Great closeout/clearance items everything from shampoo to houseware items food, candy, snacks, miscellaneous, houseware items, closeout items, sports team products thermos cups you name it. You always find something great in the store for a very reasonable price. Dog snacks and toys. Found some great planter containers for .25 cents and a summer flavor Gatorade that was great for half of what other stores charge. I found these cheese puffs one time they were so good. I went back and got more a few days later. They also had these little small snack size bags of a pretzel snack that had a barbecue mustard flavor to it and those were so good. They're only $.25 a bag. I went back and got more of those as well but they don't last long once the items are cleared out they're gone. It's a clearance store. read more

I haven't been here in a couple years, mainly because am no longer in the area, but from well before the turn of the century we patronized Continental so I know quite well how the store operates. We try to come once or twice a year now but when we lived in the area (a mile away), we'd go at least twice a week. Some things have changed over time but the essence of the store is still there - gobs of food and drink at often great prices, non-food items (all different kinds) at reasonable to excellent prices. We could buy cases of pop for literally a fraction of what you might pay elsewhere. You just kind of have to go in there and experience it for yourself. I have known a few of the workers, particularly Mark, for many years. He's long been a dedicated employee (if he's still there). You will find lots of food items past the expiration date but with very few exceptions I have found the quality inside to be just as though the expiration date was a long way off. Chips are one of those items. The savings are stark here compared to those in regular grocery stores if you don't mind taking a chance of consuming the item after the listed date. I never batted an eyelash. I don't know if they still have tax free Tuesdays or 77 cent Fridays but unless they have dramatically changed, this is truly a worthwhile store to go to for all bargains. The neighborhood has regretfully declined a bit in recent years and its crime elements are on the rise so if you can, try to patronize Continental during daylight hours (perhaps this is why it's a bit more challenging to find a parking spot in their lot during daytime). Hope to go back sometime in the near future. If you live out that way or are within a half hour drive, it's well worth the trip - last I checked. read more

Used to love this place when I first discovered it about 4 years ago. Unfortunately they have raised prices for many things that are not worth it anymore. They had a nice variety of discount sodas along with taco shells and fixings 75% less than the local stores. The store was clean, the checkout process fast, and the cashier was very nice. Trust me when I say that this is a hidden gem in my neighborhood. The fact that in this day and age you can find a store that you don't need a club membership for is special, and on some days if you are a senior (I am almost there) you can get extra discounts. Granted yes, some of the items may be almost or already expired, but truth is the items are still good. You can also purchase items for less than a store such as beauty aids, shampoos, soaps, and even name brand items for a fraction of the cost. When you do come in make sure you bring bags to save even more, but if not they have awesome cloth bags or of good quality that you can purchase also. I highly recommend you coming in to see the items. I often pass by weekly and the items change so fast. As a mater of fact if you come in you will see different items as they rotate all the time. And I love when Target or other stores sell or give their merchandise to Continental to sell. I mean you can also buy Starbucks ice coffee in a carton with spout for around $1.99 and it last at least 20 cups! I live for the vibe here and again, you will not be dissapointed in the least. Do you like watching planes coming down? Do you like hunting bargains? Do you have lots of people to feed? If your answers are "YES" on all three (3) questions, you need come and check this place OUT! This place is located near the Midway Airport, on S. Cicero. The planes are coming down fast and furious (not exactly that fast...it's approximately 100 mi./hr....so that they can land at 75 mi./hr. once they reach the ground). Well, let's forget about the physics for now. My point is that if you don't mind hearing noise from airplanes constantly, you may shop there. Fair warning, people: most items are about to expire in the next thirty (30) days or less, so mind your business and be very familiar with your immune system. Yes, they are cheap, but will you die from consuming those things? I'm not going to answer this question for you...obviously. I saw some cookies have turned colors even though they were not yet expired. I personally thought the banquet frozen entrees were over-priced. For $1.99 on a chicken-finger dinner, I know Jewel-Osco will have better prices and more varieties. One of the older-lady patrons randomly shout out "check prices before making purchases" after I made a comment on the price of the frozen entree. I guess she concurred. They have lots of canned veggies, unknown-brand salad dressings, and unknown-brand spices. Well, they aren't exactly "unknown;" they were made in Bedford Park, IL. Hey, that's literally across the road on S. Cicero. For some reason, their packaging is very hokie. Based on what I saw, I wouldn't trust on those spices or other Bedford Park made merchandize. However, I do trust the Miss Swiss marshmallow hot chocolate. I purchased two (2) pack of the six (6) pouches; each pack was $0.99. I got some skittles as well: two (2) regular packs for $1.00, about the same price as Walgreens' when they have those on sale. This is a great place to find bargains, if you're willing to take chances. They do have household cookware, personal hygiene items, and accessories. You can tell that they've been circulating around different venues for awhile. Evidence? The aquafresh toothpastes were in the late 90's packaging. This is a store that obtains overstocked items from various department stores. A lot of their stuff actually comes from target and it's a fraction of the price that you would pay if it was in the regular store you never know what they're going to have, it changes week to week. Various beverages, snacks, OTC medicine, spices, Some clothes, housewares, small automotive section, toys, etc. some food is out of date, and that's usually the snacks that is like 10 bags for $1.00. I've passed by this place and finally stopped in. The name says it all. You never know what you may find. With the economy the way it is, bankruptcies are on the rise and the stuff makes it here. The selection includes toys, clothing, food, auto, office supplies, kitchen gadgets, tools. Some of the food is past its expiration date (but is prominently labeled as such). My find on my visit was a 4 foot tall sheet metal frog lawn ornament for $5.00. I did pick up 2 food items: Starbucks coffee ($1.99) and LU raspberry and chocolate cookies (.50). Both had recent expiration dates. I am finicky about the freshness of my coffee but one month past its expiration date versus 80% off of the normal price is a tradeoff I'll accept. On a subsequent trip I picked up some Peet's coffee, even better than Starbucks. I've stopped by here from time to time and my only tip is if you see something that's a good deal, pick up extra because it will be gone next week. I've seen pallets of gourmet or organic items make it here. I've bought (not outdated!) DeCecco products (pasta, tomatoes, olive oil), Cascadian Farms granola bars, organic cashews and other goodies for a half or third of the regular price. Update Dec 2009: Shopping at this store allowed me to be extra generous with donations to food pantries and toys-for-tots campaigns during the holiday season. read more

