I just don't even know where to begin with this company. Yes, they provide opportunity for those not with the best credit, but their finance and APR charges are astronomical!! Just think you may get financed for 6 years and end up paying over $15,000 in APR charges. If you are desperate and don't have any other option then go for it, but I really recommend looking else where. The customer service is also atrocious. You can be passed through 5 different people and they WILL all say a different thing. Its Ludacris. I just finished paying off my car in 2018 which my loan was from circa 2012. The amount I paid in APR is disgusting. Pretty much just think of the mob. These people are relentless even if you are a day late. They will call you every hour and hound you 24/7. And if you want to make a payment online you have to pay $12 service fee every time. They will be so quick to repo your car but then no one can tell you how much you owe to get it out and then you have to wait 24 hours plus to find out the amount while your car is racking up fees in a tow yard. All I can say is I am glad to be done with them. I wonder what excuse I will get to follow up on getting my pink slip. I am sure it will be "we need to transfer you to this department" but no one will pick up, or better yet "I am not sure, let me find out" while I am on hold for 20 minutes plus to be told no one can help me. Their phone system is a nightmare. The extension takes you to a voicemail and after six messages over a period of two weeks, no response. The one time I managed to get an actual human being, he was incredibly rude and dismissive of my concerns, and disconnected me when I asked for a supervisor. David was his name. The customer service (or complete lack thereof) of this company is reprehensible. I will be refinancing my auto loan because I'll be damned if I'm going to give thousands of dollars to a company that is so poorly operated. If you can avoid financing with this company, DO. I am relinquished from Consumer Portfolio Services! I stayed with them for a year, had an atrocious 17% APR but improved my credit exponentially in that period. Today I was approved for a refinance with a credit union, who offered me a 3.35% APR. CPS is definitely a predatory lender but if you're diligent and focused about making payments on time & credit rebuilding, just stick it out and then find another lender to finance your vehicle. Terrible company to finance your vehicle through. Financed my 2013 Kia Optima in 2016 for around $13k on a six year term. Come to find out that some months when payments were made there was absolutely nothing going to the principal balance 100% was going to interest. Less than a year from when my car should be paid off and my payout is still around $10k. Refinanced through my credit union best thing I have done. I have had my car loan with Consumer Portfolio Services for over 2 yrs and I was never late, always 100% on tome payment. I lost my Job do to Covid-19 and I could not make my payment. Every financial company was helping out by deferring two month payments to the end of the loan do to this was a hard time for everyone. So I called Consumer Portfolio and they said that they were sorry but they had no policy in place for that. I find this very Un-human and I will not be doing business with this people again. I am working to fix my credit but unfortunately had to purchase a vehicle unexpectedly. I will continue to fix my credit and refinance this loan elsewhere next year. I was hoping that the pre approval prior to shopping at a dealer would save myself some headache - I was wrong. Consumer Portfolio Services was so difficult to work with my dealer will NEVER do business with them again. CPS requested the dealer to provide documentation that NO other lender requires and constantly asked for changes to be made the the documents which were submitted. They required me to add the vehicle to my auto insurance prior to them funding my loan and my ability to pick up the vehicle. I couldn't pick up the vehicle for another 10 days. YES I was forced to pay for insurance on a vehicle I didn't have possession of which I added under good faith they would complete the loan process that day. The loan process for myself was fairly simple, what was required of the dealer was NOT simple and that is plain wrong. Now that I have the loan and the car I see that to make payments on their website I have to pay a convenience fee - seriously what company adds that fee. It is always FREE to make payments on the company website, how else can the consumer and the company guarantee payments are made on time. The only FREE way to pay is to send a check - what a great way for them to claim your payment was late if you have to send checks every single month and rely on the Postal Service. read more

