I wanted to give this salon a chance; however, they initially told us we had to wait 3 weeks for an appt. I was able to let that slide. Not only that, they call/text you throughout the week multiple times with questions. It's kind of high maintenance and annoying. Today was the scheduled appointment. We get a phone call telling us the hairdresser is going to be late. My mom was rightfully agitated, and the woman on the phone gave her an attitude. "We're ONLY 15 minutes behind" well my thing is, you had us wait 3 weeks as if you're the salon equivalent to the Beatles. I've been reading that they haven't been doing well with new customers. A note of appreciation to the Contempo Cuts crew. Today especially, as upon walking in, my mom who speaks very low made a joke to a very busy Michael who couldn't hear her. He came over to be attentive and share a giggle with her. While I was in my chair being taken care of by the incredibly talented Melissa and unable to physically assist my fragile mom who uses a cane, it warmed my heart to see not only her stylist but a few other stylists assisting her with walking and providing her with a beverage. She was genuinely treated as if she were their own family. Also, 2 customers leaped from their seats the second we walked in the door, to offer her (and even me) a seat. As a client of 20 years, I am grateful for a local salon with that neighborhood feel and professional talent that is unmatched in pretentious and overpriced salons. Thank you Contempo. read more

Really disappointed by how they treat new customers. It's a shame too because I live right around the corner and could have gotten higher priced services done in the future and talked them up to friends but now I will do the opposite. And let me just say. It has nothing to do with the money. It's the principle. A friend told me to go for a spray tan and on Thursdays and Fridays they are only $20. It was close to my house so I thought I'd give it a try. My friend went in 15 mins before me and they charged her that amount. Meanwhile they charged me $40. Later, after speaking to my friend, she told me to call to see what happened, and why I was charged more. Note:: I was also sure to give more than 20 percent tip because that's the type of customer I am. Note 2:: The girl at the front desk didn't even ask if I wanted change. When I called, the Salon's initial response was that the special doesn't start until 4 pm. Meanwhile, even my friend didn't even know this policy. The salon said they would see what they could do and would call me back in 10 mins. Two hours later. Still no call. So I call back. They gave me the run around, and basically now say the reason my friend was charged less even before 4 pm is because she's been to their place before. This is the opposite of what you should do to keep a new customer. Will head to Tan City next where they give new customers a FREE first tan! read more

Anne at Contempo Cuts is the best. I have thick, unruly hair and have been to numerous "high end" salons in South Jersey and the Philly suburbs. I've spent hundreds of dollars, and have struggled to find a stylist I'm impressed with, until Anne. I couldn't be happier. The prices here are more than reasonable and the talent is just as if not more impressive than the ritzy places where you get the dog and pony show but average results. Very poor management! The manager did not show any empathy after having a terrible customer service. I made an appointment because I was told by the receptionist the day before that they dont take no one without appointment. When I got there for the appointment they just had taken a walk in, which was very dishonest of their part. I spoke with the manager and he did not care. The first thing that came out of his mouth was if I was a client. Does that even matter? Everyone should be treated equally. So if you are thinking about going to this place be sure if anything happens they will not care, they only care about taking the money off of you. read more

I love love this salon. I am not super picky on my haircuts and have been to several spots in the Northeast - probably every salon you could name but I have never left Contempo unsatisfied. I have had Melissa as a stylist once and I totally agree she is a hair wizard. My go-to, however, is a young stylist named Brynn. She is beyond patient and knowledgable when it comes to coloring my hair (brown to blonde). She uses a treatment that develops overtime so I never leave with my hair feeling over-processed and gritty. She really listens to customers and uses her knowledge to integrate my vision with her products and process. I recommend going on a week day/night as the weekends if you want to avoid the crowd. The daughter of the owner who works here completely melted my hair off by double processing me. Was using a lot of bleach to begin with. After it happened she made it seem like my fault, and then when I asked if she could possibly help me pay for extensions she refused because she said they would have to be ordered from another place. She threw a heat protectant at me and sent me on my way. Hasn't contacted me since, my hair hasn't grown since this happened in February and I literally don't know what to do. read more

