Made sure he never came back. Workmanship horrible, owners tells you can use more of "brown" fieldstone instead workers used more gray. Workers did not listen to customer. Never cleaned up, so I could my kitchen. Bricks crooked, mantel crooked on one of the sides, when pointing to owner "he said floor wasnt even"ordered incorrect insert logs, the grout or should a say cement is crumbling at the bases/hearth. The other side of FP with a new mantel was taken down 2'xs because of excessive gaps. One worker had to be on one side working and couldnt "touch" the other side of FP of a worker who never showed up.Owner is a "smooth" talker- increased pricing didnt change invoice. Then when it was time to light up the FP, it didn't work! One guy couldnt figure out the problem, then owner came out several times and finally took part of FP apart, found that they didnt build it correctly, workerss forgot to install a baffle inside the exhaust. They never pulled permits with city, remove a gas shut off valve, when house was built, said we didnt need it anymore. What! It took over 3 months to complet the project, neighbors even ask why took so long!

On the day they installed my fireplace it was terrible snowy weather and they laid out tarps through the house where they were working, trenched the lines outside and were very clean and organized. The team was talkative and nice too, explaining what they were doing on the install. Their crew even shoveled my entire driveway to bring everything in and out with the old but the cherry on top was that they shoveled my sidewalk. They took their time, did a fantastic job and I am loving my new fireplace insert! Highly recommend Shores Fireplace and BBQ!

I live down in Ferndale, and in July 2020, our basement got hit with the second round of…read morecatastrophic flooding in the last six years. Cool. After professional cleanup, the headache of dealing with an insurance adjuster, and the due diligence of meeting with multiple contractors to get bids on putting the basement back together, we went with Rentz Remodeling and Contracting. And wow. The difference between someone like Matt Rentz and other contractors we've dealt with has been night and day. A selfish part of me wants to keep this knowledge to myself, in case we need him again, but he's too good NOT to share. First of all, his bid was extremely fair. Since we were dealing with repairs and not an elective home remodel, we didn't have a ton of money set aside. Just what was left of insurance after a not-great cleanup crew charged us through the nose. Matt detailed out everything he would do to fix the basement, with line items for both labor and cost of materials. There was no guessing or having to ask for more detail; he came prepared with paperwork and was always extremely open about what everything cost. Secondly, he and his crew were incredibly polite and professional. In a pandemic, having new people in your house is always a little anxiety-provoking. The first thing they did when they arrived is put up a plastic zip door between the basement stairs and the rest of the house. And they never came through it into the main house. We worked out a system where he would text if he needed to ask any questions, which meant I could go anywhere in the house without worrying that I couldn't hear them if they needed anything. But for the most part, they came and went according to the needs of the work, and I didn't have to do much of anything at all. Thirdly, Matt and his crew are not just great contractors, but good guys. We had a problem with the hose discharge line for our sump pump freezing over during a cold snap, so my husband had temporarily removed it. Matt noticed and pointed out that he'd seen excess water leak through basement walls before, and texted with me about potential solutions we could try ourselves to keep it functional through the winter. Not an upsell--but just because he had knowledge he thought we could use. I'd recommend Rentz Remodeling and Contracting to anyone. (I've already given his name to a few friends.) And the next time we need anything done around the house, these guys are at the top of my list. A++, 10/10.