I bought a vehicle back in November of 2016. The loan amount was for $20,930.92 at an APR of 24.2% for 72 months. Making my monthly payments $559.09. $559.09 x 72 is $40,254.48. My principal balance shows I still owe $14,880.59. As of December 2021 Ive owned the vehicle for 61 months. Normally the loan will be paid in full by December 2022. However I have utilized a few extensions that have pushed the maturity date to July of 2023. That leaves 19 payments left on the account. $559.09 x 19 is $10,622.71. Where does the extra $4,257.88 come from?! I have only paid $6,050.33 of the principal balance. Yet have paid $23,583.18 in interest! I was only supposed to pay $19,324 in interest! So I've already paid more in interest than I was originally supposed to and I STILL have 19 payments left! But according to my payoff amount I have 28 payments left. Nothing adds up. All they do is apply my payments to interest and on occasion pay down the principal balance. I'm never doing business with this company again. I just filed a complaint in their resolution department. If nothing comes of it I'll be taking legal action against them. read more

I received a call from someone at the number associated with this company. The caller did not tell me who he was or what company he was with (I had to look up the telephone number to find out). Instead the caller wanted me to verify my information, but could not tell me why he wanted me to verify my information. I then asked to speak with the caller's supervisor. I was put in touch with John Williams who was also of no help. Everyone at this company wanted me to verify the last four digits of my social security number and date of birth without telling me why. Without knowing the reason for the call, why would I provide them with my information. Their customer service was terrible and John kept telling me I simply did not understand why they were calling. And yes, that is exactly right; I still have yet to figure out the purpose for their call. He simply told me he's never had a call like this before after 3 years of working there and that he was spending too much time on the phone with me. This place is the worst! They approved my friend for 3 different loans, depending on which loan officer she talked to. Every loan officer had a different set of rules but she didn't give up bc she needed a new car and she felt this was her only choice even if the interest rate was going to be 27%. Ok so 3 weeks later she finally finds a car that meet all the requirements and they approved, the car was 5hrs from home. Luckily my friend knew someone to go test drive and well it passed his inspections so all communications were crossed between lender and dealership and my friend and it was all good to go so we made the long drive there and back had everything all said and done and she pays her insurance which was 200 bucks and she can't cancel because it was a no refundable down payment. Then she got a call with the oh sorry we can no longer finance you and well the car is going back. read more

Replaced Crank Position Sensor Sept 17th EPC Light on Again Service Appointment Sept 20, 2021, 8 am Car returned to me on Oct 1st, 2021. . Replaced Crank Position Sensor Oct 8th, 2021- EPC Light On Again Car was towed to dealership because it would not start. Had to take PTO from work. Service Appointment Oct 8th, 2021 Car returned to me on Oct 16th, 2021 Said they could not find a problem but They replaced the fuel pump, air intake valve, and fuel filter. On Oct 29th, 2021 the Car would not start and had to be towed to the dealership. Car returned to me on Nov 1st, 2021 they replaced the battery Had to take PTO from work. On December 9th, 2021 car had to be towed again because the car would not start. Car returned to me on Dec 10th, 2021 They replaced the heater core and claimed the reason it wouldn't start is low on gas, (it had a half tank of gas). On December 10th, 2021 I quit driving the car to work because Edwards told me if I was out of town when the car broke down that it would be my responsibility to get the car back to Council Bluffs if it broke down. I was driving to Des Moines Iowa and Lincoln Nebraska for my job as a travel manager it was the whole reason, I bought a car. I had to give up a job I worked my whole career for because I could not make it to my assignments. I would drive my car and park it at my mom's house in Council Bluffs and take Her 2021 Kia to work. Dec 23rd and Dec 25th car would not start for half the day.. Dec 25th Jan 15th, Jan 30, Feb 3rd, Feb 5th Feb 19th, and until February 20, 2022 car would not start The car decides when it will start It is currently sitting at my workplace because it would not start to have a service appointment 02/21/2022. Today I was told that I would need to pay 206.00 for them to diagnose the problem that the car has had since the day I bought it. So I said I want to talk to the manager since I was there in person they could not avoid talking to me, unlike