    I had major surgery on my head 10 years ago, and yesterday, I really needed to go to a nearby Urgent Care. The place was nice, conveniently located near restaurants and pharmacies, with clean restrooms. The front desk staff was okay, and the doctor gave me an honest opinion about what I needed to do. However, the process wasn't very fast, as expected with Urgent Care, even though my head hurt badly. The doctor advised me to go to the ER to manage my pain and get further help. It took about three hours from filling out paperwork to answering questions. Thankfully, I went early when it wasn't too busy, but it got much busier as time went on.

I've visited this MinuteClinic several times for flu shots and TB tests, and while wait times can run longer than expected, I understand why. Between walk-ins, limited providers, and the unpredictable nature of healthcare, delays are sometimes unavoidable. This visit was no different. While waiting for my general medical exam, I noticed a steady stream of patients being checked in. At one point, an older couple at the front desk seemed to be having trouble navigating the walk-in process. Peter stepped out of his room repeatedly--at least five times--to help translate and explain the system to them. Despite his efforts, they seemed confused about how to proceed and would repeatedly approach the front whenever a name was called, even when it clearly wasn't theirs. By this point, I was about 10 minutes past my scheduled appointment, and the waiting room was getting busier. Peter calmly explained to the couple that he could only perform the specific TB test they wanted to sign up for, while they were requesting multiple services that the MinuteClinic doesn't even offer. Shortly after, he called my name. As I walked up, I overheard other patients expressing frustration about the wait, with some even canceling their appointments. Meanwhile, Peter just sighed and immediately returned to providing professional, attentive care. During my appointment, he was nothing but kind, focused, and respectful. I had forgotten some required forms for my exam, and he was incredibly understanding--allowing me to quickly run to my car to retrieve them. He also took the time to give me thoughtful advice about my future in nursing, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the earlier couple continued to interrupt, knocking on the door multiple times during my visit. Each time, Peter had to step away to explain that he was with a patient, while they grew increasingly frustrated that he couldn't drop everything to assist them immediately. He apologized to me every time he paused, though I didn't mind. I could clearly see the situation he was managing. That experience alone was a powerful reminder of what our healthcare system is. In the single hour I was there, it felt like a full shift's worth of challenges. Patients don't get the care they genuinely need, incompetent people don't do their research, and providers that ARE present become ill-equipped punching bags. It is a constant cycle. TLDR: The minute clinic here is a disaster. I agree with other reviews that it is understaffed and often overbooked (walk-ins are not as simple as they seem). Patients deserve timely, high-quality care, but it's also important to understand the system's limitations. IF YOU are standing there, signing up for a 10-minute TB test, as it was the only appointment available to make online, and then are SHOCKED when the only 1 NP working there tells you they cannot perform the 50-minute appointment you ACTUALLY wanted to have done in that 10-min slot, then YOU are the problem. Understaffed or not, it is the few entitled/ignorant people I see from time to time that cause the greatest disturbance in ANY healthcare clinic/hospital/pharmacy/you name it. Healthcare providers are humans too, who get overworked like the rest of us. They work under pressure, juggle multiple responsibilities, and still strive to give each patient the care they deserve. Before leaving a harsh review about "bad service," it's worth considering the bigger picture.

I told the lady at the front desk that I felt like I was having a heart attack. She immediately brought me back and 3-5 people jumped in and worked on me. They immediately called an ambulance for me to be rushed to the hospital. It wasn't a heart attack but it was an arrhythmia. Normal heart rate is 60-100 bpm, my heart was at 240 bpm!!! That was terrifying. When I was at the hospital, the doc and cardiologist said it was good I went to urgent care when I did bc they were able to get my vitals and heart scans to quickly determine it was SVT. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to the ladies at AFC. If it wasn't for your quick action and quick assessment, I don't know what would've happened.     First time needing to go to Urgent Care in San Diego on a Saturday afternoon. With a quick search,…read moreAFC Urgent Care Mission Valley was the closest location to me. The website was easy to navigate with the option to walk-in or schedule an appointment. I opted to schedule an appointment in two hours. The appointment scheduling system was a breeze and very user friendly. I saved a bunch of time uploading my Driver's License, Insurance Card and filling out all my information. I received text and email updates. I arrived 30 minutes before my appointment and the receptionist was friendly and checked me in, even though there was a QR code to scan for self-check. The waiting room was 75% full, so I opted to sit near the door one seat away from other patients on either side. While waiting there was a steady flow of patients coming and going. What I disliked was when a new patient sat right next to me when there was a row of three empty seats. I feel like it's just good manners to sit far apart when possible. Nurse Ashley took me back to check my vitals 8 minutes after my schedule appointment. Instead of measuring my height and weight she asked me. She did take my blood pressure, pulse and temperature. She brought me back to wait in a treatment room. After 15-20 minutes she came back to inform me that I will be seen by a provider shortly and thank you for waiting. I made myself comfy in the armchair. It was probably another 30 minutes before Dr. MacKenzie came in. She asked a few questions, took a look at me, gave me her diagnosis but wanted a second opinion and asked me to wait a little longer. Another doctor came in, asked some questions, looked at me and felt my eyes, gave the same diagnosis and departed. Dr. MacKenzie explained the diagnosis, prescribed a steroid, antihistamine and topic ointment. These were all ready for me before I arrived at my preferred pharmacy. What I appreciated the most was her level of care. I respected that she took time to get a second opinion and thoroughly explained everything to me and answered all my questions. While it's never fun to go to the hospital, she eased my anxiety for sure. I highly recommend this location for urgent care needs and hope that you are lucky to get Dr. MacKenzie.

    I came to Dr. Fischer because I was looking to change doctors (not happy with the former one…read morebecause he was more interested in getting folks in and out and used to get pissed off if you delayed his process by asking too many questions or unrelated questions.) - every year in October San Diego Magazine puts out their list of Best Doctors in San Diego and he had made the list twice and was not far away so I decided to go see him. I am happy to see that he has made the list four years in a row now. He does not make you feel rushed and answers any and all questions. He explains things without making you feel like you need to change this and this about your lifestyle, even though it is implied that you really should try to take better care of yourself. He even answers questions unrelated to your situation if asked. His support staff is adequate, not overly friendly but definitely not rude or mean. He also tries to help make prescriptions less costly if he can.