Go in here at least once in your life and when you do, have an open mind would ya? If you want a fair measure of this place then you would have to come here once a month for three months because every time will be a different experience. You'll find discontinued items, closeouts, packaged goods close to expiring, furniture, rugs, clothes, candles, cleaning supplies and this gem in the attached pictures. What a great gag gift! A 1994 Sears Catalog for a $1!!! Damn right I bought it! There can be great deals found here again if you have an open mind and you quickly go through their aisles. There is no reason to spend more than 10 minutes here. Bring your recycle able bag just Incase you find some great pick ups! Most things are moderately priced and their parking lot is big enough to handle the weekends crowds. Also stay way from their bathrooms and they are pretty run down. Spoke with the Manager on 63/Cicero regarding backpack. I am disabled and only have access to a handicapped scooter so I only have room to carry what will fit in my backpack and two small bags to fit into the rear basket. Plus, I must ride over 5 miles round trip. Upon entering Lots4Less I was told that I couldn't being in my backpack. I told the young man that he could look inside before and after but he refused. I mentioned that WOMEN can bring in HUGE PURSES. When I related that to the Manager she said it was a no bag policy. I offered to bring in a purse to carry items and she told that I wasn't allowed since I'm a MAN. Sounds like SEXISM and DISABLED DISCRIMINATION. Hidden GEM! Can't believe more people don't know about this place. For starters what they carry changes all the time week to week. So it's not some place you're going to go to looking for something very specific unless you're specifically looking for toiletries or snacks etc. Last year I purchased 2 beautiful dressers for $150 each, they were selling the EXACT same dresser still in stock online at Macy's for $600 a piece! Those are the kind of deals you can get here. Their inventory changes all the time but if you're shopping it never hurts to just drop in and take a look around. They always have random handy things that are dirt cheap. Staff was incredibly nice!!! When I bought the two dressers last year they actually only had one dresser in the store that was available and I asked if they had another one sitting in their warehouse. The guy personally called their other warehouse where they keep all their stock and checked if they had another one for me and had it delivered to the store and reserved it for me! AMAZING Service!!! This year they had an insanely large inventory of Essie nail polishes for only $1.50 each! Insane because those normally cost around $8 a bottle. The year previous they had a bunch of loreal polish for around the same price. I come here weekly/biweekly to see what they have in stock because when they have something good it tends to go fast so. Also if you're a member monthly they do 20% off all inventory. Since it's already so cheap it's impossible to beat a deal like that! My family has been coming here for years and as an adult I always come here and have come to love this place!!! There should be a sign that says "come on down and rip me off." I have resisted sharing this gem for quite some time. In these tough times I must share. I first entered Continental sales when I was about 7. It seemed odd, smelled odd and the people there seemed like toothless street urchins. When I asked my father " why is this place cheaper than da Jewels?" In his deep South side accent he replied, "when ders a fire or a train flips over day bring da stuff here." True enough pops. The parking lot is full of massive pot holes, you may twist your ankle, you may get splashed by a car, and no one really parks squared off. To avoid these hassles pull in at the south end of the lot. There is no regular inventory, so a little luck can go a long way. I will spare you the details of some things I have sold on e-bay from here. Today I bought an Indian curry, three for a dollar, I am eating it right now and it is better than three Indian restaurants I can think of. They have three different flavors. I bought an organic whole grain cereal for .99. And some pretty stellar modeling kits for my boy, they were 1.99. Like I say the inventory is a mystery, I went there for toilet paper and all they had was single play cardboardy individual pcs. Extra Virgin olive oil $3.99 for a litre there are 12 different brands, two of which are excellent. DOLLAR BUSTER FRIDAY. (everything 99 cents goes to 77 cents). NO TAX TUESDAY. (self-explanatory). There is a lot of junk here, but sometimes you will find what you need (ex: inexpensive floor mats for your car, rope, misc. items). Good for buying outdated puzzles/activity books/stickers and cheap school supplies (by which i mean of ...okay... quality). My mom won't take me here anymore because she knows we leave with a lot of junk we don't need just because it is so cheap. The food is often expired (I once saw a pack of brownies in the clearance section that were almost a year overdue) so be careful when looking in that section. read more