the phone where they would not return my call. So after sitting there for an hour. I was told that it's not their problem and I need to take it back to Baxter. Then the manager says we think it's the fuel pump I said they replaced that he says no they didn't I said yes they did I have the paperwork showing they did. The manager continues telling me how it's not their problem and they don't have to stand behind what they sell. I am now over 18,000 in debt for a car that I can not even drive. I had to leave my travel job because of this car because I could not get to my assignments. I took a job in Omaha and I can't even drive the car there I drive my mom's car to work every day now. I have never in my life met such uncaring shady people as I have to deal with since I made the mistake and buying a car from them. I was treated better and had better luck with buy here pay here. I traded my car that owed with this company for a new car with a bank with a great interest rate, the dealership asked for my payoff and I gave it to them but had payed my car that same day, so the sales man tells me they should be sending you a check with that payment, fast forward 2 weeks I get 2 checks with that amount which I just thought they are sending me due to the dealership paying off the remainder of the loan, so I change the checks at my bank to my account because mind you I think are due to the pay off to find out 3 days later they put a stop payment to and it reports a negative to my account. I call July 26 2019 at 9:03 to ask why they would send a check and stop payment to it and she said accounting had to put a hold on that one but they where going to send another one out and the call was recorded because they tell you before they even ask for your name. so a week passed and nothing so i call and speak TO YOLANDA, which she was nice and polite I mean its not her fault the previous person had no clue what she was doing nor the accounting department that gave her the incorrect information and says no check was coming. so I have a 200 dollars that I have to give the bank for the negative plus the return check fee because of there own mistakes and incorrect information. I am disappointing to say the least and will never recommend them ever to anyone. read more

No stars if i could! First off, i pay my payments, all the time, no problem. There is a 10 day grace period allowed and occasionally i pay into that grace period (thats what it is there for!) I recieved an extremely rude call on December 24th, 4 days after my due date, 6 days before my grace period ends... Christmas eve! While i was having brunch with my family! This "customer" to whom they were referring was not someone who would put me down as a reference. They got my name from his Facebook profile and somehow managed to look up my contact information. I bought a car in March 2015 and used consumer portfolio. I was working hard to rebuild after wrecking my credit while transitioning out of the Marine Corps in 2011. I knew I'd have to pay extra for any credit I received and was content with that fact and thankful for the opportunity. Over the last five years I have paid on time and anytime I have hit a bump I have contacted the lender to keep them up to speed and at times have been offered an extension. I have exceptional payment history according to all credit reporting agencies. The events over the last few weeks have really soured my opinion of cps. I have felt all along that they are a predatory lender and knew they sometimes broke the law in their business practices but I grinned and moved along just trying to get through it. Now COVID 19 has caused me to loose my job. I have called anyone that I thought I wouldn't be able to pay in the short term due to the unprecedented situation and every account from any lender I owe have been so polite and helpful and understanding of the situation that we all find our selves in, except for CPS. They have been threatening and hostile and absolutely unwilling to help me. I have paid for my vehicle five times over with just months left to pay and they don't care. They don't care that I have diligently paid my payments. RUN. Please do not sign a loan from these people. I hope that one of the many Current lawsuits will shut them down. The CEO and management need to be put in jail and when they are let out they should be put on long term minimal unemployment. You'd be better off walking instead of driving a vehicle financed by CPS. read more

