I literally hate going to the DMV in Bridgeport because of how rude the desk people are. I went into the DMV and this front desk lady was so obnoxiously loud for no reason. She was embarrassing me and giving me attitude and loudly explaining my information in front of everyone and her coworkers. Which I did not appreciate. Then she told me to go to the manager which is also a woman and she had the same disgusting attitude like the other lady I encountered. This place is horrible. If I could give it a zero rating I would. There was one lady that helped me her name is kathy and was very respectful and nice. She took care of me and helped me get what I needed to get done. I started the timer on my phone when I walked in the door and stopped it when I left. 4 hours and 3 minutes. I got there 30 minutes before they opened and there were about 50 people in line in front of me. I needed to switch my CA drivers license to a CT license and then register my car in CT for the first time. Service was hit and miss. A few employees were cool and helpful and others were just there. Not rude, not nice, just there. Take a day off if you need to come here. It's a nightmare. read more

I've heard wonderful things about the Old Saybrook branch. I was advised to go there specifically because it is known as one of the better, easier going DMVs. That my experience will be better there than the likes of Willimantic or Norwich. That's all false, as matter of fact: my experience at the Willimantic branch was a 5 star experience. The employees I dealt with directly there were all knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. In Old Saybrook the experience was the polar opposite. DMV faculty there were unfriendly, and although they were apparently knowledgeable didn't give any real, basic, direction. I'd say that is unprofessional. Screw the Old Saybrook office. read more

Well, I had my first two appointments at the Norwich, CT DMV office and they went well. I'm in a bit of a pickle now though. My son and I were gifted a car that was registered in MA so I paid for a 20-day temporary Registration to get the car through emissions. Having a problem getting automobile parts for this 20-year-old car and the Temp plate expires next week. I have booked the earliest appointment for May 12th, today is April 12th. The young man on the phone didn't seem too interested in passing along this information. Not a single DMV office in Connecticut has an appointment for another month. Talk about not being convenient. I waited on hold to see if they can extend the temporary plate but that is not the case. Seems DMV hasn't thought out all the possible scenarios that we encounter since the COVID-19 shutdown. Think DMV will provide a rental car for me until my appointment next month? read more

My cousin and room mate and I moved from one place to another nearby in Bridgeport in March of 2017. The day before we moved we went to Bridgeport DMV to process our change of address. Now, the day after Christmas I realized my CT driver's license expired on 12/17. I never received a renewal notice. I went to Bridgeport DMV today to renew my license. When my turn finally came up (after 2.5 hours) I find that they had NO record of my change of address! I had the sticker on the back of my license with the new address that they had given me back in March when we were there to process our change of address. There is NO excuse for these kinds of mistakes!! We HAVE to be the ones to keep on top of these things, because we can't rely on the CT DMV. Yes, I should have been on top of my license expiration date, but I have ALWAYS received renewal notices in the mail. Lesson learned!!! This review doesn't rate the 1 star I had to give. Bad enough I waited through repeated recordings on the phone with DMV before finally talking to someone! read more

God I hate the DMV. The government just isn't good at running anything. It's expensive, poorly run, chaotic, confusing, crowded, and slow.

Went to the Norwalk DMV for the first time yesterday to transfer an out-of-state license to CT. OMG what a bad experience. First, it took half an hour to score a parking spot in one of the pot-holed DMV lots. I have never seen anything like it: cars lined up from the entrance forward waiting for a car to leave, so a spot can be taken. Then, the odyssey really began. After getting on line and waiting to see a DMV worker to summarize what I needed, I was given a number and sent to a line. I then proceeded to be "helped" by four additional different DMV workers (after waiting four separate times) and paying two different fees (one for an "exam" I was exempted from taking) to get a paper temporary license. All together, about three hours from arrival at the DMV. I am dreading my next required trip to transfer license plates/registrations/titles. TO be fair, all of the DMV peopleI interacted with were friendly and helpful (though I may have been the unusual one who reviewed all of the complicated requirements ahead of time and had all of the proper paperwork in hand). The inefficiencies are far beyond anything I have seen in any other state - the Norwalk DMV looks like it is run the same way it was in the 1970's, with minimal systems and ridiculous procedures which are designed to ensure civil service work and jobs. Just that morning it took under 10 minutes for me to surrender plates in a NY DMV office, where far more things can be done on-line, there are self-service kiosks and newer systems are evident. No wonder CT is bankrupt. read more

