I loved being a student here. The professors and staff go out of their way to know your name and to care for their students. The student community there is open and welcoming. The dorms were really nice, almost like a hotel. I really enjoyed my time there. read more

I graduated with a Masters of Education in Advanced Literacy with honors in 2008. I absolutely loved all my professors and the classes I took were interesting. I was well prepared to take the Reading Certification exam and become certified as a Reading Specialist. I recommend Concordia University Texas to anyone desiring higher education with a heart. read more

This is not a review based on the academics because I did not go to this college. This is a review about a beautiful campus situated on a nature preserve. My little sister attends this university, and while she has nothing but amazing things to say about the academics, I have had the luxury of picking her up and dropping her off at her dorm. First, let's talk about safety. There is a security guard at the front of the university and virtually everyone entering and leaving has to stop. They patrol the university area as well very frequently. This makes me feel good about leaving a loved one there. It's a smaller campus so the patrol really makes a huge difference. Lastly, the grounds are beautifully maintained and full of grand trees, prestige grass, walkways, and trails. I went to The University of Texas, which is more like a concrete jungle competitively. I really do appreciate the nature in the area and it's so secluded. Overall, campus gets a 5 star due to the layout, safety, and nature elements! read more

Please heed my warning, do not go to this school. Especially if you're an individual with learning disabilities, this school is not for you. Unfortunately this school was sold to me on false pretenses. I was told by their recruiters that this school "...is the same speed as a normal BSN program except there are no breaks in between semesters, which is what makes it an accelerated program", but upon arrival that proved not to be true. The very first day of the program was introduction day, and they went through a slide show explaining the program. On one of the slides one of the higher ups, let's call her Carrie, discussed the speed at which the program would be going. On this slide Carrie said "When you think of an accelerated program think ten times faster than that. This group is already going through to be several weeks ahead of the regular bsn program down in Austin." I should've left right then and there because, like I told the recruiters, I am a learning disabilities student who did not want more compacted work but they either have no clue what's going on in these classrooms or flat out lied to me. I was fine with no breaks, but the squeezing of time and making double work out of it, no. At that point, I figured I'd stick it out because I didn't see a path forward and I had already committed to this. Then I get there and actually start the classes, and there are some good professors there, but when you're paying around $77,000 (a rough estimate) and possibly more, everyone needs to be held at the same standard such as...SHOWING UP AND GIVING LECTURES!!! There are several classes in which no lectures were given, and they were very important classes. One such class was Pharmacology, probably one of the top most difficult classes in all of nursing school made 10 times harder due to the lack of a teacher. And when they were there to have "review" classes before the task. It was the most unorganized and unhelpful class I've ever been a part of, I've never seen a professor this incompetent to teach when they did. They literally threw the book at us and said figure it out, and they just can't do that with a class like pharmacology. Also, it wasn't like I was not working hard, I have never worked harder for school in my life. This is why I again, strongly urge those with learning disabilities to avoid this school like the plague. There was also an incident in which a huge majority of the students failed the first pharmacology exam, so much so that the legitimacy of this test came into question, even by Other professors and coaches in the program. In the end, the Director of nursing did absolutely nothing about it and claimed they couldn't do much about it. There was absolutely something they could've done about it however, I think they simply wanted to avoid a headache. We were given no help and we were given no direction on what to hone in on whatsoever. The program is needlessly 10 times harder for a regular individual to do and for people with SEVER learning disabilities it's unmanageability difficult and will most definitely break you and your mental health. In terms of accommodations that they offer for those who struggle with severe learning disabilities, The only thing you get is extra time. I have attended other major universities and they have been willing to offer so much more in terms of accommodations like note takers, video lectures, and recordings. But there was nothing of the sort. Upon realizing that this was not going to work out, I left the semester after and I have been told by almost every student that I have kept in contact with that I have dodged a bullet and that they are working with even less then they did the previous semester and even less teacher standards. Most have told me that they sincerely regret the decision they made in choosing the school, but feel that they have to continue on as they've already paid so much money towards the program. Some people even went as far as telling me they were jealous of me and wished they could have gotten out while they still could, as they feel financially trapped because of how expensive it is. read more

