The Smile Center of Orlando is "my place". Originally, the convenience of the location was the biggest plus. I had received some great word-of-mouth review from an old co-worker and thought I'd (as well as my significant other) give it a shot. We knew this was a place we wanted to continue to visit. The equipment is relevant to 2016, the dental hygenists and the doctors are friendly and helpful and the front staff is graciously helpful when it comes to questions about insurance, pricing, and payment options. In my humble opinion, there's no reason to be smacked with a bill you didn't expect because it wasn't discussed prior to services. Maybe I've had a lot of experience going to the dentist because of my past, but at the Smile Center, if I've ever had any questions about coverage of services, the staff is very helpful about guiding me through what my benefits cover, and what it doesn't. With all of that said, I have moved to the complete opposite side of town, and I continue to visit this dentist because I trust this place. This practice seems designed to milk every last dime out of its "patients" (or, more accurately,…read morethe victims of its fear-driven sales tactics). I went in a few weeks ago as a new patient after moving to the area. I scheduled what I thought was a routine cleaning. Instead, I spent OVER TWO HOURS being subjected to what felt like one long sales pitch, only to eventually be asked whether I wanted to have my teeth cleaned that day. Yes- the cleaning I had scheduled the appointment for in the first place. I was told that I had FOUR cavities, despite never having more than one cavity identified at any dental appointment in my life. I was repeatedly pushed toward add-on services, including an oral cancer screening, yet during this supposed screening, the dentist did not even examine under my tongue or palpate the surrounding lymph nodes. I also was not clearly informed that the X-rays they took would not be covered by my insurance until after they had already been performed. Somehow, my supposedly routine, insurance-covered cleaning appointment still left me with a bill of more than $200. But the treatment plan was what really set off alarm bells. The dentist specifically described my alleged cavities as very small, surface-level cavities that she prefers to fill before they become larger. Yet my itemized treatment estimate included pulp caps for all of them, which are medically indicated for protecting the pulp in substantially deeper decay and, conveniently, not covered by my insurance. Even more concerning, one of my supposed cavities was identified between my teeth using AI. When I asked to see it, the dentist was unable to show me the cavity on the X-ray or provide a photograph demonstrating it. At that point, I sought a second opinion. The second dentist told me I have ONE cavity that needs to be filled. NOT FOUR. One. I completely understand that dentists can have different treatment philosophies and that there can be legitimate disagreement about when early decay should be treated versus monitored. What I experienced here went far beyond a difference in philosophy. Between the aggressive treatment recommendations, questionable add-ons, lack of transparency about costs, and the enormous discrepancy between their treatment plan and an independent second opinion, I left feeling that generating revenue was a much higher priority than earning my trust as a patient. Dentistry depends on patients being able to trust that when a provider tells them they need irreversible treatment, they actually need it. Experiences like this are exactly why people become suspicious of the dental industry in the first place. If you are told you suddenly need extensive dental work here, get a second opinion before allowing anyone to touch your teeth. I am extremely glad I did.

We didn't even discuss my Xray results, or other options for my clenching jaw. She just jumped to my 3 slightly crooked teeth. THREE! Really? They didn't even make my next 6-month appointment after 3 HOURS of appointment time with them. Everything immediately focused on my new braces. They even pushed me to apply for credit. When they asked me for my checking account information, I put the brakes on. All they did, was make me feel like I was being taken advantage of. Cavities? I don't know if I have any. I will most likely get an appointment with someone else in 6 months. I really hate the way my appointment shifted. Seven days later, I am still feeling that vibe. I don't like it at all. Ruban kept calling me, even after I left him a message telling him that I will be seeking a less invasive treatment. None of which they discussed with me. Invisalign Braces were my only choice from this dentist. I told everyone in this office that I spoke with that my hearing is an issue, and please not to call me on the phone. My phone is ringing. I think this office has a hearing problem. Obviously no one marked my record as I asked them to. I am thoroughly disgusted, and not happy at all about this wasted appointment.

I have been going to Dr. Marte's office for about two years now and I have to say it's the BEST experience I've had at the dentist. The two hygienist I've had have been the sweetest to me! First one I had really made me feel so comfortable being there and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Sadly she ended up leaving and was moved to another hygienist and been with her for over a year now. And just like the first one she always making sure I'm okay and talks me through it. Dr. Marte has been super friendly and always has great tips. In a few months I'll be moving but I will still make the drive just to come to this location. 10/10 experience for me.

I explained that upfront and felt that they went above and beyond to make my experience with them a good one. So far, Ive had two crowns and an implant done over the last year, and I am incredibly satisfied.