My husband has been trying to get his license here in CT for 7 years shortly after he moved here from Puerto Rico. He successfully got his permit at one point, went thru the 280$ course, and went to his driver's license test in Enfield and was a few minutes late (because we took a wrong turn on the way) and was denied the test because he was running no more then 10 minutes late. They told us to reschedule it online. We both had trouble rescheduling the appointment and locked us out of the system because of the pin which was not working when we put the correct pin in. We had to drive to the DMV to get a new pin because the phone number they tell you to call if you have any problems with your pin - no one ever answered the phone!!! By the time we got a new pin his permit had expired since all this happened around covid when everything got shut down. Since then he has failed 3 permit knowledge tests and each one cost 40$ He has spent more money on NOT getting a license then I have over the past 20 years HAVING my license. This state is a big joke when it comes to DMV. It seems like a big scam if you ask me and it's a wonder how many people are driving around unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured! It's not affordable for the average person nevermind if you have to take a day off everytime to go to the DMV & spend the entire paycheck for nothing when you walk out! Please CT - start helping your people legally get back and forth to work so they can pay more of the taxes and fees you want us to pay! read more

I hate this place when it comes to a trip to the DMV I would rather wait an entire year before actually wanting to go to this place and wait the enormous line to hell for about an average 4hrs. The employers were nice tho! Sucks you can't make an appointment time. read more

CT.dmv customer service sucks they requested emissions compliance on audimated phone system I have completely complied passing emissions I checked back and the system was not changed allowing me to renew registration time and time again I tried for weeks and still no changes to allow me to renew registration I then mailed it in but have already now been delayed registration had expired after mailing in the funds and copy of pass emissions compliance thinking I'm all set I get a letter from them two weeks later saying I didn't pay the $10. Late fee and registration has not been renewed yet kept the $105. Dollars I immediately called thinking ok now the audimated system should have been changed to allow me to make a $10 payment no still after 6 weeks of compliance nothing has changed and they say driving the vehicle unregistered is illegal in the letter. Why is any of this my fault if a person can't contact them a real person and they don't change the system to let you pay and they make it difficult and delay you why should I have to be unable to drive to work and take care of a family member with cancer because of their incompetence they should try at least a little to add value and accommodate people now I can't pay over the phone or online and mailed the late fee but can't drive the system is fatally flawed why not answer the phone and fix the specific problem one may have instead of all the red tape and hoops it's so frustrating I see DMV rating's are not good at all read more

I had to give one star to post a review and gave it begrudgingly otherwise it gets no stars, nada, zilch, zero. If I could rate it with minus stars I would give it a -3 The State of Ct. has created a monster for people to be forced to deal with. Up until July 31st, 2017 we had a small DMV in Derby and one in Milford. They're both closed now so going to Bridgeport is guaranteed to be at least a half-day ordeal. Pack a lunch and make sure you use the bathroom before going because if you have to leave the line for that, you're going to have to start all over again at the back of the line.Maybe bring a friend along to save your spot in line. I would like to see Governor Malloy's daughter or wife or any family member go through this nightmare. read more

So while the wait is long, it is bearable because the employees are friendly and helpful! I was pleasantly surprised. Even at 11am on a Saturday after answering the same questions and procedures all week, no one had an attitude. There is even a woman that comes down the long line (that spills out of the building) inquiring why you are there and giving you your ticket and directing you to where you need to be. In addition to them calling out the numbers they have them on the TV and an explanation of what the letter and numbers on your ticket reflect. Which some people didn't read and kept asking them, and they were polite about it. For instance, my number was D616 when I sat and waited to be called they were calling out D797 but because I can read I knew that D700 and up were there for a different reason than myself and I had not been passed over. The facility was clean, organized, and in a great location right off the highway. Maybe because I avoid the DMV like the plague (thank you AAA) I was ecstatic that they now have a credit card reader, although I came prepared with my dusty check book too. I can't really complain about the wait, that is the nature of the beast, it was not a bad experience. I do recommend going around 11am on a Saturday. I initially drove there at 7:45am to find a line that wrapped around the building!! I admire everyone's dedication, it was just too cold for me! There is ample parking too! if i can give this 0 stars i would so the wait is so damn long plus there is babies that keep crying there should be no kids allowed. also the chairs are very uncomfortable which they make you wait in for a long time real pain in the ass just do it online if you could. the people that work here are so damn slow they leave their desks for like 15-20 min then come back each 5 min. we have been here for 2 and a half hours and they haven't spoken to us expect for giving us our ticket that says our number like 3 hours ago. read more
