The only, and I say only negative I could come away with was the dining chairs. The atmosphere and location say "come relax and enjoy the view and tranquility of the farm" but the dining chairs say "eat your food and get out." Metal chairs with no padding and slightly too low for the table. Would love to go back. Especially when the weather is cooler, but could you get some padding for the chairs? Is it covid related? Do not bother visiting! I really wanted to like this place because it is so highly hyped. Exploring the farm after paying the separate additional fee will be fun for those who like the outdoors. However, this restaurant failed where it matters the most. It turned out to be an over-priced, underwhelming experience when it came to the food! In the end, I felt that I was charged haute cuisine prices for Denny's quality food. I got the Florida Chicken, which is basically a crispy fried chicken served in a bun; the chicken was over-fried and tough. The chef must have had a good laugh when he was plating the Strawberry Salad from the main course menu; for $19, the portion size was literally 4 bites of salad doused in dressing! I would not recommend this place unless, of course, you are into these trendy, pretend-hipster vibes that the restaurant is trying to cater to. read more

Growing up near this property I couldn't imagine how they would turn an old cow field into a fancy winery. They have really made a nice establishment here. It still has a rustic feel but the menu and food give off different vibes. Dogs are also allowed to eat table side with you! I wore a dress, long coat, and nice boots although I did see others in leggings and tennis shoes. For drinks we did the cider flight and a bottle of Cabernet. For appetizers we ordered the duck & oysters. For entrees we ordered the Yard Bird & the Fresh Catch, which was flounder. For dessert we shared the fig cake. The total was almost $300, tip included. My friends and I came with different expectations of their fall on the farm and wish their website offered more information. We visited last Saturday with a large group of friends both local and visiting from out of town with the hops of finding a place to have lunch, get a pumpkin patch experience and see some animals for the kiddos. We looked online and saw food trucks/ live music/ pumpkin patch/ animals/ etc. Upon arrival, the farm is beautiful but there were no food trucks and no music which felt odd on a Saturday. We bought our farm passes and inquired and were told the food trucks start at 4 and it was 12 pm. We had hungry kiddos with us and although the restaurant had several empty tables that remained unoccupied during our visit, we were told they were booked out fully for the day. While we were trying to figure out the food situation, the kids were waiting in on of the tables with a fire pit and got absolutely eaten up by ants. It was awful! We quickly took pictures with the pumpkins and animals and left. Pumpkin "patch" is strange too with not a ton of them and just kind of scattered out with no pricing or someone working there to help us purchase pumpkins. It's also a really long walk from the pumpkins to the check in desk at the front where I assume you'd purchase a pumpkin. Our group opted to just get in and out and find somewhere near by for lunch. Disappointing experience but would consider coming back to eat dinner without the kids. If you're looking for a day at the farm type of experience, skip this or go later in the afternoon/ evening. read more

Highly recommend! I came here to pick blackberries & the experience did not disappoint! We purchased farm passes ahead of time ($5 each) and then blackberry baskets for $7 each. We enjoyed a walk to the blackberry field where we stopped along the way to swing on a tree swing and look at the goats. The blackberry field had so many berries to choose from, we enjoyed meandering through the rows of bushes, filling up our baskets. I will definitely be back to pick figs in August! read more

