My wife and I booked a 6 hour inshore charter for striped bass. Captain Kevin and his first mate (Larz) worked hard to make sure we had a successful charter. The boat was clean and well equipped. Captain Kevin and his first mate gave clear and detailed instructions on how to catch the bait, cast in the right spot, and how to hook up when we got a bite. The first mate did a great job of cleaning and filleting our catch. They were especially patient with my wife, who struggled a bit with casting and hooking up with fish. (she ended up catching more than me and the biggest one that had to be released) Captain Kevin's instincts are spot on! My wife and our 10yr old son were in RI for a hockey tournament and once it was over, we headed straight for Boston. On our first morning, we headed for Gloucester harbor to take in the rich history the town had to offer. We really wanted to see the iconic Wicked Tuna boats so we ate in harbor and waited but no return. Instead of coming down the next day to get pictures, I decided that we should try and fish this historic area. With only one day to plan a fishing trip and my flight leaving back to Cali at 6:30 was a task within it self. we were at dinner when Captain Kevin had called us back stating that it would not be an issue and he would have us back to the harbor by 2 PM. We left the harbor at 5 AM as captain Kevin in lighted us with a deep history and knowledge that he had to offer. His first mate was Tristan, who had recently passed the captains test, was very knowledgeable and was getting us set up for the perfect day. The captain knew everything in the harbor, and everyone. Whole fishing that day, the Captain constantly stayed on the radio to get up-to-date information. After we caught our bait, we headed to the first spot and dropped our lines in the water. After waiting about an hr or so the captain decided to make an executive decision and move to the second location because of the reports on the radio. Once we arrived at our second location and dropped our lines in the water, we immediately saw whale activity. We were trying to get some food in our belly while we had a little time and then BOOM, FISH ON!!! With the captains instructions from earlier, we were all able to communicate and successfully land this fish. With the help of Tristan by my side, and the captain on the controls, we were able to land this fish in an hour and a half. With 1/3 of the line left from being chaffed, we were able to land this bad boy in the boat. She came in at 87 inches and 461 pounds being my best record of all times. If it wasn't for both of these captains and my tuna fishing experience, we could've easily lost her. Upon returning to the harbor, and dropping her off at the market, I was able to keep some head fillets, and the tail and I was off to the airport. I have fished all around the world and if you want true tuna fishing at its best, GO ON THIS BOAT!!! They have giving us an experience of a lifetime and memories for the rest of our life's. Captain Kevin and his son Kellan were an absolute pleasure and we would not consider going out fishing or lobstering in the area with anyone else! Highly recommended! For more details read on: We contacted Captain Kevin by cell phone and he was eager, helpful, and a pleasure to work with in order to coordinate our trip. Since my family was not 100% sure of their sea legs we decided to do the half day striped bass charter combined with a little bit of lobstering as well (what they called the "combination trip"). We scheduled an early-morning trip since that was Captain Kevin's recommendation based on tides and weather. We met Captain Kevin at a local restaurant parking lot where he greeted us with a big smile and strong Boston accent. We followed him to a private dock where we met his first mate (his son) Kellan, who was also an absolute pleasure. My wife, teenage boys, and even our well behaved German Shepherd got on board for our trip. The boat was definitely large enough for everyone to be comfortable while we steamed out to the fishing grounds. Captain Kevin and Kellan were a pleasure to talk to throughout our trip and were experts at trying to tailor the trip to our needs. When we got to the fishing grounds we put a line in the water and begin catching mackerel to use as bait for the larger fish. To be honest, this part of the trip was a lot more fun than I had anticipated. We were bringing up fish as fast as we could throw the line in the water and would be catching as many as six at a time! I noticed that unlike many other trips I had been on, Captain Kevin was not afraid to put a lot of bait in the water and we soon had quite a long chum slick behind the boat and after about 15 minutes or so we had our first striper on the line. We were all thrilled to bring in this big fish and would have been more than pleased with the trip even if we had not caught anything else. We fished for a while longer but the winds picked up a little bit and the seas got a little larger and Captain Kevin considerately asked me if my wife was getting a little green and offered to take a little break and pick up a few lobster pots in some calmer waters which we agreed to do. Once we got behind the breakwater, she felt a little better and enjoyed watching my sons and I pull up lobster traps while getting a lesson in the technique of lobstering. We also learned a lot about the conservation efforts around the lobster fishery as well which was a nice aspect of the trip. In fact, one of my two boys raved throughout the day that the lobstering was definitely his favorite part of the trip! At this point we were reaching the end of our scheduled five hour trip, but Captain Kevin wasn't done with us yet. Instead, he took us to a few of his secret locations where each of my boys ended up catching a huge striper of their own--including the biggest one of the day which was by far the biggest fish I have ever seen in person! After the trip was over and we were back at dock, Kellan cleaned our fish, filled a bucket with lobster and recommended that we consider taking our fish over to "lobsta land" restaurant where we started our day and where they will prepare the fish and the lobsters family style for a small fee. We did this and had an excellent meal! 5 stars probably too low, great time. 6 buddies who work in Cambridge drove up on a Friday morning. Texted Kevin a few times that week coordinating logistics and whether to go ground fishing for haddock or fish for strippers. Decided on ground fishing, Kevin met us at the dock just before 7am when we headed out. Nice boat for the 6 of us plus Kevin and his helper. Cut up all the bait, showed us how to fish, took all the fish off our hook and even took pictures so that we didn't have to take out our phones to snap pics - he just took pics and texted all to me and I sent around to everyone. He told some great stories, helped us when out fishing reels got knotted up and let us drive the boat for a bit. We were pretty lucky, the 6 of us caught over 70 fish, mostly haddock and we all got about 10 fish each bagged and put on ice. Best charter on Cape Ann, we had such a great time with Kevin. He gave us the choice to fish for bottom fish (cod, haddock, pollock, etc), striped bass, tuna, or lobster...we chose bottom fish to change it up, because we've already gone striper fishing with Kevin a few times, and we're very successful. This charter was Amazing!! Kevin and his son Kellen made this trip for the 6 of us one of the best days out. We went out form 7am-12pm and from the start we knew we had picked a great company. The weather turned bad the day before our trip and Kevin was right on top of it. He offered to let me cancel the offshore trip or change the offshore trip to an inshore trip. (at a lower cost too) I opted for the inshore trip because no one in my family had ever done fishing that way. Captain Kevin and Mate KC were at the dock on-time and very friendly people. You could tell that they love fishing. The captain took us out to catch the bait (mackerel) needed for the larger fish. That alone was a fantastic experience, very fun. Pulling them in 4,5, and even 6 at a time. Just before the end of our fishing, the captain even brought up a string of lobster cages. I consider my fortunate to have chosen Kevin for our fishing adventure.
