I had an amazing time at The Hot Spot in 4S Ranch!!…read more I took my friend for her birthday and we had a blast. A fun, creative art workshop where you can pick from a variety of options from painting pottery to making candles to building your own garden pot. The prices are clearly written on the item and it's all inclusive (the item, all materials, and use of their facility) so no additional fees other than tax. Most items were between $20-35. The owner was friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of free parking in the large shared lot. You're allowed to bring your own drinks and food as well. We opted to make candles and it was really fun. You start with picking out your glassware, then cutting up the colored wax pieces you want to use and fill them in your glassware, then choosing which glitter color and scent you want. They pour hot wax to mold it all together and the candles ready to go within 15 mins. A great activity for all ages including adults. This would be a great option for any type of celebration, date night, hang out with friends, or spending time with your kids. There's something for everyone.

Mellissa, the owner, was super understanding and allowed us to come in late, and she very graciously stayed open just for our party. We had explained that we were on a tight schedule and did not know if we would be able to come in the next day, but once we arrived, she was very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this spot if you are ever in the area. It was perfect for our occasion!

I chose a small sushi plate ($38) and ended up spending 3 hours choosing the colors, chatting and painting. The employees mostly leave you be (which I appreciate) and are super knowledgeable about the process if you have any questions. After you're done, drop off the item with the employee to fire up your items and you should get a call around 3-5 days later. Overall a pleasant experience and place to hangout and chill with your buddies.

When I arrived, it looks like the event was going on during regular business hours open to the public and not private which made it difficult to tell who was participating in the actual event. Since it was my first time there, I thought the staff would give me a brief rundown after checking in and paying... instead, I was left to figure it out until I finally had to ask what's the protocol here. That rubbed me the wrong way! I also noticed the staff had their friends there too and it was a distraction instead of staff being attentive to customers especially new ones. Another staff came in a bit later and started to interact with us and provided the information I wanted to hear from the very start. She seemed more seasoned than the other staff I encountered earlier. She really turned things around and this event ended up to be not bad at all. She actually saved this review from being a 1-star.

You pick out the unfinished piece you want, gather your paint and supplies from the shelf, and then spend a couple hours painting them and turn them in for final firing. The pieces are priced reasonably -- it includes all supplies and the final firing. My friend chose a mug that holds a cookie on the bottom and decided to transform it into a likeness of her pug dog-- see the photo... Mine was much more tame-- I picked out a small geometric vase and ended up painting it an ombre shade of an earthy purple. We sat and enjoyed the experience and they offer a concierge type service-- they cleaned up everything for us! Very chill and fun evening- will do again .

The selection was low the day we painted, but on the day we picked up the selection was plenty with well stocked shelves. Brushes and cups of water are already neatly set up at the tables. The only thing you have to do is get your paint in the bottled containers. Little hands may need assistance with this or leave it to the adults to prep the paint dish. I really like the space in the Art Cafe. There is plenty of room between each table. It may be different with more customers (we were the only ones on this weekday visit). But even then, I think there is more plenty of space you don't have to worry bumping into someone. I find all ceramic cafes to be a bit pricey but this is something to do once in awhile. I find it therapeutic and I love to watch the kids paint and be creative with their piece. Great bonding time with someone or good, quiet creative time for just yourself. Go check them out.

They setup a…read moreL-shape table and a few staffs standing there teaching the visitors how to make flower with color fabrics. At first, I was standing on the side watching them. It looked very interesting so I decided to sit down and had some fun! One of the staffs, she already started teaching a younger girl (about 12-14 years old) and I sat right next to her . I felt being discriminated by the staff's attitude towards me. I wasn't sure if it was because the younger girl's age or because her parents were with her. For example, the staff would give her very detail instruction and even demonstrated how to do it. When it was my turn, she wasn't really put in effort to teach me. It was my first time learning how to do this too!! When I asked her questions, her reply was, "you can do whatever & be creative....."?? Huh? At least show me how to do it first , once I know it, I can be more creative later. When the younger girl and her parents were ready to leave, she told them about the company and give them a company brochure. I thought now she would have more time to focus on me. I was wrong... she started chatting with another staff about taking lunch break?? I was struggling how to make the fabrics look like "flower"!! I asked her, "I am having hard time making a flower shape???" She said to me, "You will get there eventually.....". Really??? If that is the way she is teaching the class, I will never recommend anyone to go there. When I stood up and ready to leave, she didn't talk about anything about the company or even gave me a brochure. I was very disappointed how different she treated me. I regret that I didn't ask for her name because I think it is important for the business owner, Elena Lai Etcheverty, to know about how her staff treat people differently. All her staffs represent the first impression of the company.

Visiting the art center in San Marcos as an individual or with a group. 3. Coordinating an event. I coordinated an event with them. They have a 6000 square foot warehouse very close to CSUSM on Industrial rd. It's easy to miss. Upon entering I was blown away by the plethora of art supplies. The people who work there will gladly give you a tour, explaining how everything was donated. I met Elena at CSUSM during while she was recruiting volunteers to make "letters of hope" for young women in the hospital with anorexia and for women in homeless shelters. I was intrigued, sat down and made a letter. I asked questions about the charity and I was blown away by the generosity of others. This meeting seemed like it was meant to be. I was planning a fundraiser event and needed a venue. Elena gave me her information and before I knew it I was planning a fun run and art project event with them. I mainly worked with Libbi, as Elena was busy. Libbi was so kind, helpful and was always on the same page as I. Having an event with Charity Wings was a WIN-WIN situation. I planned on charging for my event and had hoped for more in attendance. We didn't end up making any $ to contribute my specific charity, but we did donate to the Charity wings foundation with 25% of our proceeds. With that 25% we had access to the 6000 sq foot warehouse. We made a collaborative art project. We had a large picture and then small papers that each participant could decorate to add to the larger picture. They set out glitter, buttons, feathers, beads and markers to play with. Libbi and a few of the other staff took care of everything inside the warehouse and gave me free reign of the outdoor space, which is HUGE. We had a bounce house and two monitor speakers playing music. Someone participated in the fun run and suffered from heat illness, and they kindly took care of him until he felt better. Libbi is quite motherly. If I ever plan on having another event, I surely will do it here. Again, it's a Win-win situation. Stress free for sure. So for the other experiences, if you have a non-profit organization, you are able to go here and do art for free as a group, simply call ahead and plan your event. For other individuals: $10/hour regular adult, $8/hour student. They also have membership options $5/hour or $20 per day With admission you get access to all art supplies. This is definitely the place to go if you want to try out a new medium. The staff will guide and assist you as much to their knowledge will allow. They have pottery, metal working, paints, scrap booking, ect. They even have artists rental areas... I can't say anything negative about this place. I hope to work with Charity Wings again soon.