Congaree and Penn is A WHOLE VIBE. So much more than a restaurant-- it's a farm but also has a beautiful huge patio, indoor seating, and fire table seating (which I highly recommend). The menu is obviously seasonal but still has fantastic variety. Six of us went out on a holiday weekend for dinner and were each able to find something to our liking. The duck pasta honestly blew me away with the surprisingly rich depth of flavor. They have a comprehensive drink menu as well and the ambiance is 100. Keep in mind they ask for adults only in the evening but I can imagine it's very kid friendly during the day. We sat in the patio area on a July evening and felt comfortable. I had the loveliest time at Congaree and Penn! I genuinely thought I had taken a wrong turn because of how far out this place is, but when I got there, I realized it was breathtakingly beautiful. There's a little check-in area at the front, as well as a bar. We were checked in and seated immediately. Our service from start to finish was very quick, which I appreciated! We started with the fish dip, and while I'm generally not a fan, it was very good. Consider me impressed. We both went with the shrimp and grits for our entrees. This was a GREAT choice. Their shrimp and grits are some of the best I've ever had. My mouth waters just thinking about them. After lunch, we walked around for a while and just enjoyed the space. There's so much greenery that it literally felt like a breath of fresh air. We got to see goats, chickens, horses, and even emus! Very cool opportunity. Congaree and Penn is truly a gem in Jacksonville. Word on the street is that they're building space for a flower market, and I very much look forward to coming back for that. Oysters were well cooked, the chorizo gave them a beautiful, rich flavor. The salsa verde added just a touch of freshness on top. Hubby ordered the braised short rib. Some of the best short rib ever! So tender that it just melted in your mouth. The smashed potatoes were executed perfectly and salted just right. I really liked the charred broccolini, too. I ordered the shrimp & grits. Fabulous! The ambiance of this place was so romantic and lights everywhere, now this was around Christmas so I'm not sure if the lights are up all year but they were beautiful. Awesome experience. We had an 8:15PM reservation and got there around 7 to check out the farm. They had ostriches (!!!), horses, goats and ducks hanging out in fenced pastures. You could pay extra to pick blackberries or sunflowers but both of those are seasonal so I would check beforehand. We grabbed a blackberry cider that they make onsite while we waited for our table. The cider was fantastic, not sweet at all. Reminded me of a sour beer. We were seated right on time and our waiter was superb. Appetizers were the homemade bread and butter, the cheese board, and the cornbread. All three were great and I would order again, but the homemade bread and butter was my favorite. About half of the people at our table ordered the shrimp and grits as their entree, myself included, and it did not disappoint. The grits are very course and creamy and the shrimp is served on top with an amazing red sauce. When you arrive to a secluded gravel driveway off an unassuming country road you'd never expect to be met by a giant silo containing a topnoch restaurant with local food and house made cider. Yes, house made cider! Let all the gluten-free drinkers rejoice. There are acres of grounds to wander which my fiancé and I are looking forward to returning to explore. Went to Congaree and Penn Saturday and was not disappointed. A bit of a drive from the beaches we made our reservation a couple of weeks in advance to score a fireside table. The ambiance was perfect and though the table offered us plenty of privacy the amazing staff never forgot about us. We began with the pumpkin cornbread (forgot to snag a pic before devouring!). For the main course I had the shrimp and grits and my boyfriend had the chicken. The shrimp and grits was outstanding and the chicken was the best chicken I've ever had. I normally hate the idea of ordering chicken at a restaurant (booooring) but this was truly exceptional and is making me second guess every decision I've ever made. This was such a cool side track for lunch. My friend/host in Jacksonville had been wanting to go here for a while. It did not disappoint. They have a fully farm attached to the restaurant that you can stroll around, which we did. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, the outdoor is covered in a huge metal half pipe. The service and the vibe is definitely farmhouse chic. The food was amazing. The fried chicken sandwich was crunchy, juicy, and perfectly spicy. The spring green salad was both seasonal, bright, with a light vinaigrette. Shrimp ceviche salad was fresh and citrusy and a nice counterpoint to the summer heat. **Brunch and Farm review** We have seen this place raved about on Instagram, Facebook and it's on the ale trail passport. However for us it gets 2 stars.. For those that don't know reservations are required. There is an option to picnic in the farm which looks really nice. But I would think spring/summer it's much prettier then the winter time frame as all the vines were in off season, and some things looked over grown and not maintained. This is definitely the Instagram/social media spot to be to grab great trendy photos! They advertise having family hours and being family friendly during select times but personally I wouldn't bring my kids back here. As the wait staff were not family friendly. Constant eye rolling, when asked for things like extra paper napkins, a high chair and to sit closer to the shaded area (where there were open tables) so that was disappointing. For the food and drink prices I would have thought it would be plated differently but it was just okay. My food in particular was clearly over cooked. But everyone else at our table did have better looking food. There was a sign that said "farm friends coming into the farm store/bar is asked to wear a mask" but the staff wasn't even wearing masks.. so how can you ask others to and then not have them on your staff? Overall if I was to go back and try to get reservations I think it would be for dinner. Not with our son since it's outside of the "family hours" and hope that the food isn't over cooked. read more

Definitely not what we expected, in a good way! Congaree and Penn is a huge farm, agrotourism is what they call it. Huge fields of grape vines, open grass, beautiful live oak trees. There are goats, ducks, chickens, emus, and horses too. We saw a family feeding the goats and chickens. It is a paid experience. To visit the farm there is a cover charge, $8 for adults. We saw tons of people with dogs there. There was plenty of land to let the doggies runs free. The sign at the front says there are more than 350 acres of land. Lots of rocking chairs and picnic tables are spread throughout. There is a high end restaurant on the grounds. If you have reservations at the restaurant you are not charged the cover fee. We didn't eat but we saw some plates being served to guests. The food looked great! Restaurant seating was outdoors but under cover. Lots of heaters kept any chill at bay. Pre-made picnic lunches are available to purchase onsite. There is a small indoor bar serving wine and cider. The cider is made on-site from grapes they grow on the farm. We had a cider flight. There were four flavors: honey, mixed berry, muscadine, and persimmon. The mixed berry was our favorite but all were superb. I was bad about taking pictures but we will return soon! read more

