I've worked at a few other tutoring centers prior to the Bodhi Academy, but what really makes the Bodhi Academy unique and has inspired me to stay and grow as an educator here is its emphasis on the practice of mindfulness. In practicing mindfulness, students are encouraged to pause, breathe, and smile at the sound of the bell--being aware of our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions in the present moment--and make choices that are beneficial to ourselves personally and those around us. Students practice self-awareness in more depth in daily guided relaxations in which they scan each part of the body to know how they are feeling. Students also develop gratitude for their food in mindful snacking, in which we dedicate five minutes of silence to appreciate and enjoy our snacks fully then practice sharing in responding to the question of the day to get to know each other and build community. In between these practices are times dedicated to homework completion support as well as academic enhancement, so students understand their current lessons and can be prepared for upcoming lessons. Teachers in each classroom dedicate attention for each student and do our best to support students in the academic learning and personal growth. At the end of each day, we provide various activities from art to board games as well as yoga that allow students to explore their creativity, mental/physical health, and self-expression. Much research has shown the practicing mindfulness improves academic and socio-emotional skills. Though I learned about the practice of mindfulness later in life, it has helped me to manage the stress that comes with transitioning to work and adulthood, and I am certain that for students who practice mindfulness diligently early on in life, they can be more resilient in taking steps towards their future in a positive direction. My child goes there for almost two years, nothing accomplished beside just babysitting your child. Every time I ask if the staffs check and help my child with their homework, the staffs reply that they refuse to do it. As a tutoring staffs working there, their duties is to making sure that all students homework has been completed. That's goal..! And that's how they got paid. They kept mention nonprofit organization and we don't make money. Common.. I'm not naive. There are much more to says.. Overall this place is terrible. I will never refer anyone that I know to take their child for after school program at this place. Anywhere but simply not "Bodhi Academy".