This is a cool place to find some great items at discounted prices! I frequent this shop often and I am always surprised with what I find here. Some great items that would cost way more at other stores can be found here. Some are name brand and some are not, but no matter what just stop in you never know what you might find. You never know what you're going to find here. I mean you literally have no clue, but you can be sure that you will find something interesting. While wandering down the aisles a few months ago, my wife and I found good quality dive fins for an unbelievable price. We had JUST ordered a pair of the same fins for her to try snorkeling during our upcoming vacation and they cost more than three times as much. You know I was fuming when I saw these at the store. I grabbed a pair for myself and they are the best fins I have owned. There are always food items on sale, some of which come from hoity-toity places like Whole Foods, but have expired or are close to expiring. There are also great household goods and sometimes decent clothes for great bargains. Now, just like at the Dollar Tree, you have to understand that the entire store is not full of these gems. In fact, many of their items are generic and over priced. I'm sure they make money on these items as well because many people shop there thinking everything is on sale for a fraction of the price they would pay elsewhere, and that is simply not the case. This is an interesting place to visit if you are in the area of Midway Airport & looking for super-cheap packaged foods, personal care items, or housewares. They sell merchandise that seems to have been unwanted or cast-off by bigger stores due to some sort of damage or irregular condition, there are labels such as "Irregular" or "Salvage" on much of the merchandise, some of the packaging is slightly to severely damaged, but the contents are still saleable (I guess) and prices are marked down in proportion to the condition of the merchandise. They also carry a few unusual/quirky things, I found a fun item that apparently had a previous life as a promotional hand-out for an intestinal medication, it was a coffee cup in the shape of a smiling human stomach, and it was quite the bargain at only 33 cents!! read more

I have visited this store on several occasions and always find the parking lot packed and people coming and going. They now have a new sign outside the building which advertises their specials. We went to the store during the Christmas season and during these tough economic times, it was bustling. There were toys, holiday items, food and beverages, household cleaners, household items, health and beauty products, auto products, etc. You never know what you will find but you will always come out with a cart full and the prices are so reasonable that your purchase did not made a big dent in your wallet. They have a mailing list and you can receive a flyer monthly and get coupons for extra 20% off your entire purchase! Not just on one item like in some other stores. They have monthly raffles too. There is always an employee on the floor to direct you and answer your questions. You don't get that in many big retailers today. But what striked me the most was that low income familes were able to purchase products for their families and the children were so excited to be able to leave the store with a toy, socks, a snack, etc. I never saw such happiness on a child's face. Save your time. It's not that great. I stopped in on my way from the airport and thought it was a regular grocery store. You can buy shampoo, soap and cleaning supplies for cheap, but I'd bypass on most of the food. I bought some rock hard granola bars, got a good deal on flat sodas and some aspirin that crumbles instantly as soon as you put in your mouth.