Believe it or not at 58 years old I have a " behavioral conduct file" at Concordia University. Mind you I have raised three children one of them even in law-enforcement. Please read my other review about Concordia to understand what my review concerns. Any place putting a conduct file on a 58-year-old mother should be highly questioned. Why did they do this? Because, they were concealing things that young students would be oblivious to. Why would they need to redact this file when it's been requested? Because when you lie, you don't want your name to be in print. What kinds of things are they doing you may ask? Like finding out that they are using students who are getting discounted or free tuition as part of their employment to do the dirty work. This includes falsely accusing me of not being a team player to try to rattle me right before the boot court competition. And after they recruited a student to be on their MOOT Court to keep me or the student who wanted to pair with me from winning. They paired the recruited student with the student because they would not let us choose what teams we want it to be on ourselves because they were trying to rig the teams. The recruited student then bailed on the student who was actually enrolled in the class. They should be considered unconscionable, but for them it's a regular practice. I even had to contact the department of education after they were telling me that I had to return funds after that have been dispersed from Financial Aid causing EXTEME duress after getting out of the hospital, being assaulted, dropping 40 pounds, and having Covid and efforts to prevent me from finishing my paper on cyber stalking. Any place that could do this to a student is in no way, shape or form Christian! This was downright abusive! The ethics at this university are anything but Christian. They want to force you to take Christian leadership and ethics classes yet they don't even practice them themselves! AGAIN I SAY, RUN FROM HERE!!! read more

Wow... rating your college on yelp. This should be interesting. Alright so I agree with Merry that you do get a lot of perks by going to small university but it can have a the high school vibe to it as well. The activities they offer for both on campus residents and commuters is great. They practically give money away for you to start any sort of club and dorm life isn't all that bad especially the newer ones. But of course that's when i was there, soon this place will be moving to a campus which, hopefully, will put it on a bigger map. If I had to do over it again would I? Probably not. Even though I met my wife here no one really knows Concordia. and if they do they just see it as a small private institution and question your degree. But maybe all that will change. I recommend this place for it's seminary program, Directors of Christian Ed and Teaching Program. They provide a lot help and forward progression into your career. As far the math and science they kind of forget about you once you graduate and there no next step like internships or summer programs that are set up. Again they recently hired some new people that are trying to change that. Overall I had a great 4 years here and loved the time spent here. read more

Concordia University Texas - The Bell - Colleges & Universities Near Me - Austin, Texas

Personally did not have a great experience. And when talking with classmates it seems they had similar experiences. This school caused me too much stress when they were supposed to be helping me. The staff does not care about the students. They are concerned with getting the job done and making sure the university gets paid. I was trying to reach out to the financial aid advisor for three consecutive weeks with no response and was unable to get the help I needed. I contacted directors, and student central and received no response period. Some Professors are great but some shouldn't be teaching. You do not get to chose your teachers, so be prepared to be stuck with whoever it is. I have taken a course where the teacher didn't care about teaching and had all of the answers online and wouldn't respond to questions. And I had a professor that cared a little too much and would grade a little too harsh and was rude to students when we got answers wrong. When me and my classmates went to complain about a professor, the schools response was " Professor is one of our best teachers here" and they essentially did nothing. The advisors are great trying to keep up with your course load and making sure you are getting everything done with in a timely matter. But they can also be a tad annoying. I had a time where the advisors called me 4-5 times with in the week. Which can be great unless you are super busy and it starts to add to the stress load. I was a transfer student from a community college trying to go to a university and my community college was so much better than this school. Would not recommend this school to anyone. read more

I would give this school a 1 star. I am in their nursing program and it is really lacking!! The technology and "state of the art" labs are not what they claim they are. Equipment is all old. Lab supplies are old. Old syringes, etc. Staff doesn't care about your concerns. Staff doesn't care if you get sick, they still expect you to go to the doctor within 24 hours (which nobody always have the time/money for) in order to be out from class. If you are an adult student (meaning you live on your own, have kids, married, etc) you will more than likely not like this school. It's like high school all over. There's a lot of hostility in my classes between different young girls and all out unprofessional in class. My pharmacology professor doesn't take her job very seriously and I don't learn anything in class. This is similar in my adult health theory class also. We are REQUIRED to be in class to work on a case study. This is not helpful to NOT be taught any concepts. We are expected to teach ourselves books for this class that are e-books. I am passing my classes, but there are many students that are not passing. They expect us to teach ourselves, but require us to be in a physical classroom or hospital 27+ hours a week. If I could go back, I would have finished at ACC. They have so many more resources for students than Concordia ever will. ACC has updated computer labs and wifi that works and real libraries. Concordia's wifi hardly works on campus and there are 0 yes ZERO charging ports at desks. This school is straight out of the 90s. The professors have their brand new lap tops though. ACC doesn't have to charge $25,000 for a semester for a less than average education that Concordia provides. ACC's RN program is a little over $9000 and it's one of the best! Concordia, please get it together!! read more

