Brides Beware!
In early May, I posted in a local FB group looking for a hair/makeup artist for my upcoming wedding. My wedding is in September. I connected with a girl named Alix who goes by Contour Alkemy.
I was going to book her to do my makeup, my bridal party's makeup, and my mother-of-bride's makeup, as well as hair for myself and my groom. Not a small job, and I was, of course, eager to compensate and tip her generously for all this work. She said that was totally within her scope and it would be easy for her, so we booked a demo for June.
Morning of the demo, like 1-2 hours before she is supposed to show up, she cancels, saying she has the stomach flu. I understand how challenging it can be to run a small business, so I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. We rescheduled, but our schedules didn't line up until late July. We were supposed to have the rescheduled demo this morning.
We confirmed multiple times over FB messenger - I always had to reach out to her to confirm, she never contacted me despite having my contact info. I reached out last night one more time via text to confirm, and at 9 PM she cancels again! This time she claims that due to the Microsoft issue last week, her travel plans got rescheduled and now she can't make the appointment we booked.
You would think that someone who cares about their reputation as a business, and cares about the experience they give their clients, would have at least let me know when she found out about her flight being rescheduled and attempted to find a solution? No. She was just going to blow me off and leave me hanging today with no idea what was going on, if I hadn't texted her last night.
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I guess it's a good thing she showed me how unreliable and unprofessional she is now, before she got $$$ from me. I can't imagine paying someone for all that work only to have them flake on the day of the wedding
Learn from my mistakes: DO NOT WORK WITH CONTOUR ALKEMY! Unless you like paying people to flake on you and have horrible communication then try to blame the customer after they repeatedly fail to deliver, stay far away. You will be let down and left scrambling to find a replacement with less than 2 months before the big day.
Edit to add: Since I posted this, multiple people who must be her friends and family because they have screenshots of our text messages, have been in the comments of my review on FB and in my DM's, accusing me of lying/slander (obviously not true and I have screenshots and timestamps to verify everything I've said) and tell me "I'm the problem" and "I need to have more compassion" and "I'm trying to destroy this poor woman's single source of income", trying to pressure me to remove the review. That is really creepy and crazy, I shouldn't have to face retaliation for leaving a bad review when this was my experience. Especially when this woman has my personal info, including my home address.
Knowing that this is how she responds and weaponizes her friends/family to come after anyone who leaves a bad review, I now know I made the worst possible choice trying to work with her and trusting her with my personal info, let alone my wedding day. This is NOT how a professional business owner conducts themselves. Absolutely appalling lack of conduct. read more
