed for the massage that started it all!! Perhaps worse than everything, I had to borrow money from my parents, so there's an element of shame in addition to the pain, suffering, and distress. This injury has been costly in terms of lost wages/PTO accrual and out of pocket expenses, not to mention inability to contribute to retirement and inch closer to being vested at my place of employment. I submitted an incredible amount of documents to Sports Performance in attempt to file a claim against their liability insurance. They were extremely difficult to work with and despite my repeated efforts to present all documents they requested, my claim was denied. Total cost for lost wages and out of pocket costs: $20,224.09. Because of this massage, I experienced pain, suffering, chronic exhaustion due to insomnia, anxiety, distress, and shame...and I didn't even get a fucking apology.

I had just experienced another flareup and was feeling desperate. They were able to get me in to see Dr. Shane quickly, and when I tell you that I felt like I was with a miracle worker. We went through several motions during the intro session, and he was able to diagnosis my issue (piriformis syndrome and tight hips). He performed cupping and massage, and he was able to loosen up my stubborn hips. He then had me perform some PT exercises, and I IMMEDIATELY felt relief. I honestly couldn't believe it. I thought the relief would go away after a few hours, but it stayed for a few days. I've worked him for about 6 sessions now, and I've felt drastic improvements. He tailors the training session to my problem areas, and he doesn't increase my load too quickly, to make sure I don't reinjure myself (which had been happening before). It's a bit pricy, but it's honestly been a lifesaver for me. Would recommend to anyone!

But La Mesa Rehab was AMAZING! I'm able to function now WITHOUT carting that dang oxygen concentrator around all the time. They are also so friendly, and always challenged me ,and always encouraged me to do better. They really enjoy their work and make La Mesa Rehab a friendly and fun environment. My only complaints are that (1) they are in La Mesa...wish they were closer to my home...but they are worth the drive...and (2) that Medicare requires me to take a few weeks off every so often (but that's not their fault). They are always encouraging me and treating me with care & respect. Everyone there was amazing and friendly! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND LA MESA REHAB

Since I have…read morea brain stem injury, I thought finding a rehabilitation facility that says they specialize in physical therapy and respiratory therapy--and even Neuro rehabilitation (see YouTube channel)--I was absolutely relieved to get this referral and hopeful I would finally get the help I needed. Sadly, it was all false advertising. When a medical assistant is assigned to help someone with a brain injury who has a history of seizures alone and yells "Help" 3 times to colleagues because her parents is having a focal brainstem seizure and cannot get air in or out... those colleagues should have come running after the first cry for help. Though Dr. Peavy mentioned some recommendations while face-to-face she did not identify those recommendations in her report to my neurologist. I am uncertain whether I caught her on a bad day or if she's always rude to patients. If she asked me an open ended question, I went to answer it, but two sentences in, she said I was wasting her time. When she asked me another question, as I began answering, she said, "This is why you can't get help, you waste everyone's time." I live with a communication disorder from brain injury. Answering new questions on the spot without prior time to practice a concise, one word answer for a complex situation, is challenging at best. Ultimately she didn't know where to refer me and chose to drop me because although La Mesa Rehab claims to provide care for neurological problems, neuro respiratory problems is a bridge too far for this respiratory therapist. If living with a brain injury, and sensory flooding causes problems, this clinic is not for you. They give instructions, set a timer and walk away so there are timers going off all over the room-filled with clients working at different places. The clinic is set up to work as many patients as possible--so they will literally tell you what to do and walk away. Then they all congregate at their table area and chat while patients do workouts without close supervision around them. I was very disappointed and abandoned without the respiratory interventions Dr. Peavy mentioned in our face to face conversation. I sent multiple emails requesting what she stated in person, but Ultimately, since the conversation wasn't recorded, she wasn't willing to provide what she'd promised when we first met. She discharged me because I was too complex for her clinic. Removing "neurological conditions" from the La Mesa Rehab YouTube channel would prevent them from getting complex patients with "neurological conditions" outside their scope of practice.
