Contempo is a great salon for everyone! Literally myself, my mother, my brother and my sister all go here and we all see the same stylist. I like that its not overly chic and trendy with club music playing to where I feel I need to be dressed up in a black mini skirt to even walk in, it has a nice wholesome vibe and all of the staff is super friendly. The women I see, always uses the absolutely best products and has literally helped me to transform my hair to being so soft and shiny from years of over coloring and abuse. Very trustworthy and skilled stylist here, I once asked for a Brazilian blow out, I was glad my stylist informed me that this can be damaging to your hair and has harsh chemicals, i had another salon it would make my hair healthy and on top of that it cost a fortune.... once i did more research i found out it has formaldehyde which is super bad for you to breath in and horrible for your hair. However make sure you have an appointment they tend to be busy busy busy since most of the stylist have seen the same clients for years. read more

For my wedding, I had eyelash extensions from Christina at Contempo. She was great - very nice, sweet and sincere. I've never had eyelash extensions before; she explained how to best take care of them and have them last as best as possible. I had them placed 4 days before my wedding, and they looked great. (I did have additional strip lashes for the day of the wedding.) It's now 1.5 weeks since and the eyelashes still look decent. They are also very reasonably priced compared to the one other place I checked in Ann Arbor. read more

I took my toddler son here for a haircut over the weekend. I was out running errands and Contempo was nearby, so I decided to give it a try. The good: Rhonda is awesome! My son's haircut was what I asked for and turned out great. I would give her 5 stars. The bad: I called ahead to ask their prices for little boy haircuts. The person who answered the phone had no idea. I would think pricing is a pretty basic question people call to ask about. I understand that each stylist there has their own prices, but I would've expected them to know the usual range. She asked for my son's age, which I've never been asked at any barber/salon, then she told me it would probably be $10 or $15. It ended up being $25 for his haircut! Yes it was a great hair cut, but I would not have gone if they had given me the actual price when I called beforehand. read more

I am giving the stars to Erika, as I have known her for years and she has always done a wonderful job on my hair. The problem I have with this salon is their lack of communication about bridal services. I called late February to schedule my hair trial and hair services for myself and my wedding party on my wedding day. Amber scheduled the trial for April and said it would be no problem to see us all in June for my wedding. I ended up calling a few weeks later to confirm the time of the trial and day of services, as I realized I never actually got a time for the wedding day. Turns out, they did not schedule me or my party for my wedding day. Why would I schedule a trial and not the day of services? I tried to contact Amber three times (with a week in between each call) and had to leave messages for her, and was assured I would be called back the next day, but I never got any calls back. After the third attempt, I decided the stress wasn't worth it and I was running out of time to make sure I had the services booked. I ended up finding a salon closer to my venue and cancelled with Contempo, which is a shame because I normally love being seen there! read more

Contempo is the best. I have been having my hair colored and cut by Roby for many years. This association has resulted in an alliance every woman wishes she had with her hairdresser. When my gray got past the point of pulling a few out he gave me color so natural no one knew. I am 80% Gray now and he continues to create a miracle every time he cuts, colors, or highlights my hair. I have never once seen a root section he missed. He is a perfectionist in everything he does. I pray he never retires because another hairdresser would have some really big shoes to fill. I had an early appointment with Rasa because my daughter was at the Salon and we wanted to get in an out around the same time to spend the day together. After I had been waiting 30 min...a person came in and said she had am appointment with Rasa, they took her right back. I went up to the desk and she informed me someone had called Rasa few minutes ago and needed to get in right away...WHAT?? she said it wouldnt be long. My daughter came out and waited 30 minutes with me and left insisting I stay because I had waited 3 weeks for a Saturday appointment. I asked the desk if anyone was avail to cut and highlight my hair. She said it would only be a few more minutes. After 45 more minutes I left. The desk called on my way home and said RASA would see me if I came back. I had a trip coming up and had no choice. No discount nothing just the EXCUSE the client was a regular. Well I had been there a few times to see Rasa as well. I'll never go back, shes not very good anyway and very expensive. booked a haircut appointment with elizabeth for july 6th friday 6pm online. i even showed the front desk guy the screenshot confirmation. showed up and the guy said she wasn't in.. i was flying into michigan for just a week to move into my new apt and squeezed a haircut in my tight busy schedule because elizabeth is so good at what she does!! since meeting her at her previous location, i have not gotten a hair cut with anyone else and even followed her to this location. sadly, i had to leave michigan before she came in again(which was 3-4 days later) and now im stuck with all this hair for the summer. four stars because elizabeth is really talented but giving other customers a warning: do not do scheduling online. this was a huge inconvenience for me but i did not even get an apology for this mistake. he attempted to reschedule but when i told him ill be out of town, he just looked at me, i shrugged, said "okay" and walked out. read more