I just had my hair done today by Melissa. She has "the talent" and "gift of knowing" when it comes to cut and color. I have only come across this once before and when I find someone who is able to intuitively work their craft like she does noticing me like she did, I am so happy! And will return ! She nailed it ! I have been going here for many years and I adore my stylist, but it ends there. I had a 9 am appt and I walked in and there was hair all over the floor. How can that be when the shop just opened? The girls that wash hair spend more time looking at their phones than doing their jobs. My stylist is the one that usually drapes me. I get that they have a very loyal following of customers and the shop is never empty, however they should keep the shop clean and hire people that want to work. read more

Took my daughter for her first haircut here by Megan. She did an amazing job. My daughter waited until she was 6 years old to cut her hair so that we could donate it and Megan knew exactly what to do. Ps - less expensive and better service then the hair cuttery. read more

My daughter had her hair and makeup done for an event. We waited a half hour, not bad considering it's prom season. The girls did a beautiful job with my daughters hair and make up but when it was time to pay the older person at the front desk who just walked in the door to work decided it was a good time for a personal call that irritated her so much that she couldn't look up at us to greet us at all and when she decided to take my slip, she snatched it out of my hands and laughed to herself and the guy that works there and said," that's why people call me a bitch". Well, you are right about that and I'm glad that cheered you up but I don't need to go to a place of business and pay someone to be a bitch to me and my daughter. Good thing front desk people do not get tips because my only tip for her would be to to go home, you make everyone in your salon look bad. You are very unprofessional. I gave 3 stars because the front desk person was a disgeace to the business but the girls that did the work are worth more than that it's sad that self titled bitch ruins it for everyone. read more

My appointment was 11:30, did not get into the stylist chair until 12:20. I had arrived at 11:00 so I sat there over 1 hour. The stylist apologized said she was over booked. It would have been nice if they had called earlier in the day to try to reschedule for a later time. The cut is OK nothing to brag about read more

Love this place! I've been to many of the stylists there and have never been disappointed. Only reason it gets a 4 star is because the last time I was there 2 of the other stylist were sitting around cackling because they had a break between clients. There should be a break room for stylist to go and converse when they aren't busy. It was kind of aggravating that while I was getting my hair cut they were right next to me blabbing about TV shows and their boyfriends. This has happened on more than one occasion. Absolutely horrible! I asked my hairdresser, Allison, for highlights and lowlights of light blonde because I wanted to go lighter. I was in the salon for over three hours and they ended up washing my hair over 4 times, which was unnecessary. After the three hours of waiting impatiently at the salons, Allison showed me my hair. My whole head was a gold/ brassy color. You could not see the difference between the high lights and the lowlights. I told Allison that I did not like my hair and she promised me it would lighten up in a few days. I figured I would listen to her and give my hair a chance to lighten up. Plus at this time I was the only one in the salon! Two days after I got my hair done, my hair kept looking gold/ brassy and it looked horrible. I called the salon and asked for my money back because I did not want to get my hair fixed by them and I would go somewhere else. The owner stated she could not give me my money back, but Allison would be able to fix it to exactly how I wanted it. I made an appointment and a few days later went back to the salon. I told Allison I wanted to be light blonde, nor brassy gold. I told Allison this was not want I wanted and I hated it. She told me she knew what I wanted and proceeded to add ten foils to my hair. Again, after she finished you could not tell the difference between high lights and low lights. The worst part was she fixed my hair and made it look identical to my natural hair color, which defeats the purpose of the highlights and low lights. Anyways, after wasting $130 on highlights that were done wrong, I would never go back here. They do not understand what you want and they will do it wrong but not give you your money back so you have no choice but to have them fix it. I'm so disappointed and angry that I wasted so much time and money into fixing my hair and I still don't like the final result. Please think twice about going here. read more