Only a couple of months into my loan commitment & I'm regretting not having looked deeper into the source of funding the dealer arranged... Their payment process is unnecessarily limited, complicated, difficult to reach, etc. The staff does not seem to be very professional... or perhaps it's the corporate policies that dictate the general company attitude... which seems to be very lackadaisical & disorganized. Unless you set up auto payments, (that are paid directly from your bank account, but are not electronic transactions, instead, your bank mails your payment by u.s.p.s,, so to be sure it arrives on time, it's important to schedule it several days earlier than it is due!} ...Otherwise, you must mail in the payment coupon that they mail to you each month, (at least that's how I was told the process worked... unfortunately, something seems to have complicated matters & my payment coupon hasn't arrived, although there WAS a letter from them waiting for me at my new address last week, acknowledging that they got my updated mailing info & to call if I have any questions. ok, so I called, because it's important to me to get my payment in on time. Without the coupon to identify what loan my pymnt is attached to, or the correct address where my payment should be sent, I worried that I'd wind up having to make my pymnt over the phone-- with the attendant $12 fee. My interest rate is high enough to make me choke! It's ridiculous! I should have asked for details before agreeing to this loan, instead of letting myself get burdened with so expensive a rate & so limited staff availability. Who knew? Since it's after midnight on the 21st, my payment is officially late. I had called last Friday afternoon before closing time, which is 5 p.m. but no human picked up my call. ( I'd explained on their recording my desire to pay in timely manner, but complicated by lack of the coupon & also asked for correct address to send my payment to, as well as the phone number to pay over the phone if need be. d the absence of a payment coupon. No one called me back, or left any message. I know I gave the new address to the underwriter, but except for the acknowledgement they'd received a written update There was no other mail from them.. no info on how to reach them properly to make a payment. It's an insult to make it so difficult for customers to get info or assistance on such a time sensitive matter! I am aNGTRY THAT THEY ARE SO UNRESPONSIVE & HARD TO GET AHOLD OF! Not only did they harass me for my payments of the day they were due, we paid the vehicle off through a mortgage company and they froze the registration on my vehicle. Then they put the mortgage company as the lienholder and now I'm not even able to register or get registration for my vehicle it is a mess of paperwork that consumer portfolio services has created. PLEASE!! If you are considering financing a vehicle through Consumer Portfolio Services, I would strongly suggest you make a deal with a Mafia Boss or loan shark. CPS is unscrupulous and once they have you in their jaws there is very little you can do. I purchased a vehicle for my step-daughter in 2012. When she was unable to make payments I took over the loan and made all payments on time. During my step-daughter tenure of owning the vehicle several extensions were made on the loan without my permission (I am the primary borrower). CPS would not provide accurate information about the balance of the loan, who authorized extensions, and after having the vehicle almost paid off CPS alleged that I wanted to self-surrender the vehicle. They took the vehicle without consent and after I paid the balance of the loan the vehicle was mysteriously transported to another region. I am still waiting for the vehicle (seven days). CPS has refused to compensate for the loss. If you are considering financing with CPS PLEASE STOP!!! Looking back I would rather attempt catching a wild lion and ride his back than allow CPS to suck the blood and life from my family and myself. PLEASE!! Avoid CPS at all cost!!! read more

Dealer Review- If I could leave Zero Stars I would. We did a Direct Mail piece with them recently . Everything was set to drop on a certain date near a holiday weekend. No traffic, didn't think much ..maybe it got delayed . Called them up the next day . The printer was supposedly broken "first time in 14 years" At first they shot straight then as the days passed I could tell I wasn't getting the real answers. Comes down to canceling or not.. finally get a hold of the VP there and he offers an additional 1,000 pieces on top of the 5,000 . (the only positive in this whole mess) long story short, the mailer finally drops 8 days later .... CRM tracking, phone records, text records.... AN ENTIRE 7 LEADS!!!!! That's it .... 6000 pieces of Direct mail for 7 leads. (not one person in the door) STAY FAR AWAY!!! After emailing the entire team about the non existent performance NOT ONE person reached out. I fell behind on my car payments and because of the negative reviews I believed that CPS wouldn't work with me but that wasn't the case. They rep that I dealt with was great! She helped setup a plan that helped me become current on my car payments and waived late fees. Life happens and there isn't anyone that I know who wants to fall behind with any of their bills.