Their menu is seasonal/rotating, so they didn't have an entree I'd seen a picture of, but I mainly wanted shrimp, so I added it on. That was actually what I ate for my main dish. I had a salad and added the grilled shrimp. I was surprised about the salad, haha, the picture of the piece in the fork solidified that it is certainly farm to table because the root was still attached and was huge lol. So yeah, the veggies aren't cut up and all cutesy and stuff. It was okay. Just okay. Now the shrimp were perfect! Just enough seasoning but not overdone. Grilled to perfection too. Chef's kiss. I mean, I felt like the chef must love me to send out such perfect shrimp Lol. I paid for em though, lol. The appetizer was just as good to eat as it was to order. I kept saying Oaxaca focaccia all night. It was good. I've never had the Oaxacan cheese before, just knew of the Mexican city. The bread was good, complimented the cheese well. This is a beautiful farm with a lovely restaurant and cidery! We arrived at 10:45 before our 11:30 appointment in order to walk around the farm. We checked in and ordered some cider and tea to stroll with. We saw some goats, baby Emu, chickens, and horses! Our toddler loved it. Great idea to have a farm-to-table restaurant in Jacksonville. The problem comes with the delivery. Had the grits. Tasteless and the texture was a solid glop. The artichoke was tasty. The $45 short ribs were soooooo nonexistent, so you have to satisfy yourself with the sauce. Bread is a la carte and each portion is 1.5 slices. Didn't find any of the fruit the waitress said was in the bread. The $80/person bill apparently is not to pay for the food but rather for the tremendous costs of the overhead. Can't say good enough things about Congaree and Penn. I didn't have any complaints about my experience here. Everything from the dining experience to the amazing property are all things I would rave about if I wanted to persuade someone to come. You might imagine a different experience when you hear that you'll be eating on a farm but Congaree and Penn is nothing like what you might have thought. We were able to walk around the property and see everything from fig trees, grapevines, goats, and amazing trees covered with Spanish moss that would probably offer one of the best backgrounds for a couples photo. We came for dinner but I'd encourage you to get there early to walk the property before the sun goes down. Because we had a reservation we did not have to pay an entrance fee so I'd also recommend doing that as well to avoid paying any extra money. Now the food! The food was all delicious! Nothing was overly spiced or drenched with marinade. I felt that because the ingredients here are so fresh they do the speaking for themselves. A lot of what they make comes from the farm. You're server can tell you more. The smoked short rib is a popular item and after ordering it I can see why. It was very good and the use of a knife was not necessary as pulling the meat apart with my fork alone did the trick, extremely tender. I also really enjoyed the rice middlins underneath it. A must try! We also did the Bread and Butter and Beef Tartar as appetizers and they were also amazing! I liked the beet tartar the most. Was never a huge fan of beets but eating this way, I can get behind. I was totally disappointed with the stipulation of not allowing separate checks, we are a party of 3 couples. Some order much alcohol & some do not. I explained via email (which by the way were always rapidly replied to) that it was our 50th Wedding Anniversary & yet there was no care to work with me. Well in the end, I've heard the service is slow so I think for sure that I'm so happy not to spend our anniversary there. Who would have thought dining on a farm would be so different and fun. That's the best way to describe this place. First off, if you come when it's busy, you get to occupy your time by walking the farm and petting live animals. If that's not your thing, sit next to the fire pit with a local cider or wine and start up a good conversations with great company. I came here for a birthday lunch in late December. I am always incredibly early compare to my party, so I spent my time waiting with a glass of prosecco in a rocking chair overlooking the farm. It was chilly, but there's something magical about having a glass of bubbly and staying warm. For the birthday lunch, most of my party decided on the most decadent of foods, fried chicken, sliders, biscuits, cheese, braised pork, etc. But for me, I am being a little healthy and went with the farmhouse salad and the local ciders. I am not one to really eat salads, but this was one of the most refreshing and delightful salads I have had. It was chilled, crisp, healthy, tasty, and satisfying. Just a bowl of happiness. It made me feel great instead of heavy and also not feel like I was missing out on something. The local ciders are definitely the way to go for beverages. We had a wonderful and different date night out. It was excellent. The fish was good. They had a good serving of fried flounder, with cornbread and their salad was really good. The property is 327 acres but the downfall is we did not know the sunset tractor ride was not included in our fish fry. But we still did the sunset ride anyways. Got to pick the wildflower field and take some flowers home. It was a little pricey but I've been wanting to come here for a while and I'm glad we were able to go. They don't allow walk ins like a regular restaurant, you have to make reservations. Farm to table food was good. I actually liked their rice grits and normally I'm not a grit eating person.