The professors are GREAT. The main campus is amazing. I am an ABSN student so I have to travel to downtown Austin, Blargh to a not as amazing facility... The new dean of the nursing program (Dean Shuffitt) is horribly out of touch with the students and has poor leadership skills. He encourages competition rather than cooperation and teamwork, has no time to listen to or address student concerns, and has taken an amazing community and made it hostile. The students are no longer looking forward to class and most are seriously regretting choosing Concordia. Which is a shame because the professors are AMAZING. The new leadership is NOT in line with the espoused message of Concordia AT ALL. I wish my credits would transfer to another school, but alas I would have to start all over again and I do not have time for that nonsense. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THE BSN PROGRAM UNTIL THEY GET RID OF THIS GUY. read more

So this is where I got my degree ..... right before they moved 4 blocks from my house .... up here on 620.... my wife gets the joy of attending the school in close proximity. I was a traditional student (in that I had to take normal classes during the day, they don't offer Computer Science as ADP) but I was also working full (fool) time to support my family. My first professor, was an out and out idiot ..... he didn't know as much about programming as I did (and I was a salesman at the time) then Prof Sloan replaced him, and he knows his stuff... he really challenged me, he has since left the institution so I can't speak about that department anymore .... The math department is ACES they pushed me really hard (oh how I hate them) Dr. Feng really tore me up on Diff Eq, I got more out of that one class than from my calc 1-3 classes at ENMU , ITT and ACC. (I took calculus 5 times not because I failed ....) apparently Calculus 1 doesn't count for a Pre calculus course at some institutions ..... Dr Heck who taught the C.S. Lewis class is also slamming good. I got a great job after I graduated, but it took about 6 months. read more

Appealing learning environment, self paced. Self directed learning and a valuable lesson given by my counselor. One thing that I didn't care for is that I had to find my own missionary trip in order to obtain my MSN. That info should be readily available, options, with hotels set up and security when traveling to an underdeveloped area. I love to help but my safety comes first. read more

This is a small, Christian liberal arts school located in the heart of Austin. The advantages I experienced were getting to know your professors, and their willingness to help you. It sometimes has a high-school vibe to it because everyone pretty much knows everyone. Overall, I think I got a good education out of this place. read more

Concordia responds to a negative post by saying they are open to the community "in many ways." Oh yeah? What ways? The guard shack at the entrance isn't welcoming. The gymnasium is not open to the public. The fields are not open to play on, nor the tennis courts. Do they even have tennis courts? There are very few public plays/theatre, and if there are, where are the notices going out to the locals to come share the joy of college theatre? Is their library open to the public? I mean, really, what "ways" are you good community members? Now, I know they are a private liberal arts Christian school. They don't *have* to be open to the community using their facilities. We don't pay for them. But how can you call yourself open, inviting, and a good community member if you don't do some or all of these things? Two stars means, "meh, I've experienced better." That's a good description of this suburban school. I guess I expect more out of a small liberal arts college. read more

This is a good place to get a quality education. Most of the professors on campus are kind and willing to work with you. Some of the online professors are not great though. Things should be run more effectively though. Oftentimes things are made harder than need be in terms of scholarships, class schedules and events. Also, don't like that not coming to class counts against your grade. If you are paying for it and making good grades, I don't think it is the right of a university to tell you you have to come to class. Some teachers will even go so far as to fail you if you miss more than a few classes a semester- on the other end of the spectrum, some don't care about attendance at all. read more

I left messages, all to just get an admission advisor to assist me with the M.Ed program. Guess they closed down, or do not need any students to attend. I have nothing but good things to say about my school! Concordia has been an incredible transition coming from ACC. The professors truly care about each of their students. Student Central is helpful and they always have your best interest in mind. It's pretty easy to get things done around here; for instance, some of my A&P credits did not transfer in and after filling out a form, they accepted my classes within a matter of 1 or 2 days. They also have a killer nursing program! I was surprised to hear that many people don't apply to the program, compared to most schools, b/c you will be put on a waitlist for 2 years at ACC, UT, and TX state. That's insane to me... but Concordia really is a great place if you are looking for a welcoming environment that you can grow in. You won't get that elsewhere (for the most part)! Not to mention, the campus is absolutely beautiful situated on a nature preserve. read more