This review is for Michelle Demeau (Naturally Flawless by Michelle). I got a living social for a Brazilian and added on an upper lip abd eyebrow wax. I have super sensitive skin, and often have an allergic reaction to soft waxes. Michelle uses a soy based wax and some very nice calming cream, and my skin feels better then it ever does after a wax! This is related to my experience with Melissa Gasco a little while ago. She is one of the worst hair stylists I have been to - in terms of her professionalism, attitude and ofcourse her skills as a stylist. You are lucky if your need and her understanding of your need happen to overlap otherwise you are in for a shock in terms of the end product of the haircut and her reaction to to your criticism. Should you provide feedback, do not expect any change. I happened to be a fool and returned a couple of times more, expecting a change but only got more of an attitude from her, flushed more $$$ money down the tube, got a laughable haircut (people at work actually came up to me and asked if something was going on with me) About her attitude - she complains about every body - she'll complained about the customer 2 feet away from you; made me wonder if I was being complained about 15 minutes later coz I had some feedback about the wait time she probably didn't like that . She also complained about her sweet assistant. Who complains about an assistant to a customer??? She refused to fix her mess of a haircut - that was the height of unprofessionalism for me. Melissa a hire stylist in the salon she is not faithful at all ready for problems dealing with new customer in a rude way not recommend her at all. I visit the salon and the receptionist scheduled me with Melissa she worked with me for 2 hours to color my hair it is the regular time for any coloring, however she request another day to do the highlight in the day of the coloring I pay the full amount which is 165$. 65$ = color & 100 = highlight. When I come the next day she being rude and don't want to complete the work and she don't want to return my money back. After a long discussion with the owner I find that Melissa was lying to the owner by telling her she worked with me 6 hours & I take the refund 100$ for the highlight which I didn't do! Mellisa forget the best way to get money is to be faithful and built the trust. DON'T RECOMMEND MELISSA TRY TO FIND ANOTHER SALON. read more

FINALLY!! After trying out many many different places including some of the supposed "Top color specialists" in the area I tried out this place from a friends recommendation. I was a bit unsure as it's in a strip mall and I hadn't really heard of it till now...but I tried it anyways and SO GLAD I did. I have really long double processed blonde hair and have had the worst time finding a good colorist. I've even gone to some highly rated places in Chicago without much luck. I've paid several hundred dollars and walked out with orangey/brassy/unevenly colored hair. Then I found Melissa! She's GREAT!! Her color is flawless. Prices are great. She's a perfectionist and would never let me walk out without my color looking great. When I first came in she had to do a color correction on me because my last stylist totally screwed up my hair. I've been going to Melissa for about 3 years now and my search has finally ended :) read more

HAIR DISASTER!! I had my hair done here by Gabby and I showed the her pictures pervious to the appointment and the day of what I wanted done. After my hair was washed and dried it looked completely yellow. She put some lowlights in it to try and break it up a little so it didn't look like a solid color. She turned all the lights off in the room and turned on a bright fluorescent light to make all the colors look better. I left not wanting to complain because I knew her and didn't want to upset her. I got home and kept looking in the mirror and really wasn't happy with it so called the salon and spoke to the receptionist who told me I had to contact her. Gabby had sent me a message asking what was wrong with my hair, I was polite and explained to her why I wasn't satisfied, she wasn't apologetic at all and even said "I did what you asked"... I'm sorry but for the amount of money I spent it's nothing remotely close to what I wanted, it looks like someone put cheap box dye on my hair and left out the roots. She offered to touch it up after me telling her that I was having it done by someone else as I didn't want it getting messed up a second time. I asked if I could have my money back. She refused to refund me and said the policy is no refunds yet on the website it states nothing about client refund for dissatisfaction so I told her that and she came back with "well with the amount of time and product used a refund is not an option." Today I went to the salon to try and reason with the manager and the woman at the desk they told me my hair wasn't yellow and apparently according to them I asked for it to be taken so close to the roots so the color would last longer, which I never said so they literally lied to me trying to cover up that a mistake was made. They were extremely rude and weren't even the slightest bit apologetic. Extremely disappointed with the customer service at this salon. read more

My mother and I have both been seeing Melissa for years! Melissa is extremely talented, detail-oriented, knowledgeable, and professional. My mother has short, colored hair and I have medium/long wavy hair with bangs. Melissa taught me how to take care of my hair and nurse it back to health after years of cheap shampoo, weather damage, and neglect. Horrible experience. Called in to get clip in extentions put in. They set me up with Vanessa, who had no idea how to work with clip in extentions. She decided to do a bun in my hair after I gave her the option when she admitted she had no idea what she was doing with the extentions. They after trying to do a bun for 20 minutes, she admitted she did not know how to do that either. Front desk was rude and refused to take a complaint.
