I get it's the DMV, but in all honesty it was a breeze to get in and get out. Using their website I scheduled a 10:10AM appointment to renew my driver's license and I was out of there by 10:35. It went smoothly. I came in and was able to access my ticket, then I sat and waited for them to call me. The staff was quick and responsive. They had a smile on their face and processed me quickly. The way things are done is not right. I was left standing in line for 30 plus minutes waiting to be taken with an appointment. The lady tells me that she has to take the other person first (they where there after me) and that I will be next. However, now someone else comes and she did not take me she took the other person. So I asked her, I was here waiting for X amount of time. She points and tells me that someone is going to be calling me but there wasn't anyone there. Now, at this point there are 3 more people behind me. and the other line is just moving right alone. So the chair she pointed to a lady comes and she calls for the next person, I go and she tells me no not you , him. I'm like I been standing here for 30 minutes and she goes on to tell me that I need to wait to be called. as they go on and take everyone else in line. How does that make sense. So I continue to wait, now there is no one in the other line and the 1st lady gets up and leaves. so not only did you skip me multiple times and was rude when you spoke to me, now there is no one here but me and the people behind me and you get up and leave. To then come back and chat with your coworker. It was definitely done on purpose. Two Spanish ladies. Once I finally did get called by a gentleman who kept looking at the two Spanish ladies because of how rude they was being he was very kind and apologized for them. However, he shouldn't have had to do that. If you work dislike your job don't do it (you picked it) but you work with people, you have to know how to communicate. The set u of the 2 line and having both people take from one line as the other stands there regardless of how many minutes it's been or how many people come to the other line is not right. Literally left in tears. Do not come here to renew your license. Just learned that you can go to the Norwalk DMV and it's a quicker process. You will wait over 1.5 hours and leave with the fugliest photo of yourself for the next 6 years because the person at the counter was straight up rude and nasty that you won't be able to force a smile to have a decent ID photo. You have been warned! I came in with very low expectations and knew that I would have to wait. I just didn't expect to get to the window and to have someone be so mean. I asked a few common questions and got the rudest responses. I was confused and didn't think it was warranted the treatment I received. Not everyone is horrible there. The online system user interface is terrible. Way too many required inputs to just check the schedule for appointments. And make sure you have a confirmation number or you can't check the schedule later and my appointment got lost. Waiting 2 weeks for a routine matter is the norm. And forget about speaking to a human on the phone unless you take the day off because you'll get hung up on and wait on hold multiple times. But the humans and answering the phones are at least reasonable people. Too bad the commissioner decided to give the people of the state a terrible online and appointment experience. read more

I arrived today for an appointment with my son, who was testing for his learner's permit. The woman who took our documents exhibited the sort of rudeness people associate with the DMV. My offense? I absent-mindedly "wet a finger" to sort through my paperwork before I presented it to her. It was a dry finger, actually. She warned me not to do that, because -- her words -- "when you do that, now I have to handle the paper." I apologized briefly. She then asked for more proof of residency than I had supplied (a bank statement and a 1099 form). I pointed to the date on the statement, but I must have done the finger thing without thinking, because she warned me a second time -- rather sternly. I didn't respond to this, but said, "would you like to see my driver's license? It shows my address." The state form asks for TWO ways to prove residency, and I provided three, to satisfy this martinet behind the window. I get it -- there's been a big Covid scare and everyone's a germaphobe now. But my gesture was no worse than a handshake, and I didn't really produce any moisture; it was just a quick, meaningless thing a person does to get a grip on paperwork. Should I ask where this woman's hands have been? The only brusque behavior I'll tolerate from officials is when they carry a badge; otherwise petty bureaucrats with zero ambition and poor social skills like this DMV dolt are duly warned: you work for us! read more

I recently moved from out of state and needed to update my license and registration. I made an appointment and gathered all the required documentation. I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived at DMV. They have a system for ensuring smooth entry. I was sent to Diana C. who processed my paperwork. She was pleasant, efficient, and friendly. I needed to update my insurance with a Connecticut ID card and she patiently waited while I did so, continuing to process other transactions related to my situation. I was then sent to another area for a photo ID. Again, very pleasant experience. Finally, I was sent to Kelly to finalize my transaction. All in all, I was there for about an hour, with some, but not a ridiculous amount, of waiting time. This was a decidedly different experience from my last experience at NY DMV - where they argued with me about my legal name which I'd been using for 35 years!! I would definitely recommend this Connecticut DMV Office - just make sure you have all the required paperwork for your transaction! read more

Attempts to reach the Repair Shop/Dealer Complaint Unit is virtually impossible. They have a phone number however, it's a recording indicating to leave a message however, a message can't be left. It also says to call back at another time as they're assisting another person. Attempts to call at various times of day resulted in the same. Unable to leave message, unable to email, unable to speak with anyone. CT DMV has certainly built a concrete wall around themselves and nobody can get in or speak to them. So much for reporting a shop who has a history of charging people for parts never placed on vehicles, demanding personal bank account information from customers, disposing of old parts before a customer can inspect and never being granted permission from the customer to begin repairs. They just begin the repairs, demand payment and keep the vehicle until their paid. It's obvious, they'll continue to rip-off CT consumers while DMV sits back and does absolutely nothing. the shop doesn't even have a license to conduct business. read more

The DMV is always a bad experience. The people are on edge and impatient, the employees are numb from the countless days of enduring grumpy customers, and the smell of patties is nausea inducing. The tenth circle of hell. My own recent experience resulted in two separate trips since it was determined that one of my supporting documents was out of date. So after waiting in line for an hour and a half I was sent home to dig up further documentation. Upon my return they let me cut the line, which I appreciated. There was an entertaining incident with an angry old woman who was swinging her cane at one of the workers. After about a five hour total trip I had my new drivers license. This was the rudest, most inefficient staff with false superiority complex. They talk louder and over you, insults you to your face and yells at you. Unprofessional, unfriendly, disrespectful demeanor, heard a staff cursing out loud over the phone. If you are new to the state, don't look to them for any kindness, you are expected to just know how they work, and if you don't YOU are the idiot. I paid $302 to transfer drivers license and plates, but I still have to wait 2 weeks for the license to be mailed... ecam license fee is $40 to read 1 line for vision test... all this plus the vehicle property tax! There was only 2 nice staff, that's only because he's new and the other is from Ohio. They all deperately need training in polite human interaction, speaking skills and the whole DMV can learn simple manners from a 6 yr. old. This was the most infuriating process staffed by aggravating and disrespectful people and horrible location. I think their daily goal is to see which employee shows up the most angry keep track of how many people they can pass off reward them for it. There are people who would be happy to work, meet people and get paid for it... but these employees are either too beat down or can't function competently in any other roles... The place is dirty, with stained ceiling, seats and dusty ventilation, overheard staff complaining of mold throughout the building. I want to move out of the state just to not have to go through this ever again. Certainly makes me appreciate Ohio DMV. I've never had to deal with this for 5.5 hours in Ohio. I wish the employees well in getting out of their miserable position and try to find a happier life... there is no reason for anyone to live with such joy-less, unsatisfying and disgruntled way.
