As a caregiver of my late husband for 10 years I am familiar with the ins and outs of this type of work. With that being said: my experience with VNS was absolutely discouraging for our health care system/provider. My father came home for (home hospice) on a Thursday afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The assessment nurse was kind: however I say this respectfully..I couldn't understand what she was saying because she had a heavy accent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She went over his medication and assessed his body, took pictures of wounds etc. she did not do vitals or anything. (I don't know if that was a requirement) We were not provided with any medicine or supplies. Not even a little starter kit until something came in the mail. Friday [[HIGHLIGHT]]My dad was having labored breathing. I called the 212-609-1920 and they advised me to give him some morphine. Ummmm with what you guys don't give us anything. NO INSTRUCTIONS. NOTHING.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to call 911 - he was unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital on Friday afternoon and passed away early Saturday morning. My mom died on 12/21/2024, she was 93 with advanced dementia Alzheimer's. On her last emergency admission to the hospital the doctors and I decided to put her on hospice at home. They gave me a couple of choices but I picked VNS. Everything went very smoothly, even transport arrived early to bring mom home. This was in September and from the moment mom got home VNS were there to make her last days comfortable. Her nurse Venessa was a kind caring professional soul. The doctor assigned to mom was great and we were also assigned a social worker, he was amazing. Mom actually did very well, at one point we discussed maybe not needing hospice if she continued to do so well. Guess mom had other plans, at the beginning of December she refused to eat or drink much, so we knew this was it. The people at VNS were very supportive, I don't know if I could have handled this without them. I've read some of the reviews and I find them ridiculous. Someone wrote something about paperwork left behind, seriously lady? You couldn't have asked the nurse while she was there for an hour or called the 24/7 office number for assistance? Again, I wholeheartedly recommend VNS hospice for your loved ones. My mom's last days were very comfortable and she went peacefully in her sleep. read more

Failed to secure a home health care aid while mt mother was getting PT for 2 months. Only got an Aid for 2 weeks of that time. Social Worker came and offered nothing but false hope for medicaid. Can't get a return call from the social worker or the person she was to put my in contact with. Terrible. The physical and occupational theraspist were very good. Other than that they stink! If you want a frustrating experience try to book a home health care service with VNS . My wife was discharged on Monday and the rehab facility sent the referral the prior week . VNS lost it, so on Wednesday the referral was redone but more paperwork was required. Everything was done by Thursday and I was advised they would contact me to set something up for Friday . Finally with the aid of a social worker from my doctors office we have been promised that a nurse will see and and evaluate my wife tomorrow. The good...well, most of the nurses. The bad? Let's see, the app that you check to see when your visit is scheduled needs to be fixed. Then there's the availability of nurses. There are not enough of them to cover all the cases they have, at least it seems that way lately out here in Queens where I am. A year ago I was raving about VNS and their services but now....they're going downhill fast. It's the company mind you, not the nurses! They are absolutely wonderful! Also I can receive nursing visits from them but I had to get my HHA through another agency because Partners in Care (their HHA division, they merged) is not in my network! My dad has a neurodegenerative disease and really needs PT and OT. After a long hospital and rehab stay, I chose VNS as the home care option because I know a nurse who used to work there, and my father in law had good experiences with them. It took me 8 months including multiple faxes, phone calls, and emails to send the discharge paperwork to the usual PT or to me, which he needs to qualify for further PT or OT. When they called me to try to resolve my request for discharge papers, they first felt the need to insist that the situation was my fault for several reasons, and that was just gratuitous. Every caregiver needs to pound their chest in atonement for having filled out a form wrong and so deserved to be ignored. I just want the form so my dad can have PT and OT. read more

Unreliable, no scheduling system and they just show up whenever they want without any regard for the patient's personal and work schedule. Most of the times I was left hanging and had to call the Clinical Manager, who never picked up or returned my calls. The therapists are frequently no-show with no explanation and no heads up that they cannot make it. I am very disappointed with their services which significantly delays my recovery. read more

I have unfortunately been using VNS for in home hospice for my husband. It has been a complete nightmare during an already terrible time! 95% of the home health aides don't know the difference between the front or back of a diaper or how to change one, are unable to help my husband in and out of bed, fall asleep on the job (in a 4 hour shift!!!), or show up over an hour late. I have actually had 2 aides that can barely walk on their own! I'm not sure how they are supposed to help my husband! On top of all of this, a basic thing of getting supplies is ALWAYS messed up and I constantly have to follow up to make sure things are ordered. Hospice is supposed to help the patient and family out and all it has done for me is stressed me out even more! HORRIBLE!!!! USE THEM AND RISK GETTING WORSE! My partner had surgery at NYU on a Monday, the doctor's office called them to order a nurse for a home visit the following Monday to change the wound vac dressings, they got a confirmation number and then called again to confirm on Friday, all was set and the nurse was expected. NO-ONE SHOWED UP!! We called and were told the confirmation number meant nothing to them, they had his name backward so couldn't find his record in the system, they kept saying they'd call us back but NEVER did. These wound vac dressings need to be changed every 3-4 days and it had already been 5. We HAD to get these dressings changed or else he's at risk for infection and LOSING HIS LEG!!! We scheduled an urgent appt for the doctor's office again the next morning and luckily I was able to go with him to learn how to do it myself (I'm an RN) so we called them back Tuesday afternoon and refused services based on the horrible experience. Well, they just called AGAIN to try to schedule a visit! THREE DAYS LATE! These guys will literally kill your family member, DO NOT ACCEPT A VISITING NURSE FROM THEM!!!! Awful awful practice, very incompetent and quite frankly uncaring staff. After explaining to the woman what our experience was like she just said "ok!" and quickly hung up! Terrible. I work in healthcare and know how bad it can be sometimes but damn. I can't imagine the quality of their nurses working for such a horrible company! Gross! read more

Nurse lied about the evaluation, called another agency APS to be exact and the case was closed without any follow up. Mom was enrolled one week ago in hospice care at home. I can't tell you how happy I am with the service. Responsive, efficient and effective. I am so relieved!
