A great way to get your hands dirty (literally) learning pottery. We signed up for the 90-minute pottery basics class since I have never done pottery in my life. The class consists of 30 min of the instructor/owner Christina showing you the ropes while you follow along and the rest of the time, you can use it to practice your newly acquired knowledge and create your masterpieces. You can sign up for the class through their website or Groupon (we got a pretty good deal for a pair of tickets). Each person would get 3 balls of clay for the whole session. The class size is small so you get a pretty focused attention from Christina and you could easily see what she's doing. She's a really good instructor; telling you the little tricks or minor adjustments that she was doing that you might not notice. If you are a total beginner like I was, I would recommend looking up some basic pottery videos prior to the class if you really want to maximize your time here. I did not do that and I forgot the in-between steps (even though the outline was written on the board) that would make your clay more malleable. But I still had a lot of fun doing it. After the class, you get to select one piece that you'd want to take home and that piece would be cooked (is this the right term?) and would be ready in a few weeks. You can also add additional pieces for a fee. I loved the experience and would love to learn more about pottery. Thank you for the great time, Christina!

A fun and welcoming class! Instructor (Cristina) made the experience easy to understand and enjoyable. Can't wait to see the finished product!!

I had the most amazing time at cone 6 ceramics, a few of us ladies met up for a paint and praise night, the atmosphere was so nice, worship playing in the background while we painted a bowl, Cristina was super helpful and very sweet. Overall we had a great experience will definitely be returning with more friends.

I absolutely loved attending the paint and praise night. It was so nice to be around so many Christian women doing what I love, painting and worshipping. This is such a brilliant idea and I love the space. The owner/host was so lovely. I will definitely come back for a future ceramics class.

Cristina made us believe it was possible to create pottery and then we actually did thanks to her instructions and hands on help! She demonstrated the entire process then demonstrated each step and after each step she stopped and watched or assisted each of the 8 of us in the class. By the end we all had very nice pieces!

Great intro to throwing class with David! He was very patient with us and was very attentive to each person in the class. We were able to finish 3 ceramics from the amount of clay that was provided! The studio is very big and spacious for the workshops! I'd definitely come back again! Parking is not that bad and there's free street parking next to the studio. Definitely recommend taking a ceramics class here!

We had an exec offsite here to get our creative juices flowing and it was a lot of fun! Jaundis was our instructor and she was amazing! She was very clear with her instructions and was super helpful. She made everything look really easy when it wasn't but it definitely inspired me to take classes so I can get on her level. We used 3 clay balls each and were able to make really cool stuff! It can take 2-4 weeks before your creations are ready for pick up. I would recommend this activity for any team building event. It was one of the most enjoyable offsites we've done!

Best date idea!!! My husband and I did a class together and it was so special! I would recommend for any couple or friend group activity!

Had a really fun time here today with my friends for the 90-minute beginner class. Our teacher, Jaundis, was super helpful and clear with her instructions when guiding us through each step. You get three pieces of clay for you to shape and after you create your pieces, you can pick a glaze. This has been such a fun bonding experience with my friends. Can't wait to see the finished pieces!

I came here for the first time today for my friend's bachelorette party. It was so much fun! We made flower pressed charcuterie boards. The staff were great and very accommodating. I definitely recommend taking a class here if you get a chance!

Pottery Painting at The Hot Spot in Liberty Station…read more We took our team of 15 to do pottery painting and it pains me to say that for groups, it was a bit of a let down. I've been here before with a friend and I'd say this location/company does better with smaller groups and not larger groups. I pre-booked our reservation and when we arrived, they had our large table with the paper on it with most things needed except paper towels. The seats felt really close together even with fitting all 15 of us so some had to sit on other tables since it's pretty crammed. For groups over 6 (I believe it was), they charge a 15% service charge and I completely understand and am happy to pay it if a decent experience is provided but it was basically self-service so I'm wondering what should have been included. The employee introduced herself who was "assigned to us" and handed out the cards to put paint on and added our pottery selections to her notepad. That was the extent of her help. I ended up going around to our table asking if anyone needed paper towels (since they weren't provided) or more paint. If our table was a small group, I could see that not being necessary but we were a large group who was paying a premium. The employee didn't come back to check on us as it got close to finishing. I went up to get ready to check out and find out where everyone needs to bring over their pottery and the employee remembered that people should write their initials with a special pencil. It was a bit disorganized and I had higher expectations with what we were paying. Is the service fee just for the extra paper on the tables because the other groups/individuals who didn't "get someone assigned to them" got the same level of service our group did. Our reservation was in the early afternoon and with this July heat, it did get hot. The shop had doors and windows open but 1 small fan in the corner of the room that didn't make much of an impact. I'd suggest more fans because this place makes great margins for what they offer. Overall, I wouldn't suggest this place for a group activity over 6 people. The service isn't worth it for the service fee. You're better off to have the group go in as individuals unfortunately.

