Personally I don't have the patience or the butt for a pack mule train, and this allows you to see most of the highlighted nooks and crannies through this part of the Colorado River --- the North Rim, Zuni Point, Desert View, Dragon Head. The pilot will even circle around the landing where Thelma and Louise supposedly took their final drive. A pretty standard audio tape narration is given on headphones. The plane is light, so expect some turbulence throughout the flight. On the plus side, it's not as loud as a helicopter. The airport itself is just a few miles south of the southern entrance to the park just outside of Tusayan where most of the motor lodges and chain hotels are. I have to say that this may be your best photo opportunity to capture the majesty of the canyon, and try to catch the last flight at 5PM in order to get a better angle of the sun moving to the West.

We got to doc at one place to get out and do a little hike to learn more. They had water to refill your bottles and gave everyone a Gatorade on the ride back. Don't forget to take lunch or goodies, cause you can eat on the boat. Instead of taking the bus in from Page, we camped out right there and met them at the doc. So glad we ended up doing the rafting. We got to see so much without doing all the kayaking work.

First, it took a while to reach the campground from the main highway. Near the beach area, it can be very sandy. If you have a rental car, be careful to find a path with flattened sand unless you're driving a 4x4 jeep. Second, the view of Lone Rock was not impressive due to the lack of water. It used to be possible to kayak around Lone Rock (when it was surrounded by 20 to 50 feet of water). Unfortunately, without the lake water, the view of Lone Rock is meh (comparing the 2023 photos with snapshots from 2019 or 2021). The low water levels are the visible effect of climate change and diminished snowmelt from the mountains feeding into the Colorado River. I did not stay at the campground, so cannot speak to that experience. But if you're looking for a view of Lake Powell - I would drive over to the Wahweep Marina on the AZ side of the state border and take a sunset photo from the boat launch area there.

Camped here with a friend in early September 2020 and it blew our expectations out of the water…read more We were nervous about the first-come-first-serve camping policy and not being able to make a reservation, but there was plenty of room even when we arrived on a Saturday evening on a holiday weekend. We pulled up about an hour before sundown, found a place to park and set up our tent, and enjoyed the beach. There was a stunning sunset and sunrise. Everyone we met was very kind and helpful. The other campers answered questions and helped us find our way around. It seemed like most of them camp here regularly, which gave it a nice community feel. The only downside we found was that it was a little loud in the evening, especially from the ATV's zooming around. Since it was really dark at night, we were even afraid they'd accidentally run over us in our tent. The next morning there was a long line to use the public bathrooms and showers, which are located fairly far from the camping ground, so be sure to account for this if needed. Beware if you have a vehicle that's low to the ground due to the sandy roads. We drove a sedan slowly and didn't have any trouble. The only mistake we made was accidentally driving over a few big rocks at our camp spot, so be on the lookout for those off the "road" I would return and camp here again in a heartbeat.

Raylynn was sooo helpful she was quick to get us squeezed in, she was just so sweet and compassionate to our situation. She contacted Lees Ferry on the Fly and hooked us up with Dave Trimble. Dave was amazing, by far THE BEST boat captain, seriously the coolest and most informative person, he showed us where to camp, some guys prior to us forgot their beer and he dropped it off to them on our way out. He was the nicest and most down to earth person. This company seriously made our experience the most memorable! Thank you guys, without the both of you, we wouldn't have had one of the best camping trips

We really enjoyed Captain Elaine's narration and we learned so much. This tour is strictly a journey to the Glen Canyon Dam to get you up close and back. Most of the journey is in a no wake zone, that's why it takes 90 minutes. The canyon you travel through is beautiful and quiet. The boat is basic. The main level is enclosed and air conditioned and has comfortable seats. There is a restroom on board. They provide complimentary water and lemonade but I did not have any. The second/top level is open and standing only - no seats. While you can see everything from the first level, we enjoyed being on the top to really see all the views unobstructed. There isn't any shade on the top level so be sure to have sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Again, most of the trip is at no wake speed but there were a few spots where we went about 10 mph. It was sunny, no clouds, no wind and about 75 degrees during our 10:30 AM tour. You check in for the tour inside Lake Powell Resort. They take you down to the marina in extended golf carts. That was great because it would have been a long walk down and a very steep walk back. After the tour we enjoyed a coffee and pastry from the Wind Coffee Cafe.

For those hard of hearing, they wouldn't have been able to hear at all. A naturalist on deck explaining the history, sites, etc. would have been much more informative and interactive. How hard would it have been to have someone with a microphone pointing out sites and answering questions?? The scenery was lovely, but we were disappointed with the lack of narration. There wasn't much of it, and what was said couldn't be heard anyway.

But hey,…read morethis is a profile I use for reviews, and I can vouch for these tours being really unique and the pictures they posted being real and unaltered--the views really are that good. Alicia and Jalen know this land really well and are skilled at telling you what to look for and why it matters. On the drive out, they pointed out neighbors by name, and we stopped by to meet some local flocks of sheep and goats on the way out. I also learned about Navajo history--despite living in Flagstaff I'd never heard of The Bennett freeze, which kept this area underdeveloped (there's no running water or electrical grid once you're west of the highway). The views and hiking are also really unique. The South Rim is so crowded and developed that it's easy to lose sight of just how crazy it is for a long plateau to just give way to a gash in the earth--here it's the same dirt roads all the way to the rim, with only the looming North Rim of the distance alerting you to any presence. Then it's a vertical cliff you don't see anywhere in the National Park. Alicia and Jalen know the paths for sure footing, since there's no developed trail. And perhaps more importantly, the river is right there. At the South Rim, you might know it's there, but you only get occasional glimpses. Here, you can see what seems like a mile of it at a time, and even hear the rapids thousands of feet underneath you. All in all--if you think you know the Grand Canyon, this is an alternative perspective in every way you can imagine.

We really wanted to avoid the antelope canyon experience after hearing about the reviews upon research. We did the hiking tour. Jose took his time walking us through and telling us about the history of the Navajo tribe and surrounding areas. He also pointed out different characteristics of stone/rock we saw in the canyons. This is one of the slot canyon tours available near Page. It is a totally different experience…read morethan the Antelope canyon tours. This one is longer, a lot less crowded and more open in most places. Garret led us through and answered questions and told us about things. Really looked out for his clients. There are a couple of tight spots and a bunch of stairs at the end, but for the most part pretty doable. There's a fair amount of walking on sand, so be prepared for that. Antelope is deeper and I think a bit more dramatic, but they are pushing through thousands of people a day. For a similar experience with no crowd, you can come here.
