I have had varying results in that time, ranging from above expectations to well below them. Thomas (the owner of this business) is the new benchmark for everything you hope to avoid. Initially, he was very responsive -- happy to show pictures of prior work and present options for what was to be achieved in my project. One of the examples he presented appeared to be almost exactly what I had envisioned and I indicated I liked both the stamped concrete pattern and the color of the finished work, which was very dark grey -- nearly black. We proceeded with the project, but when I saw "the finished work," I noticed pretty swiftly that the color of the walkway was a tan-ish salmon color. Additionally, the pattern of the stamped concrete was nowhere close to what I agreed to. So, an entirely different walkway than what I had been seeking. I am more than agreeable when it comes to situations like this, almost to a fault. I will actively allow mistakes or miscommunication to go unchecked and work with someone to achieve the closest thing to the goal as possible. As such, I'm not rude (or even stern, usually) with those I've hired. I explained that the walkway was not what I had asked for. I indicated that I could make my peace with the pattern if the color was more in line with what I wanted. He advised he would "take care of it." In the days to come, he put some dye on the walkway to cover up the mistake; though, the pinkish color continued to show throughout the walkway no matter how much extra dye he put on it, which I now know would continue to wash away more and more in the coming months and almost none of the dye added to the finished walkway would retain. It is, generally speaking, back to being nearly its initial color in its entirety. I messaged him with requests to find a resolution (maybe once a week as to not be a burden) and these messages were all ignored. Eventually, after painstaking efforts, I took him to court. He did not show up. I won by default and now have a lien on his business. He left filthy, used tools on the property. He did not place any ground back around the walkway and left it clumped up throughout the yard. The steps themselves are crooked. He created a huge stain from the concrete dye on the retaining wall and, somehow, the mailbox. I could write pages on pages elaborating how much of a disaster this project was but this is my best effort to keep it concise. This experience with Thomas has changed my approach to how I deal with contractors moving forward. He was more than happy to scam his way through this entire job and made every effort to get out of it without standing by his work. If anyone reads this, I cannot urge you enough to vacate any arrangements you've made with him and seek assistance with your project(s) elsewhere.