While I walked away with new skills and 4 pieces that I am proud of, I found Misha's style of instruction difficult to follow and unpleasant at times. Misha began the first class by telling us that she will intervene if she notices our projects going south. However, on multiple occasions she purposefully stayed quiet when a student was having trouble and then when it was too late to save the piece, she said, "I was waiting for you to ask a question." This resulted in students having to scrap their projects without time to retry. I understand that Misha aims to strike a balance between hands-on assistance and letting students figure things out on their own, but her lack of intervention felt like punishment for not following her instructions well enough. I also found it challenging that Misha structured her classes by verbally explaining all of the tasks of the day at the beginning of class. After this intro, she did not speak much for the rest of the class. During several classes, she began to work on personal projects and did not seem approachable for questions. I would have appreciated a few more demonstrations and for instructions to be repeated throughout the class. Because this was a class intended for beginners, I expected a bit more patience and active involvement from Misha. The 5-week course was structured well and allowed students to learn the entire process making ceramics, but the style of instruction made the course harder than it had to be.

I liked that the classes were structured around specific projects as it gave us direction in our learning, however I felt Misha did not always have the patience that is required when working with a class of beginners. I think she sometimes got overwhelmed working with the students (completely understandable as 5/7 students in the class had zero experience with pottery) but she allowed this to negatively affect her instruction and often became short when asked basic questions about projects/next steps. There was very little time allocated for experimentation and students were taught to only do things one particular way (Eg. Centering, opening up). While this was likely due to time constraints, alternatives do exist and when myself/other students would inquire about modifications when steps weren't clicking or something went wrong with our piece, Misha would tell us to "figure it out" or to trash our piece entirely. She also began every class ignoring students as we entered and only broke her silence once 3+ students had greeted her. I was able to create some pieces I am really proud of in the course, and I did learn a lot, but it didn't feel like an environment where I could truly enjoy myself and explore the craft. There is no doubt that Misha is talented, however I don't think she enjoys teaching, at least not beginners. I was hoping for a welcoming environment, and am discouraged to say Ho/Co often felt a bit hostile. Perhaps my timing was bad as I know Misha released a new collection on her Etsy shop during this time and maybe felt overwhelmed due to order volume? She often worked on pieces for sale during classes, so maybe she had too much on her plate and our class was simply a casualty of this. Regardless of the cause, I unfortunately would not recommend Misha's courses and will be trying out a new studio.

Our instructor taught us how to start working with our clay, demonstrated how to do it, worked with us, helped us out, showed us different techniques and steps on how to form our pottery. It's was definitely more challenging this time around because I think we didn't have to do as much in our last class we did. My boyfriend said he didn't like the pace of the class and having to work with a whole class. Our last class had less people so it was more intimate and slower, as for this class it was a little bit more of a faster pace. In the end we made 2 pieces. First one was like a practice piece and the second one was when you kind of got the hang of it and the final product looked better. We were only able to take one piece home. Our instructor said she typically does 2 pieces because she teaches faster but we are only able to take one. Honestly, I didn't like my first one too much so I was okay with that but I know some other people in the class wanted to take both. After you are done you have to clean up everything and put everything away. Then you chose the color glaze you want from a choice of 4 or 5. They glaze it for you then they tell you when it's ready for pick up. We are not from SD but it's an excuse to come back down to pick up our pottery.

We ended up opting for these cute heart-shaped bowls. Even though I live in NY, they were so accommodating and were able to prep the piece so it could safely make the trip back home with me. They were just so nice! It's all about the views, the incredibly helpful staff, and the immaculate vibes. Vibe: Cozy, welcoming, and effortlessly charming art café located in the mall. You walk in and the employee will give you a run down on the process. If you want to take your ceramic home the same day, you can use acrylic paint, if you don't mind waiting you can choose to glaze it and there is a $5 firing fee. We chose to do glaze and wait a 1-2 weeks and they texted us when it was ready. (Only took a week) In terms of inventory, they have cute Knick knack ceramics you can make or kitchenware like plates, bowls, coasters, etc. I also saw people painting canvases so you really do have a lot of options if you're looking for a fun craft day. Pro tip: do multiple layers if you're gonna do glaze. I'd recommend at least 3, but 4 or 5 if you have the time.
