So researching the participating companies took added time. once we chose Northwell we heard there were no HHA available. Also, that we wouldn't have a nurse available until about 1 week after starting. Supposedly, the nurse had been sick and there was no one else available. We overall were disappointed with the experience. If my family were not healthcare workers my dad would have suffered more than he already did. We had to ask for oxygen when that should've been automatically a part of the basic at home equipment for someone that is dying. That is not life-sustaining treatment/therapy. Also, when my dad was no long swallowing meds whole, we practically had to beg for his comfort meds to be changed to liquid. They told us that they could be crushed and liquified. They also kept pushing that his med could have been dissolved in his mouth. How about you be actively dying, in severe pain, not taking in any food or liquids by mouth and then try dissolving pills in a dry mouth smh. The liquid medications should've been offered from the beginning to eliminate all that struggle. We were not supported by Northwell at all. It's like once they knew the family all works in healthcare it's like they left us to take care of ourselves. I'm sorry, but I would not recommend them again!

The nurse was available 24 hours a day and was good at explaining the answers to my questions. It was a very tough, sad and emotional time and the aides were calm and supportive. We had hospice care for 8 weeks and my husband died peacefully with all his family there. It was a gift. Afterwards I went to the Bereavement group and found solace there. I recommend them highly.

I had an extremely traumatic experience with Alvita a few years ago and now that I've just received…read morea letter about patient information being compromised in a hacking, I'm compelled to warn others about trusting loved ones in the care of this organization. When my mom was returning home after a debilitating stroke, we decided to bite the bullet and go with Alvita - which was more expensive than others but long calls with their rep assured me my mom would be in amazing hands and I'd be able to rest easy and enjoy "being a daughter again." The *best* of the three aides they sent was notably cold upon meeting her, and one whom my mom told me would literally snap and curse loudly when lifting her in the hoyer and doing her duties, making her feel like a burden and making her feel on eggshells in her own home. After that, it became a full nightmare. On the morning of a doctor appointment, where the aide was asked to have mom ready to go for her wheelchair transport, the aide literally left in the middle of changing mom - without any reason, warning or notice. I thought she was taking out garbage but she genuinely just ghosted. As a result, mom missed an important appointment with her oncologist while laying there soiled, undressed and helpless. That wasn't even the worst. The final aide, who didn't last long due to her cat phobia (side note, when reaching out to Alvita, their solution: maybe just get rid of the cats), we learned had been putting dirty, soiled/food-filled pots and pans away in mom's cupboards. As a result, the aide who took over discovered maggots everywhere and we had to replace a ton of mom's cookware. (I would share a photo if it wasn't so gross.) The recklessness and negligence of this company and its hiring decisions is unreal. Thankfully my mom had me to advocate and look out for her through all of this, but it's terrifying to think about folks without a support system who are on their own in the hands of people like these and sharing their homes with them. I highly recommend directing your loved ones anywhere else. Or making sure you check in frequently on the welfare of anyone you already happen to have in Alvita's system.

She went over his medication and assessed his body, took pictures of wounds etc. she did not do vitals or anything. (I don't know if that was a requirement) We were not provided with any medicine or supplies. Not even a little starter kit until something came in the mail. Friday My dad was having labored breathing. I called the 212-609-1920 and they advised me to give him some morphine. Ummmm with what you guys don't give us anything. NO INSTRUCTIONS. NOTHING. I had to call 911 - he was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday afternoon and passed away early Saturday morning. My recommendation: DON' T USE THIS SERVICE!!!!! I am going all the way to the top with this complaint. I won't rest until I get proper ethical change with the company. It won't be about money. This is about PRINCIPLE.

She has been forced to sit in her feces for extended periods of time bc no one helped her to go to the bathroom. She has been left w/ her oxygen machine unplugged as she couldn't get to it and no one came to help her. We had to call 911 for her because the facility refused to. The facility is very dirty and the oxygen machines are not cleaned. It is inhuman and devastating to see conditions this bad. More importantly my Aunt has to live in fear. Even something as simple as going to the bathroom could be a traumatic , dangerous situation. Very sad.

To make a long story short I had to loudly insist on an ambulance to Plainview Hospital where he was diagnosed as septic. The nurses that stay in their office had zero concern for his well being and neglected to monitor his condition. They also did not provide pain medication the evening he was admitted as the pharmacy had not delivered it. They assured me they would and I arrived the next day to my father writhing in pain and in tears. The staff that provided care had told me they had asked the head nurse to assist my father and she refused. I had to beg her for an emergency dose. We filed a grievance with Excel and were assured that the staff involved in my father's case had been dealt with but I would be very concerned about having any loved ones with limitations being admitted. We were with my dad that entire week with breaks for us to sleep and shower and we were disregarded throughout.

Saying goodbye to a beloved family member is never easy, but Peaceful Transitions made it as positive an experience as it could be. Our sweet senior dog had been dealing with some health problems, but when we woke up this morning he was unable to walk and was showing signs of neurological issues. When he didn't improve throughout the morning we were about to take him to the emergency vet as his usual vet is closed on Sunday, but then I saw a listing for Peaceful Transitions and we decided to give them a call. They were so incredibly kind on the phone and even though it was a Sunday and they had a full schedule today, they were able to fit us in only a few hours later. They explained the entire process to us over the phone and answered all of our questions, helped us with planning arrangements for after he passed and we were able to pay our invoice easily online before our appointment . Our little guy always got very nervous at the vet, so having someone come out to the house where he could be comfortable and peaceful in his own environment was a blessing. Dr. Matheson was so kind and extremely patient, he examined our little guy, went over our options with us and reviewed the entire process once we were sure we wanted to move forward. They encouraged us to have a special treat for him and a favorite toy, to help distract him while the doctor got him ready. He never could eat bacon normally as it upset his tummy, but he loved it and was so happy to munch on pieces of it while the doctor got prepped for the procedure. We were able to say goodbye to him as he rested peacefully in his own bed surrounded by his favorite toys and blankets and the people who loved him. After the procedure was completed Dr. Matheson stepped out to allow us some time alone to say goodbye, and then made us a nose and paw print and framed them for us. He transferred him into a basket lined with blankets and let us carry him out to the car, to be with him for his final journey. He was so kind and supportive every step of the way, and we are forever grateful to have had this experience. Our hearts are broken over losing our baby, but this is the only way I would ever want to do this again in the future. No rushing to the vet, no fear for our dog in a strange environment, just love and respectful care as we said goodbye. We were also concerned that the price for in-home euthanasia would be too expensive for us, but it actually was in line with what our vet would have charged, and cheaper than the emergency vet. Thank you again to Dr. Matheson and Peaceful Transitions for making what is a stressful and difficult experience as positive as it could be, and for taking such wonderful care of our little guy and us.
